“alright, so, about how long ago did this all happen?”
“i don’t know. i was stuck in that place lion took us for a while and i don’t usually pay attention to the date. it doesn’t mean a lot to me. i’m going to guess a couple of days.”

“one stuff like this happens, theres gonna be hard truths sometimes that you just have to face. it doesnt help you one bit to ignore any of the possibilities.”
You open the can of soda and drink a bit.
“but. if they want something you got its likely that they a. are still here and b. kept their prisoners alive as bargaining chips. if they think they can take your queen theyll gladly let some pawns live. we can use that to our advantage. outmanoeuvre them.”
“it helps me keep it together,” you spit at her with a harsh look. Ugh, you’re starting to have second thoughts about asking her for help. But you guess she does seem to know what she’s talking about. You pull your knees up to your chest, hiding your face behind them.
“i hope you’re right.
“so what do you think we should do? looking for them isn’t working.”

You grin and straighten yourself out before floating over to the fridge and looking through it for food.
"so. did you consider the possibility that maybe the people who took your friends left in whatever freaky alien space ship they arrived on? what makes you certain that theyve stuck around? or even that theyve let your friends live…"
You settle on a can of soda and a cold slice of pizza, licking your lips in preparation for your humble but satisfying feast.
“oh yeah, that’s exactly what i wanted to hear. thanks davara.”
You huff, crossing your arms and looking away.
“... if you really want to know that’s exactly what i’m worried about. i mean... they were here in the first place for something completely unrelated to us, but it would have damaged the earth a lot so we tried to stop them. but now they want steven because they think he’s his-... uh, i think the closest word for it would be a human mom? so... they think he’s his mom, rose quartz. and now they want him because rose and jasper - that’s one of the gems who were trying to hurt the earth - led armies against each other millenia ago...
“is this making any sense? this is hard to explain to someone who doesn’t know a lot about gems.”

“damn. that sucks. but i can probably help. i was trained to find people. … not usually to save them, though.”
You chuckle nervously and look around. Shit, it was late. You sigh and float upwards, before flipping yourself upside down.
“i’m hungry.”
That sounds just a bit suspicious, but you decide not to comment on it. You’ll keep an eye out for any signs of trouble, but you trust them. They seem nice, even if they do look kind of weird.
“there are snacks in the fridge. i’d say we could get pizza or more fries, but i think those places are closed at night.”
You look up to see them hovering above you, to your confusion and amazement. You weren’t really expecting that, but you guess it’s just some sort of power they have. Some gems can fly, after all.

You look up at the person who just sat down next to you. She was shorter than you expected.
“… ruby? hey, what’s up…”
You yawn, sitting and stretching your arms up.
“damn… what time is it?”
“nothing. absolutely nothing. i’ve been looking for... ugh, i don’t even know how long! i’ve been everywhere, but they’re just... gone. i don’t know where they are...” You frown, resting your forehead in your palms.
... What time is it? You shrug.
“uhh... i don’t know.”
A quick look out the window and you have a fair idea - it’s pitch black outside.
“late.”

As your eyes open, you find yourself in a house. If you weren’t so used to waking up in strangers’ houses you’d probably be scared right now. You sit up and sigh, looking around. You hope it was Ruby who found you and not someone else.
Either way, you were hungry. You never got to eat your fries…
After many hours of fruitless searching through, well, everywhere on Earth you think they could possibly have gone, you finally resign and decide to return to the Temple empty handed. You guess you should check on Davara, anyway. You left her in Steven’s care, and as much as you trust him, you’re not sure how long you’ve been gone.
You head back to the warp pad, sending yourself back home. Looks like you were just in time, too - Davara seems to be waking up. A glance around the room reveals Steven has fallen asleep watching her, curled up with Lion with an empty packet on snacks by his side. You sigh, trudging over to the three of them to sit down just as Davara sits up.
“hey davara,” you grumble.

Using what little information you have and following the trail of temporal disturbances that blogging through the multiverse creatres, you manage to arrive about half an hour after Ruby sent her last message to you.
However, you appear in the middle of a small town, which you assume to be Beach City. With a sigh, you begin to look for where Ruby might be. You pause to wipe a bit of blood from your nose.
Time travelling without coordinates to focus on is stressful on your body.
After sending Steven inside with Lion, you’ve simply been sat outside on the balcony, clutching the blue blanket and sniffling. You decide after a while that Davara’s simply not coming and you’ll have to look for the others yourself. Where to begin, though? They could be literally anywhere - somewhere in the city, the Strawberry Battlefield, the Geode, the Sky Spire... Ugh, you have to look! You don’t want to resign to the fact that they’re gone. You don’t want to accept that they’re probably lightyears away right now. It’s not true. It can’t be true!
You don’t notice anything that’s going on around you. Your face is buried in the blanket and you’re too deep in thought to be paying any attention.
So what was that thing about Lion a while ago? Sorry, I was gone for a bit and missed it.
steven got hurt so lion took him to this.... place. i don’t know what it was. i think it used to be rose’s??? i wasn’t listening! but he took steven there and steven had my gem because they got me with some of their stupid homeworld technology and he picked it up so i didn’t get hurt but then when i got back out of my gem lion wouldn’t take us back!!! i finally did, but only to the pizza place so steven could eat. i had to go back to the temple on foot and then... uggghh.

i... i looked in the temple! they’re not there, and... it doesn’t look like anyone’s been there for a day or two, i think. i don’t know how long i was in my gem, but sapphire would be there at least!! wouldn’t she?? she wouldn’t go on a mission without me! she’d wait for me to get back, wouldn’t she???
