i’ve had a pretty solid gaster theory (at least imo) in my head for a while and now im writing a legitimate post about it so here goes. gonna try to keep it relatively short
i firmly believe gaster is a characterization, representation, or generally a character playing off of the concept of easter eggs in video games. this is based off the role he plays in the narratives of both undertale and deltarune, and the egg theming going on with him.
his head is egg shaped, though upside down, and the gashes up and down his face could be interpreted as cracks. this means he could be a LITERAL egghead, which makes a lot of sense considering his former position as an incredible royal scientist. let’s also not forget the man behind the tree who gives you an egg of all things. and if you get that egg in chapter 1, chapter 2 will give you flavor text of an unidentified man “waving happily” at you when you check any of the cars in the traffic before going into the library.
his name is most likely a portmanteau of easter and ghastly. with that part you kinda have to take into account how toby just has really weird ways of naming his characters, like how asriel is literally just a portmanteau of asgore and toriel, and how toriel herself is named after tutorial.
pretty much every single thing relating to him can only be found A. outside of the game (or at least its main universe, e.g. survey program,) or B. off the story’s beaten path. you have to actively search for him. i think what this means is that he exists outside of the main story, and by that i mean the narratives taking place within their universes, so when frisk falls into the mountain, or when kris wakes up at the beginning of the actual game.
