okay so

you and evan have been official for about a month now

and you’ve met heidi many a time, given that evan prefers to hang out at his home, where he feels most comfortable

but your parents have been getting on you about meeting him

and it’s finally happening

it’s gonna be pretty lowkey, just a simple dinner

and your parents are pretty chill, so evan really doesn’t have much reason to worry

but oh boy, does he worry!!

his mom drops him off on her way to class, giving him a big kiss on the cheek with a hearty “good luck!!”

evan walks up to your door, holding a small casserole dish

(he convinced himself that he has to bring something or else your parents will hate him forever due to lack of manners)

you open the door when he knocks and outwardly coo at him

he looks adorable! his hair is nicely combed and gelled, he’s wearing a nice blue shirt with a tie (that he definitely borrowed from connor). his cheeks are flushed and he looks like he could bolt at any minute

you think it’s adorable, and give him a big kiss before pulling him into the house

evan only stutters a little when he meets your parents, offering the casserole dish (that he made himself!! with the help of a youtube video, of course) before shaking their hands

dinner is a quiet affair, and it goes really well!

your parents like evan a lot, and they can see how much he loves you

you hold his hand under the table the whole time, though, just to give him a small boost of courage when he needs it

by the end of the night, evan has unwittingly agreed to watch the next baseball game with your dad and (more willingly) to help your mom with her garden next week

he’s so relieved over how well it went that he doesn’t even protest when you kiss him on the porch before taking him home

okay so

it started when you were seven years old

you were being babysat by jared’s mom after school (your parents didn’t get home from work until late)

and after dinner, his mom surprised you with some ring pops as a treat

you got cherry and jared got blue raspberry

you were so happy!! until jared’s dog snatched it right out of your little hand and ate it right in front of you

you only got one lick :(

on the verge of tears, you sat on the couch, trying not to cry even though you were really upset

then jared gave a small sigh and held his uneaten ring pop in your face

“you can have it,” he said, as if it were some great injustice that he be nice to you

you tried to say no. “it’s yours though. and it’s a ring,” you said, as if that made any sense.

“… what?” jared asked. you rolled your eyes.

“people only give rings to each other when they wanna get married. if you give me a ring, you’re asking me to marry you.”

“fine then, i guess we’re getting married!” jared yelled (kind of… angrily?) and threw the ring pop at you. 

you barely caught it, but managed

and jared wasn’t even mad that you had one to eat and he didn’t

over the years, ring pops became something of a running joke to you two

if ever jared bought candies for the two of you, you always received ring pops

and you always put them on your ring finger

once you hit high school, the two of you would stage epic, dramatic fake proposals on valentine’s day, as you always bought each other ring pops

(it got to the point that no one even batted an eye anymore when they heard you yell “OF COURSE I’LL MARRY YOU, KLEINMAN!” in the halls)

but now, you’re all grown up

you and jared have been together since freshman year of college

and the future looms in front of you

you have a job offer in new york city, far away from the jobs you and jared both have now.

you want to take it, but you don’t want to leave him. and you’re afraid to ask him to move there with you

but you two are laying on the floor in the living room of your one bedroom apartment, talking about the pros and cons of you taking the job

one of your cons is that jared will be far away

“oh,” jared says at one point, in a tone that’s suppose to be casual but sounds totally rehearsed, “that reminds me.”

he sits up, digs into his pocket, and pulls out a cherry ring pop

he tosses it into your hands

you catch it, eyebrows raised

you guys don’t do this anymore except on valentine’s day, which is nine months away

he just shrugs, smiling a little

“i guess we’ll just have to get married so i can go with you”

jake is.... weirdly hard to write for, but sure!

okay so

jake.... doesn’t get why you like theatre so much

he’d rather watch an action movie than a play

and pretty much every sport or club in school is more fun to him than play rehearsal

but he’s quietly had a crush on you for a while

and he happens to notice your name on the audition sign-up right under christine’s

and he doesn’t even think before writing his own name

(he really didn’t mean to cause the entire Popular Group to sign up too, but it was a bit like a domino effect)

but jake is jake, so he works hard to be good at theatre just to impress you

but you can see right through him

finally, after he finally has the guts to ask you out, you tell him he doesn’t have to do theatre to be with you

“it’s enough if you just come see me in shows,” you say. “go do the clubs you actually want to do.”

so every day, jake waits for you to get out of rehearsal (model UN always gets out earlier)

and he drives you home

he learns to like showtunes enough to belt them with you in the car

(he quickly learns which parts are “yours” in all your favorite songs after you don’t speak to him for twenty minutes after he tries to sing evan’s part in disappear)

he’s in the first row at every one of your shows, and always brings you a bouquet

for your birthday, he buys you a ticket to a local touring production of your favorite show! and he actually goes with you (and maybe he actually likes it a little bit)

basically, he’s good to you and loves your theatre-antics, even if he doesn’t always get them

okay so

you’ve always been on the bigger side

but you’re self esteem has never been particularly low

you have good days, and you have bad days

but, you still struggle when it comes to showing skin

so when the whole #squipsquad decides to go to the water park one summer day, you do your best to bow out

but rich won’t have it

he wants you to come, texts you all night trying to convince you

you: i have summer hw i have to 

rich: so do it the next day

you: my mom needs help around the house

rich: tell her i’ll come help out on monday if she wants

you: idk…

finally, he wears you down and you agree to go

summer is already the worst bc you can’t wear long pants (you kind of loathe your thighs and hate for them to see the sun)

but you wear your longest pair of shorts and an oversized t shirt 

at the very last minute, you grab your swimsuit, but you know you won’t be getting in the water

all of your friends are so hype for the water park

and of course, chloe and brooke are wearing the cutest bikinis with see-through dresses over them

you envy their confidence

rich purposefully lays his towel on the chair next to yours, but is surprised when you don’t follow christine and jenna to the changing rooms

“oh, i’m not swimming”

“but it’s a water park, y/n”

you shrug him off, not wanting to admit why, and tell him to go catch up with the boys, who are about to lug a giant four-person tube up to the top of the waterslide

you lay out on your beach chair, pulling down your shorts to cover as much thigh as possible

out of the corner of your eye, you watch as rich pulls off his shirt (god that boy is toned)

then, to your surprise, he lays down on the chair

“aren’t you gonna go swim?” 

he shrugs

“not without you. this isn’t gonna be any fun without you, y/n”

you roll your eyes

“you wouldn’t even notice i wasn’t there”

rich is shocked to know you think that

“of course i would. i always notice when you’re not around,” he says so seriously

you don’t know what to say to that

your friends go on some rides before trying to convince you two to join them in the lazy river

you tell rich to go on, but he refuses to go without you

he insists he’ll have more fun on the chairs with you than in the water without you

(and to be fair, you guys have been talking and having a lot of fun. but it’s a hot day and a swim sounds so nice)

finally, finally, you give in

you grab your bag, and head to the changing rooms

when you exit, you still have your tshirt on, but your swimsuit is on underneath

you’re already showing way more of your legs than you really want, but mercifully no one comments on the shirt and you two head off to find your friends in the lazy river

rich sticks by your side the entire time

after a while, even you can tell he’s been flirting

and maybe that’s kinda nice

okay so

you didn’t go to school today

your mom made you stay home as soon as you got up, sniffling and coughing and whining about how your throat hurt

“but moooom i have a test today!”

she don’t care, go back to bed

and you do, and completely conk out

and by third hour, michael is getting worried

you aren’t answering any of his texts and you’re not in school

jeremy hasn’t heard from you either

so michael slips out the doors during passing time and calls you

but you, in your headcold infused dream, just sleepily decline the call without even realizing what was happening

michael frowns

you’ve never declined his call before

he’s ready to ditch school to go see what the heck is going on, but jeremy won’t let him

“dude. history test, remember?” ughhh

so michael is forced to wait until school gets out before he drives to your house

your mom answers the door and seems relieved to see him

“oh good, michael! you can keep an eye on y/n while i run to the store, right? with them being sick i haven’t been able to do any of my errands today”

she runs out the door, leaving michael alone in the house

until he finds you, snoring away, in your bed

honestly, you look hella rough

but he’s just happy to see you

and being the sweetie he is, he scours your kitchen for some canned chicken noodle soup and starts cooking it for you

(he knows that if you haven’t texted him back, you probably haven’t been awake long enough to eat anything all day)

the smell of the food is enough to draw you from your slumber

you trudge to the kitchen, dragging your comforter with you, expecting to see your mom cooking

you still feel like shit

but it’s michael standing at the stove, stirring the soup

he turns and grins at you, as if you don’t look sick af

(you do, but he’s just happy to see you)

and the whole time your mom’s gone, michael takes vv good care of you <3

there are lots of cuddles

(and of course, michael ends up sick two days later)

you two had been paired on a project at the beginning of the year and you’d kind of stuck around until you two were friends

and now it’s four months later and connor knows you like him as a person

and he’s conflicted

so does he risk that on the chance that he might get to date you??

originally, he says no, no it’s not worth potentially losing you

but then the two of you go out driving after he’s had a particularly bad fight with larry

he’s driving and you’re playing all of his favorite music on the radio

and you’re basically pulling out all the stops to make him feel better

you know him well enough now that you know how to make him smile

you have him laughing in no time

and it’s such a relief

he cannot believe how much you get him

and he just sort of looks at you and– oh

he kind of realizes how he’s in waaayy too deep

and it just sort of stumbles out

“do you wanna go out with me?”

you blink, surprised

and connor immediately keeps his eyes on the road, resolutely looking anywhere that is not you

he’s prepared for rejection

but you smile, slip your hand in his, pulling it up to your lips to kiss lightly

you two threw around a couple other names, but he kept coming back to stacy

specifically, stacy spelled without the e

(one day, you wrote out potential names to get a look of them and jared was very insistent that you do not spell her name stacey)

and then!! the day comes!

jared was so, so happy

and all seemed normal

for the first few months

but then, as soon as little stacy started sleeping more regularly and the two of you weren’t so tired all the time

it happened

it felt like it was the first time you and jared had actually been alone together since stacy was born

“stacy’s mom has got it going on, she’s all i want and i’ve waited for so long!”

he always insists on having his arm around your waist, just because

he wants to be that couple that makes out in the hallway, but you only allow handle-holding and cheek kisses in school

his response is always “not if i break up with you first!”
