Trust No One

When I was younger it used to baffle me why Scully always doubted and questioned the motives of whistleblowers but decades later the way sensitive information is handled has become more relevant than I ever would have imagined.

I actually love the way the show doesn’t necessarily pick a side on this one but they do show how misinformation can be used to manipulate people. Even Dreamland, Mulder’s informant is responsible for endangering multiple lives so he can expose an aircraft that he doesn’t understand and the question is, to what end? Is a government entitled to its secrets for national security, and what if that security is being abused by the wealthy to protect and even aid sex offenders? I work in the tech and a problem we’re having is that certain AI companies are using models to find previously unknown exploits and then they publish their findings to promote their company so every week we have an emergency patch that’s needed for something rather. So basically they’re telling everyone how to exploit system vulnerabilities and creating huge security risks.

I don’t know where i stand right now either. I would like people to be able to trust their safety while working undercover and don’t agree with their covers being blown- but it’s a much bigger issue than that.

on the other hand how many times so the Gunmen come to the rescue with information hacked from Government sources.

It’s been 30years and I do love how the show makes me think.
