I waited SO long for today's episode of wtdsik, and MAN I was not disappointed! I felt the love from the music writers and animators being poured into this episode. I expect minimal movement, lots of talking over the actual performance, and the pacing to plow right through to get us straight to the scoring. But that wasn't the case AT ALL!
First of all, the animation! I'm pretty sure they had a little bit of 2D CGI going on but I'm not even sure how much because it all actually looked incredible! And Jazz!! HOLY SHIT JAZZ! Get it! I'm a little sad we didn't get more of Azz but what we got of Jazz was enough to make up for it in my opinion. And Eliza! The way they made her hair flow and bounce and how that camera moved all around her in such a cinematic way was straight dopamine to my brain! She's so goddamn lovely and they did her justice!! GOD!! And Purson!!!! His smiles and his little moment with Iruma at the end!!! Perfection! I literally cried!
As you can see, I'm struggling to find the right words for anything just because I was so awestruck at how well it was done!
I also loved watching this as a former theater/show choir kid. The cheers and energy for a highschool performance like this was recreated so perfectly, I was having flashbacks. I genuinely felt like I was back on that stage again. From the concerned chatter of the audience during the pre-performance to reverb of the voices while they sang and spoke on stage. All of it was so nostalgic. On top of that, the music and blocking ACTUALLY felt first place worthy. They didn't pull that shit where they gave us excellent performances by the other classes and then a half assed performance by the main group and acted like it was better. No, this was 100% the BEST! God, I loved it! This was BY FAR the BEST episode yet!
I can't wait to see how they do the next arc! Give me this kind of quality morning forward.
unpopular opinion or maybe not but i did not care about Yuki whatsoever beyond the effect his death had on Mafuyu. Everyone who ships them and is still hanging onto their relationship completely missed the point of the show

Sousukes scarf having Kou's colour palette is insanely important to me
Because when he died a second time, it almost seems as if their relationship was severed for good. His cameras left behind, but his scarfs gone.
And when we do see him again, it isn't the sousuke mitsuba who lived and died as a human. He's got the same face, the same voice, an almost identical personality.
But his scarf is different
This iteration of mitsuba is bound by his supernatural nature, which is something that could never make him what sousuke was.
A human.
Instead of a scarf with the colours of his first love tying them together, it's the colour of red. The colour of the blood of the various deaths that happen all around him. A noose whose little glass triangles of the supernaturals he's had to kill and eat hangs around his neck
But despite how different mitsubas circumstances are to his human counterparts, hes still close to Kou.
Perhaps even closer than he was originally meant to be
And even a new timeline, even death...

this whole chapter is still THEEEE most insane mitsukou thing in the whole manga to me like??? explicitly stating that mitsuba is one of kou's deepest desires???? "show me whatever you think i want" and then it's MITSUBA???? i know i'm beating a dead horse here but like wow. this is insane. u cannot get more obvious than this genuinely a kiss scene would be less blatant
and not only is it mitsuba. but it's mitsuba who misses kou so much he broke the rules of space to come and see him. kou is so so traumatized by losing him and his DEEPEST DESIRE is for mitsuba to come and see him anyway just so he can know that he's ok. HE MISSES HIM SO BAD
i don't even have words for how insane this is. the desire for mitsuba to rely solely on him and to not only miss him but NEED him. ohhh kou if only you knew how similar you and hanako were you would be so mad about it. plus. kou secretly desiring to die if it means that he can fulfill mitsuba's wishes. so possessive that he would quite literally rather die than let tsukasa be the one to grant his wish and would accept being a supernatural forever just so mitsuba would have someone else to rely on.
