We Keep Us Safe
The Socialist Rifle Association is a not-for-profit organization, incorporated in Wichita Kansas and filing as a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization federally. We are an organization dedicated to educating on and advocating for all aspects of self and community defense. Article Two of our Bylaws states our purpose clearly:
...We recognize all aspects of self and community defense to include (but not limited to) topics such as firearms, disaster relief, medicine, logistics, agriculture, general survival skills, and other pursuits necessary to unify and strengthen communities against the hardships of life under capitalism. We seek, advocate for, and advance an inclusive, safe, and healthy firearms culture in America to combat the toxic, right-wing, and exclusionary firearm culture in place today. We work to create a platform, environment, and community of members and like-minded individuals that are free of reactionary influences and prejudices, such as racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and other discriminatory ideologies. We maintain the necessity of and work towards the implementation of an anti-capitalist platform for protecting and promoting the inherent human right to defend oneself and one’s community.
The Republican Party’s Neglect of the American People
A functioning democracy depends on elected officials who prioritize the well-being, safety, and prosperity of the people they serve. However, in recent years, the Republican Party — particularly at the federal level — has demonstrated a troubling pattern of behavior that suggests it is more interested in protecting corporate interests, promoting culture wars, and clinging to power than actually addressing the needs of everyday Americans. Whether it’s healthcare, economic inequality, gun violence, or environmental safety, many Republican leaders have repeatedly blocked, dismissed, or undermined legislation and initiatives that would improve the lives of millions. This paper argues that the Republican Party has increasingly turned its back on the American people in favor of serving the wealthy elite, special interests, and a narrow ideological agenda.
I. Healthcare: Profit Over People
One of the clearest examples of the Republican Party’s disregard for public well-being is its ongoing effort to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without offering a meaningful replacement. Since its passage in 2010, Republicans have voted dozens of times to repeal or gut the ACA — a law that has provided health insurance to over 20 million Americans. Despite the popularity of provisions such as coverage for pre-existing conditions, Medicaid expansion, and young adults staying on their parents’ plans, Republican lawmakers have prioritized ideology and private insurance profits over public health.
Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, several Republican governors and lawmakers resisted mask mandates, vaccine requirements, and federal relief efforts, often spreading misinformation that led to preventable illness and death. The refusal to take public health seriously — especially in the name of “freedom” — has cost lives and deepened public mistrust in government institutions.
II. Gun Violence: Ignoring a National Crisis
While mass shootings continue to plague American communities, the Republican Party has consistently blocked common-sense gun reforms supported by the majority of Americans. Despite public support for universal background checks, red flag laws, and assault weapon bans, Republican lawmakers frequently oppose such measures, often citing Second Amendment absolutism and backing from the National Rifle Association (NRA).
This refusal to act in the face of overwhelming tragedy — including the murder of children in schools — shows a disregard for public safety. Republican leaders often offer “thoughts and prayers” while refusing to engage with real policy solutions that could save lives. In prioritizing gun rights over human lives, they have abandoned their duty to protect the American people.
III. Economic Inequality and Corporate Favoritism
Republican economic policy is heavily tilted toward the wealthy and large corporations. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, championed by the GOP, delivered massive tax breaks to the richest Americans and multinational companies while offering only minimal, temporary relief to working- and middle-class families. The promise that these tax cuts would “trickle down” to workers through increased wages and job creation has proven false in practice, with corporations instead using the windfall for stock buybacks and executive bonuses.
Meanwhile, Republicans have opposed raising the federal minimum wage, expanding union rights, and increasing access to affordable childcare. These are all policies that could help working families, yet the GOP frames them as “socialist” or “job-killing” despite evidence to the contrary.
IV. Climate and Environmental Neglect
The Republican Party has long resisted efforts to address the growing climate crisis, often dismissing scientific consensus and rolling back environmental protections. Under Republican leadership, the U.S. has seen the weakening of clean air and water regulations, withdrawal from international climate agreements, and continued support for the fossil fuel industry.
This environmental negligence disproportionately harms poor and working-class communities who suffer from pollution, natural disasters, and health issues tied to climate change. Yet, Republicans continue to side with oil and gas lobbyists rather than investing in renewable energy and green jobs that could protect the environment and strengthen the economy.
V. Undermining Democracy and Public Trust
Rather than adapting to the changing will of the people, many Republicans have embraced tactics aimed at weakening democracy itself. This includes widespread efforts to suppress voting rights — particularly targeting communities of color — through voter ID laws, gerrymandering, and restrictions on mail-in ballots. After the 2020 election, many Republican officials supported baseless conspiracy theories about voter fraud, undermining public faith in the electoral system and fueling the January 6th insurrection.
A party that puts its own power above democratic norms and the peaceful transfer of power cannot claim to care about the American people. These anti-democratic actions represent a grave threat to the very foundation of the country.
The Republican Party, once known for values such as limited government and personal responsibility, has become a political force that often neglects the real needs of the American people. From opposing health care access and economic fairness to ignoring gun violence and climate change, the GOP’s priorities reveal a party more committed to serving the wealthy, appeasing corporate donors, and preserving power than improving the lives of everyday Americans. A true government of the people must center the health, safety, and prosperity of all its citizens — not just a select few.

I always get frustrated when people talk about right wing militant gun clubs in the US like they are an existential threat to our democracy (!!). Like it’s popular rhetoric among leftists here to compare this fascist scene to groups like the John Brown Gun Club or the Socialist Rifle Association, and conclude that “the left is hopeless” 🤷♀️
I hope that the present situation in LA can demonstrate just how silly this fear is; the biggest fascist gangs in the US are our military and law enforcement agencies, and at worst these independent groups are pre-training for their integration into this already existing structure. This is by no means to say that we shouldn’t be scared—but our fear must be set in the proper direction.
Gained a lot of followers in the past week, so to be clear: Arm the left, arm Black communities, arm trans+ communities. I own a gun - you don't have to, but you shouldn't dismiss the leftists that do as 'reactionary'. Unspeakable violence is done onto our communities daily and the people who want you dead all have guns.

And once more, regardless of how you feel about guns after reading through these recommendations, I highly encourage you to look into local self-defense and deescalation training as well as local community mutual aid groups or even just online peer support groups if you can't find anything local and don't have the ability to build something local. Things in the US will not be getting better for the working class, for Black and brown communities, or for queer people anytime soon under this government.

Religion in Star Wars
Just so we're clear: The Jedi are based, per both their practices and in-universe beliefs, on a mix of Buddist/Taoist views on destiny, enlightenment, morality, and meditation/emotional regulation. They have a small amount of the New Age/Wiccan/Neopagan views on everyone being 'one' in spirit that got mixed into Western understanding of those religions when those religions got popular in America during the 1960s countercultural movement when George Lucas first encountered them. if you are writing them as colonizing or Christian/catholic coded, you fundamentally misunderstand what they are, and you have limited/no religious literacy. The Sith are a death cult based on, in order of prominence in their actual, in-universe beliefs, the Volk-Cult of the Nazi party, the bastardized "imperial" shintoism that no shintoist acknowledges as legitimate and was only ever adopted by the Japanese Empire between 1910-1945, Neitzhean post-theist nihilism, and (if you squint) the Calvinist "elect" theology that Lucas wrote star wars as a rebellion against in the backdrop of American counterculture and its conservative backlash. If you write the Sith as a pro-queer, feminist, oppressed minority faith, you are fundamentally misunderstanding what they are, you have no religious literacy, and you should be embarrassed. Lookin' at you, Leslie Headland. Also at the fandom
I really don't mean to harp on it, but the line, "My mother once told me she would've named me Laura," is so insane. It's 2024 and I'm listening to Laura Jane Grace but simultaneously it's 2007 and she's recording The Ocean and she's not Laura Jane Grace yet. And I know that she will be, but she doesn't. She can't, because on this recording it's forever 2007 and she's forever expressing a want she doesn't know if she'll ever get.
none of this should’ve ever been on social media, but it’s out there and everyone has some kind of fucking opinion, so I figure I might as well share mine:
some of y’all were way too prepared to turn on a trans woman before more information came out. it’s nice that y’all were using the correct pronouns but it’s still transmisogyny.
god does bless your transexual heart. if you even care.
Everyone complaining about Laura Jane Grace’s performance at the Bernie rally is stupid but ESPECIALLY people claiming they “used to be fans”. Against me’s music has always been political and provocative. What did you think “baby, I’m an anarchist” was about???? Lmao.
Oh boy! So excited for yet another public crucifixion of a trans woman based on allegations without evidence and blatantly untrue claims 😐
Im coming ☝️ Europe is not so far away
