Code name: Deacon.

I imagine, originally, people would have asked him to explain why he chose that codename, out of any that he could have picked. And he would have had a thousand and one bullshit answers, relating but not limited to: churches, religion, a higher order, Doing The Right Thing (aka God’s work), his real name starting with D and he’s actually a con-man, etc. Maybe he even launches into a very detailed explanation about the game of chess and gets really really involved about strategy and winning moves before going ‘wait, shit, that’s a bishop. I fucked up. Can I get a new codename?’.

But ‘deacon’ is also a verb, not a noun. When you have a box of apples you’re trying to sell, you turn them around to hide the bad bits, the bruises, the discolourations, so that the apples are pretty and perfect and people buy them without question. When you turn the apples over to hide their imperfections, you’re deaconing them. 

Deacon hides his imperfections behind lies and surgery and jokes and an untouchable persona. He deacons himself.

Hi, I'm an artist who has been posting all of my backlogged Deacon J. Railroad drawings lately, and I have a proposal. I've never done anything like this before, so this is subject to interest, but I ask you, Deacon nation, would you participate in a theme week centered around Deacon? Specifically, I would like to see some more kisses, and any ship goes; other companions, soles, self-inserts, ocs, cross-game/canon, etc. I'm thinking some time mid-September. Is that enough time?
