unfolding cubic surfaces - black and white*

this is something i had in mind since this year started (if my memory serves me correctly).

the squares/tiles/surfaces are generated 100% (pseudo-)randomly within a tiny set of rules. the process of making the generated animation “loopable” was quite complicated. created with Processing.

i’m not sure if (77, 77, 77) was the best choice for the background color. edit: changed the background to a more acceptable tone.

*obviously, the colors are not black and white. the colors of the “tiles” aren’t even a shade of gray!
