her attention quickly turns back to sangwoo, offering him a smile smile, trying to keep her face as solemn as she could given the situation she was in. she didn’t like being left alone in a dark room. as she recalled, she was in no way afraid of the dark but there was something about the situation that scared her for some reason. “it’s okay. i’ll be okay.” before she could add more, he was already making his way towards her, making her glance at the led lights attached to the wall, indicating the time that they have left. at his question, she had pursed her lips in acknowledgement that she had heard it. “i’m not. sorry, i was being selfish. you can look for clues there if you like.” she didn’t want to be alone at one side of the room but they’d be able to gather more clues that way. “sorry i made you worry.”

“There’s nothing to be sorry for, it’s okay.” He gave her quick, tight-lipped smile before crouching down on the floor. He picked up one of the magazines and ran his finger along the outer edge of the pages to feel if something had been stuck inside, while he listened to Dayoung talk. He let out a sigh then looked up at her, and spoke as gently as he could, though there was a hint of exasperation that managed to get through despite his efforts. He understood she was scared of being left alone there, but it irked him a bit to be told to leave again when he just came back and they didn’t have a lot of time on their hands. “It’s okay. Let’s look for clues here together. There’s a pile of magazines here that need looking through, after all. Come on,” he urged her.

(’ grins ) i’d experience the same problem too if i was in your shoes. you, we, sleep a little too late. even though i have morning classes, i think my body clock had adjusted well with my early classes already so it’s not a problem. (’ takes a hold of your hand ) oh you. should i make it a habit to send you photos of me after your classes? would that help? (’ grins teasingly ) you know i have no problem with going to your place. i feel bad when you drop over at mine because it’s a really long way from my place to yours… i think that’s why you’re tired too. the travel’s far. (’ nods some, smiling as she gently ruffles your hair ) mm, alright. we can grab a bite later, maybe i can cook up something earlier. did you want anything specific?

{`a faint frown appears on his face, showing both confusion and concern} really? how do you get used to it, though? and... how many hours of sleep do you actually get then? {`smiles lazily at you then laughs a little} that would be nice, more than enough to drive exhaustion away. heh, will you really do that, hm? {`shifts in the sofa, then lies down and places his head on your lap, looking up at you} and mine is a long way from yours, too. {`shakes his head} i’m pretty sure it’s the waking up early part that’s tiring me out, not going here, don’t worry. {`reaches up to cup your cheek} hm, nothing specific in mind, really. i’ll be happy with cup noodles, to be honest. do you want anything? maybe we can call for delivery instead?

(’ turns to look at you, brushing some of your hair out of your forehead, resting her head against yours ) the commute is quite long. i feel bad that you come all the way here just to see me even if you’re tired from classes. maybe i should just meet you halfway all the time, i don’t want you feeling anymore tired. (’ frowns a little before inching a bit away to look at you, smiling not too long after ) feel free to. do you want me to make get you some tea first? or coffee before you lie down?

{`laughs} actually... yes, it’s the waking up that’s the problem. i’m really not used to it. it’s like my body clock belongs to the other side of the world. if i were, say, in europe, i’d be an early bird. {`leans his head against your hand as you brush the hair away} oh, don’t worry about it. seeing you is the best way to rid myself of exhaustion. what magic are you doing for that to happen, huh? {`nudges your side lightly} staying here in your apartment is fine, too. we can’t sit lazily like this in a cafe. thank you for the thought, though. {`inches back a little as well and shakes his head, smiling a little} thank you, but no. let’s eat something in a bit, though? i just want to lie down for a bit, heh.

she felt a bit embarrassed over the fact that she had not used a lot of words in her conversations with him earlier. dylan always has a lot to say, especially to sangwoo of all people and her mind was a mess earlier, trying to talk to sangwoo over the phone and assisting people in along with their pets. with a sigh and a small smile, she was thankful that he had understood the situation. “i was surprised you called but i really can’t not answer the phone when i say your name there. i was supposed to text you that i’m busy but i was holding a pup and i assumed it’ll be better if i told you personally. i got carried away.” she pauses, taking the time to hold the phone properly. “mm, i am free after this. we can meet up if you’re free.”

“You can’t not answer my call... my name...?” He furrowed his brows as he threw his blankets off and got up from bed. Perhaps, remnants of sleep were still clouding his mind, and he thought he could stand up and stretch so he could understand what she was saying better. The crease on his forehead deepened as he continued to listen to her. “Wait, you’re holding a pup, as in now? Oh, wait... Ah, I see. I appreciate that you wanted to tell me personally, heh, I really do.” He paused, before his tone turned regretful. “I should have realized you were busy, really.” He then threw a glance at the clock on the wall. “I’m free, actually! If I start getting ready now, I can be there in an hour and half. That sound good?”

the surprise, she thought, was delightful but as soon as they were both put in a room with only each other and a flash light or some infrared light that makes you see the clues you have to find. now that they were a couple of minutes in, dayoung felt a bit restless, especially when it’s cold. “sangwoo, please, don’t.” she whispers but he was already on one side of the room and she was left to stand right at the middle. with a defeated sigh, she went to the opposite of him, dreading the situation he was away already. it sucked when she was easily scared of things.

“What?” A small frown appeared on his features, not because Dayoung didn’t want to be left alone, but because she didn’t seem to be enjoying the surprise at all, when he was almost a hundred percent sure that she would. “Okay, let’s find the clue together! Two pairs of eyes eyes are better than one, even when looking at the same spot!” he said in the best encouraging tone he could come up with. He turned away from where he was going and walked over towards Dayoung so he could join her. “But ah, could you tell me what’s making you feel afraid? While we look through these magazines of course,” he said, gazing down at a pile of magazines he felt could contain a clue.

ah, i do remember you saying that your schedules today are earlier than usual. (’ hums softly and takes one of your hands with hers ) i’m happy that somehow are schedules aren’t clashing anymore. i get to see more of you but considering how busy we both are, that still rarely happens. (’ raises her head and smiles softly ) mm, coconut water helps. you don’t have to buy right away though, unless you really feel dehydrated for some reason. i can go buy for you.

{`sighs and leans his head on your shoulder again, this time more slouched than he was earlier} mhm, me, too. now i don’t have to worry about making you stay up too late. {`chuckles softly} i wish there was like an express train from hapjeong to here so we can see each other more often. the commute is quite a problem, too. {`blows out some air, tilts his head a little} mhm, i can get a bottle on my way home. for now, can i lie down on your lap? that will probably be just as good as coconut water, if not better.
