Supergirl friends. Recent interactors, anons... Thank you everybody, but I believe Brie Larson has the words I'm trying to say.
"When we get caught up in the minutiae of things, the details that make us all different... I think there's two ways of seeing that. One way is to see the texture of that person, the characteristics that make them unique... and then there is the opportunity to go to war with them and to say ... that that person is different from me, so let's battle" -- Mahershela Ali
I choose to put that aside and to love all, and that includes those who choose to battle. I choose love.
How can we forget what it's doing?
How can we forget what the Sanvers storyline is doing for the LGBTQ folks out there? How can we dismiss the lives that are being saved? From the thoughts of suicide, from feeling that they canât belong somewhere? From finally knowing who theyâre meant to be? From finally being loved as their own person?
How dare you negate that? Put that hate aside and just see the bigger picture here.
Leave the actors alone.
This video is relevant more than ever. It is about hope. I have hope that we can come together and show that we are powerful.
I hope you can hear me. We have been attacked, mothers and fathers, friends and neighbors, children, everyone, suddenly stopped by a force of evil as great as this world has ever known.
Your attacker has sought to take your free will, your individuality, your spirit, everything that makes you who you are.
When facing an attack like this, itâs easy to feel hopeless. We retreat, we lose our strength, lose ourselves.
I know. I lost everything when I was young. When I first landed on this planet, I was sad and alone, but I found out that there is so much love in this world, out there for the taking. And you, the people of National City, you helped me. You let me be who Iâm meant to be. You gave me back to myself. You made me stronger than I ever thought possible. And I love you for that.
Now, in each and every one of you, there is a light, a spirit, that cannot be snuffed out, that wonât give up. I need your help again. I need you to hope. Hope that you will remember that you can all be heroes. Hope that when faced with an enemy determined to destroy your spirit, you will fight back and thrive. Hope that those who once may have shunned you will in a moment of crisis come to your aid. Hope that you will see again the faces of those you love, and perhaps even those you lost.

Producer says a character will be Latina on the tv show. Tv show hires someone who is not Latina. How is this ok? allowing racial discourse to ensue and result in Latinas feeling marginalized, tricked, and shut down isnt ok either but stay stanning.
Firstly, Iâm not cool enough to know what Stanning is..
Film hires an actor that should be a tibetan character. hired an actor that should be Japanese. *let me rephrase this*. In the establishing canon, these characters are of Tibetan and Japanese descent. They chose to hire who they wanted, and that's that.
With these two, the actors are A list. They can choose what they want, and mostly get it.
With Television, itâs a different story. I canât just go waltzing in to Frequency and say.. give me the lead role, Iâm female and I'm represented. If I look the role, but canât act OF COURSE theyâre not going to hire me. (I've played all kinds of Asians. From Korean to Japanese to Mongolian to Tibetan. Am I taking away from performers that are representative of those groups? No.. because they simply could not find any). Thatâs the fact here.
I see the casting lines when Iâm on the soundstages as a crew member, and there are tons of ethnicity happening. Do I know whatâs on the sheet? No.. just a bunch of guys in suits. Thatâs all I see.. a bunch of guys in suits.
Donât think that I donât know, but Hollywood is not going to change overnight.
We do not know Maggieâs background, and this whole blame the actor this isnât cool. Floriana did nothing wrong.
In the end, I choose to enjoy or stay away from those projects.
Edited to add :Donât invalidate the work that has been done so far for the LGBTQ folks, by continuing throwing this at Floriana.. it negates this. So please stop.
was the interview with an executive producer stating Maggie would be Latina also not proof enough? Please educate me as a Latina on what counts as representation for me or just keep selectively publishing things that support your opinions.
Iâm not denying or selectively publishing things.
Never did I deny Kriesbergâs words in my posts. If you are also in the industry that you say you are, then you should know the kind of changes that people in Hollywood all the time.
Much like Death Note, when it releases it will have been washed so white, my anime loving sister wonât touch it at all.
I know that representation matters, and while I identify with my asianness second it still makes me cringe to see all the washing that happens in the industry. It IS slowly changing, but it is filled with stereotypes. Which is why I wonât watch these movies or certain tv series like FOTB. I'm not going to tell you what represents as representation for you, because only you know. I'm simply glad that Asian actors of all kind are getting work in Hollywood.
Maggie is non-white, that is TV Series canon now. Not in the comics where she is Caucasian.
Fact is we donât know about Maggie in this canon, and we wonât know fully until we get a backstory. They didnât have to choose the actress, but THEY CHOSE FLORIANA. She didnât take anything away from anybody.
kreisberg said Maggie was Latina. They changed the line for the show but she played multiple Latinas after she started looking darker ew(.)com/article/2016/09/09/supergirl-season-2-spoilers
Yes and no Iâm not denying Kriesberg said that. If you do you have some experience in the industry like it sounds, then you should know that character descriptions change, and this article came out before season 2 began airing.
Also by the time the article got printed, they wouldâve been barely into shooting episode 3. Letâs say maximum a week before for EW to edit and all that jazz, then prep would have begun for the episode.
You donât know who they saw for Maggie Sawyer, I donât know who they saw for Maggie Sawyer. Script rewrites happen..
For all we know, Maggie was adopted. Do adopted foreign children consider themselves as their perceived identity than where they grew up in? â thatâs another essay worthy piece.

Maggie Sawyerâs Head Tiltâ˘: An Analysis
(Hang in there kiddos, this one gets lengthy!)
We have all swooned over the notorious Maggie âHead Tiltâ Sawyer but what does the head tilt actually mean in terms of body language? Well according to non-verbal experts,Â
Tilting the head can mean many things in different scenarios. The biggest thing, in a nutshell, is that head tilting is a sign of showing interest in a person and/or what a person is saying. Itâs a submissive gesture that is commonly used by women when theyâre in the company of someone they like or are simply interested in the ongoing conversation.Â
Context is also very important when trying to decipher someoneâs head tilt. Other than showing interest, head tilting also can indicate:
â A sympathetic gesture as if asking âAre you okay?â â A sign of evaluating/assessingâ usually indicated by a head tilt with a quick glance to the side â A sign of curiosityâwhen the head tilt is pushed forward as a sign of âtrying to see from a different angleâ â A means of flirtingâespecially when accompanied by a half smirk and side glance â A sign of disbelief or suspicionâwhen the head tilt is displayed upward, as a defensive motion of pulling back, sometimes accompanied with an eyebrow raise
Most importantly, head tilting is shown as a sign of vulnerability:
âBy tilting the head to the side, the person is exposing to you a vulnerable part of their body- the neck. Many canines including dogs lie down and expose their necks while confronting a more dominant canine to signal âdefeatâ, ending the fight without any physical aggression or bloodshed. When someone tilts their head in your presence, theyâre non-verbally telling you, âI trust you not to harm meâ. Interestingly, if you tilt your head while speaking, the listener will trust your words more. This is why politicians and people at other top leadership positions that require the support of people tilt their heads frequently while addressing the masses.â
So now that we have the background knowledge of the Head Tiltâ˘, letâs see some of my favorite examples of Maggieâs head tilts and what they mean in context.Â

Identity
Is what you feel you are, not by what you are perceived to be. I identify with being Canadian first, and Cantonese second. If I get shamed by placing my parents heritage second, then so be it. It doesn't bother me, nor do I dismiss that part of me. I am a proud Canadian, and I love being so.
Anybody else?
if you're in the industry you can also log on your indb pro and see sources for claims and edits...
Yes and I do check. This is just merely a part of the hiring tool. And many moons ago I have altered other peoples credits, and little bits in there trivia and what not with no issue.
Hence anybody, with a pro account or not, can easily edit anybody's IMDb profile. Plus that screenshot you gave me of her profile sounds like it was written by 15-year-old.
Sorry but you have to know while IMDb can be edited by anyone they are fact checked and at times edits are rejected which has made many actors angry when they couldn't have something accurate easily removed from their page because people could provide sources. Anyways. The exec producer also discussed her being Latina but fans have somehow dismissed that NoC article (includes EW interview source): thenerdsofcolor(.)org/2016/12/12/the-disappointing-truth-about-supergirls-maggie-sawyer/
I think this explains my point very well. I'm also not negating Kriesberg's words. As I said before I may not agree with the Asian mis-castings that have occurred recently, but I don't get worked up over it. I'm just glad I'm seeing changes... no matter how small they appear to be
â Moreover, saying only actors of the same identity or who have gone through the same struggle as their roles should be hired is utterly ridiculous and negates what being an actor is all about: acting. It would mean only queer actor could play queer character, only junkies can play junkies, etc. Only actors whoâve experienced what their characters have can play them? Instead ofâŚ.acting? They would be playing themselves essentially instead of transforming into their role which is what their profession is about. So Sarah Shahi who is American of Iranian descent can only ever play an american or an iranian? She canât be cast as a POC of another nationality, say⌠egyptian POCâŚor a POC from greece? because she personally has not felt their life experience and culture? She canât play gay because sheâs straight? Or sarah paulson canât play straight because sheâs queer? â â SatGirl
SG press saying Maggie was Latina: imgur(.)com/GLvdtCP(.)jpg. We both know how IMDb is with editing and approved press so this is something the show released or ok'd and it stayed on her character bio until after the backlash started. We also both know diversity is HUGE right now and if she was Latina they'd have her pushing it the way she pushed her Italian heritage while on that mob Doctor show.
Anybody can edit IMDB. Show me something from a trade paper or official press from CW or WB..
