How many steps of off a fence are you supposed to place landing rails? What about a step rail in front?

Generally speaking 9’. For competitions, landing rails can be no closer than 9’ on the backside

Super fun when your horse initially thinks the rail in front is supposed to be jumped with the fence.  Takes off.  Changes his mind.  Puts hooves back down in between rail and fence.  And then thinks he’s back in jumper land and jumps the fence, kicking up so high and hard behind that you go flying off on the back side because you were definitely not expecting that.  #goodtimesintheschoolingarea
