They are youngen, the children. I do not fit withs them and I think I should not feel this way. It is the comparison that makes me feel the same false ache in my bones when health is not the problem. I do not say your are a grandmother. You seems too young for that.
Thank ye for sayin' so. Ya don' look that auld ter me either. Yer right. It's just da comparison dat ages us so. M' name's Staci, by the way.
He didn’t even consider sports at all as being something he was good at. Emrys just found it amusing, at least, it was amusing to consider it. “My Father was into football. He never went pro, though, he had an injury..” He wasn’t referring to his biological father. At the point, Emrys automatically referred to Tobias as his father without a second thought.
”..Yeah, a lot to take in… It’s like getting hit in the chest with a wrecking ball, if I’m to be completely honest. I didn’t think you’d still be around London now. Why are you here?”
"Yer da' was more into books an' studyin' than sports..." She cocked her head to the side slightly. It was one thing for Emrys not to remember, but to remember incorrectly?
She winced at the simily. Too much to hope that finding out she existed would be a joyful reunion.
"I thought I'd be back in Tullamore by now, too, but dealing wit' stuffy old businessmen takes more time than I expected, an' of course the blackout set me back a ways. Besides I've been looking into... something."
It was odd to him, how he could find her familiar and yet remember nothing about her at all. Her voice seemed to ring something in his mind, but what it was trying to coax out was a mystery. Nothing made sense to him when he saw her, and it was part of the reason why returning to London was something he didn’t want to do. Now he had to face the fact that he, in fact, didn’t remember everything as he thought he did. “…At least the other man is worse off than you are.”
Whatever she mentioned just now—it was as if she was hoping he would recall it. “I’m afraid I don’t know what that means…” A winning goal? Was he in sports or something? He didn’t remember ever playing sports much—how much of his memory was there? Actually, now that he thought back, he honestly didn’t have much memory of anything. It was black. “…It must have been exciting for everyone. I just don’t remember any of what you mention. I don’t even remember you.”
"Aye, well dis aul wan's 'ard ter break." She shrugged it off. An attempted mugging meant little to her. The mystery of her nephew was an entirely different story.
That blank stare, the barely concealed confusion, it was a knife twisting in her gut. Finding her nephew alive, but without the slightest recollection of her, of his childhood as she knew it- it was like losing him all over again.
"Ye... Ye played football. You were good, too." Obviously nothing seemed familiar to him. It had been a foolish hope that she could simply spark his subconscious and undo whatever hid all those memories. Silly to think she could make him suddenly remember her.
"Aw, don't worry about it lad. This is a lot to take in, so I'll try not to rush ya."
"Sounds like a lot to handle… You weren’t hurt too badly during the Blackout, were you…?" Emrys swallowed hard, though he still kept a large distance between himself and the other. "…I wasn’t here for the Blackout, fortunately."
"Oi can manage. Wouldn't 'av 'ad more than a scratch, if da bloody streetlights 'ad been on." Staci kept her tone light. No need to worry the boy, besides it had almost been fun to get in a fight again after so many years living as 'good citizen'. "Some idiot pulled a knoife on me. Gave 'im a broken jaw an' some cracked ribs for 'is trouble, 'an 'e gave me a good jab in da side. Oi'll be fine. Ah've had plenty worse."
She wanted close the distance and crush him in a tight hug, but he was obviously not nearly ready for that, so she shoved her hands in her coat pockets instead. "Glad ta hear ye were safe. Last toime Oi saw such a ruckus wus when ye scored the winnin' goal of the season. 'Ad 'alf the town drunk an' celebratin'."
I understood like… Three words of what you just said. I did understand the grandma thing! Did you throw rocks at him?
"Paddy" means kid, an' no, I did not throw rocks at him. 'Ere in London, I think someone might t'row a hissy fit if anyone tried to punish a child properly.
Kids say all kinds of things and most of the time it’s just to get a rise out of ya. Don’t let it get to ya. So, where in Ireland you from?
Aye, Oi know, but ye'd think someone would teach 'em a little respect. Born an' raised in Dublin, though I moved ta' Tullamore when I got married.
I don’t know if you could contact him. Haven’t seen him for sometime and he might have relocated? Okay, lady. Don’t have to get your knickers in a twist ya know. Fine, here’s the card. Find the guy name Halric Kingston. He might want to help you with whatever you’re trying to find. Just uh.. he might be an arse but give him time.
Yer sure 'e can find what Oi need t'know? Oi'm not aboyt ter waste me time an' money on someone useless.
"Great. Hotel security was all but useless during the blackout, an' now Ah've 6 stitches an' a major setback in getting Brenden's business deals sorted out. Might as well get a flat and a day job. Oi'm goin' ta be 'ere a while."
"Hase a right fucker fer callin’ you granny. Ware is it yer from, love?"
"So nice ter 'ear an Oirish lilt again. Tullamore, Though oi wus born an' raised in Dublin. An' you?"
Dat young paddy jist called me "grandma"! I swear, runnin' 'round London wit' all dees kids is makin' me fale ancient.
On second thoughts, I think I know a better person for your concerns.. I mean that guy I mentioned? He’ll probably bounce it back to this other one. His name is Killian Brady. Long hair, look like a dreamboat. Boy, I haven’t been called laddy for so long. I was being nosy — what are you looking for?
Killian Brady? A good Oirish name...
Oi don't care wat 'e looks like. I'm in the market for a detective not a fella. Ah've lost count av how many times ah've been called "lady" since Oi arrived in London. Ah'd tell ya ta min' yer own business, ah've already pulled ya into mine... A car crash involving someone close to me was ruled an accident several years ago, but now oi've ta believe dat's not the case.
I wish I could help you, but I’ve the closest I’ve come to a private detective is dressing as one for a film. What’s wrong?
That's too bad. It's de sort of t'ing dat only 'appens in flicks, or so oi t'aught. Someone declared dead years ago is very much alive...
I do know a man. But he hates it when we call him a private detective because he just refuses to believe he is. Got a huge ego and shit. But he’s good. What you up for lady?
Oi can deal wit' an ego, -if 'e's good. Wat d'ye mean by "up for", laddy?
Odd thing to ask a person, but no, I’m afraid I don’t. Any particular reason you’re in need of one?
It sounds crazy. Oi 'alf expect oi'm losin' me mind. Oi ran in ta someone Oi believed was dead fer years, an' I want ter know 'ow he survived, and why someone would want me ta t'ink 'e was dead.
Headcanon: family
Family is the ultimate priority for Staci. She's had good friends and bad friends. She's been poor, and she's been wealthy. She's had score's of boyfriends in her youth, but the one thing that has always been there for her is family. It was for the sake of family that she decided to reform after a reckless young-adulthood. Missing little Christopher's wedding was a hard blow and she worked hard to reconnect with him and his new family. She absolutely adored her younger brother, admired her sister-in-law and doted on her nephew. Losing the three of them in the car crash was devastating, especially since it was ruled an accident, so there was no one to blame. Now that she's found Emrys and it appears that someone, or multiple someones, were behind that tragedy, she's out for blood. No one touches her kin and gets away with it.
Tea?
"Aye, if yer out of coffee, but make it dark an’ strong. Oirish Breakfast, if you’ve got it."
