Fable turned the TV in the kitchen and watched SkyNews. Another brief news about her father who fled the country a few years ago to avoid the causes of what he did in the past. Something involving tax and money laundering. Fable wished that all the accusations were false, but they weren’t. Dino did leave the country to avoid all those stuff he was afraid of. But he came back and was probably lounging by his pool by now.
But he came back and was probably swimming in his pool right now. They ended the Dino updates and Fable had to sigh in relief. She loves Dino despite everything that he’d done to her, he’s her father, the first man she’d love. He’s the only family she’s got and vice versa. Fable will do just about everything to keep him on his feet. Those news knew nothing about Dino, and they’d no right to talk about him the way they did.
Then there was another news. Someone died and his name was very familiar to fable. Arnold Grant died young—at 65—heart attack, it seemed. He left tons of money and estates to his wife, mistress and his business empire to his only son, Stefano Grant II. Fable didn’t care, but the news did shock her a bit. Arnold was her ex father-in-law and Stefano was her husband. They never saw each other again after the divorce and none of them even tried to contact one another. Guess that’s what happened if your marriage was loveless. “Dino, Arnold Grant is dead,” she said as she moved away from the kitchen and into the drawing room.
“I heard, kid, I heard.” he answered. “You going to call Stefano?”
“I don’t know, Daddy. Maybe not.”
Fable could hear her father sighed. “He was your husband, kid. You probably should give him a call no matter what. Just to show your condolences.”
“Okay,” she agreed, knowing better than to argue with her daddy. “Don’t forget your meds, daddy.”
“Love you too, Daddy.” She hung up and saw Gabriel’s text, letting her know that he was on his way. Gabriel was….interesting, cute, very easy going. He liked books, which was beyond amazing and he’d agreed to help her with her library. “I have a friend coming in for a visit. His name’s Gabriel. He’ll probably be here soon.” she told her butler and went to the house phone and dialed his father. “Can you show him his way here. I’ll be waiting for him here.” Then she dialed a number. Her ex-home in Windsor, asking for Stefano, and managed to reach him for the first time since their divorce four years ago. She told him how she felt sorry and asked how he was holding up. He told her thank you and that all was fine.
“I appreciate you calling,” he told her from across the line just as Gabriel entered her drawing room.
“Yeah, well, I know how it’s like to lose someone important.” she gave Gabriel a smile and nodded her head, covering her phone and told him to sit down. “Well, I must go now. Take care and once again, I’m so very sorry for your loss.” and then she hung up and turned her attention to her guest. “Hi, hi, sorry for being rude. Welcome to my….home.”
