I love it when you can pick up an animator’s quirks.

     I’ve read in old interviews with Milt Khal’s fellow animators that he did the swaggle to purposefully show off. Moving the head in 3-d space is an exceptionally hard thing to do but Khal upped the level of difficulty to a place many animators wouldn’t go.      Not only are they all doing the swaggle you’ll notice they are all TALKING while they are doing it. This is back in the days where you had to use a timing sheet to pace your animation and a head swaggle doesn’t work if its too slow or too fast so he had to figure out the right speed so it looked natural while the character finishes what they have to say while not interfering with the distinct mouth shapes.       Not only did Khal do it without any shifting weight problems or timing issues he would often do it while moving the rest of the body. This isn’t his signature move just because he was good at it.This is his signature move because he was one of the only people skilled enough to DO IT AT ALL.

Milt Khal was a MASTER.

1. You are responsible for your own media experience. 

2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.

3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.

4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, that’s fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.

5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.

6. Content creators are not your parents and owe you nothing, not even a breakdown on why their content isn’t problematic. You don’t get to demand a dissertation denouncing any and everything unhealthy in a piece you don’t like. Move on.

7. Tagging is a nicety but not an obligation. You can message people, politely, and ask them to tag things, and many people will, but understand that it’s their blog and they aren’t obliged to say yes. Unfollow and block when you need to. Circling back to number 1, you are responsible for curating your own experience.

8. Don’t be a jerk. Remember at the end of the day, there are actual living, breathing people behind each screen name. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to someone’s face in real life.

So one of my tweets kinda blew up. :v

So in the middle of Lake Superior is Isle Royale. It used to have a solid wolf presence, keeping the moose and other animal populations in check. Until humans started visiting the island and brought their dogs. And with their dogs came Parvovirus. This killed most of the wolf population on the island which has cause the moose and other animal populations a to EXPLODE, throwing the entire ecosystem of the park in disarray. There’s been a lot of talk and plans of reintroducing wolves, since theres 2 wolves as far we can tell. 2 wolves. Pack animals.

Anyways, every time this pops up, there’s a lot of push back from people saying it’s a bad idea and we shouldn’t mess with nature. When messing with nature is how we got into the situation to begin with. You can still visit Isle Royale, but you are NOT allowed to bring your dog.

I do hope wolves get successfully reintroduced to the island. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but killing wolves messes with entire delicate chains of life.

a large part of why coyotes are such abundant ‘nuisance’ animals is because they haven’t been kept in check by larger predators (wolves) that would drive them out and compete for prey with them. coyotes aren’t inherently bad animals but our concept of “reintroduction of wolves = dangerous” is totally ignoring the explosion of coyote, deer, and so on populations that’s led to collisions, attacks, etc …
