I’ve worked on about a dozen shows since I got to college, as my high school had no theatrical program. even though I’m a stem major, our theater program is super special to me and I love it so much!!

I was lucky enough to see Sweeney 2023 and Gatsby on Broadway. I’ve also had the privilege to see Jagged Little Pill, Hamilton, The Lion King, Wicked, and Beetlejuice on national tours! Each of these experiences felt life changing and I will treasure them forever!

ever since someone pointed out to me that shakespeare wrote "twelfth night" after one of his twin children died, it's hit different.

like we know precious little about shakespeare's life and even less about what was on his mind when he wrote each play, but....he wrote a story where the twins torn apart by fate reunite, where the brother thought to be dead and gone forever actually miraculously survived, where the emotional climax of the story isn't the various love triangles getting sorted out, but the twins finding each other again and getting to live happily ever after.

okay i know i’m Back On My Bullshit but hear me out: found footage macbeth

so much of the plot of macbeth revolves around… the fact that we don’t get to watch the plot of macbeth. we never get to see macbeth and banquo win a battle; we never get to see macbeth kill the king; we don’t see his coronation; we don’t watch lady macbeth die. so much of macbeth is what’s told through the cracks - we just get the lead-up to and aftermath of events.

so: found footage macbeth. security videos and transcripts from dunsinane and inverness. interviews with castle guards, lady macbeth’s handmaidens, figures like ross and lennox. news articles about the deaths of duncan and macbeth… battle casualty counts… whatever lady m wrote on those papers during her sleepwalking scenes… young siward’s school records… i could go on

"backstage at a live event" is perhaps my favourite human collective emotion ive ever experienced. From running through the creepy empty school hallways before a theatre show, to the staff only breakroom at a convention or event where youre running a stall, to the bridal suite getting ready before your bestie walks down the isle.

Theres a little wall between the guys who are 'in on it' with you, whatever it is, and your audience or customers or guests or just all those people who are *not* in on it. Youve got a wallkie talkie, or a backstage pass, or an exhibitor badge, and youve never felt more alive
