The Brave Little Toaster is a boy toaster. Which makes that story all the more horrifying. Because it had zero to do with the character and everything to do with the actress playing him. Despite the fact that young boys in animation are often portrayed by women. Especially on long running TV shows. Veronica Taylor was literally pregnant when she did the English voice for Ash Ketchum back in the Kanto era. Setting aside the fact that the toaster still defaults to a “boy” for one second- can we talk about how fucking petty and stupid it is that someone stormed out over the VOICE actress. Who iS NOT VISIBLE OR A GIRL IN THE FINAL FILM?????

Thinking about how ultimately Palpatine being the only one truly benefiting from the dark side out of all the movie era sith is completely intentional on his part. His apprentices are all crippled by the way they draw power from their own self-hatred and personal suffering as opposed to the suffering of others. Maul was an abused child lashing out at the world, Dooku was a deeply depressed old man who resented his own inaction and complicity in the perceived corruption of the Jedi Order, particularly his role in Galidraan, and Vader, his magnum opus, draws his power from his own constant agony, and his hatred at himself for killing the Jedi, the woman he loved, and his unborn children. And this makes each of them immensely powerful and incredibly unlikely to turn on him until he discards them, as they all remain so self-absorbed and focused on their suffering that they fail to see the outward systemic cause of it.

For me it's a lil more complicated because my fic is an AU, but still—all of it has been written in the post-S2 hiatus. And a part of me wants to see where S3 goes with the emotional beat of the show so I can let that inform my writing. But another part of me is worried some of the characters' emotional struggles and arc will be either too similar or too different to mine and it'll make me feel self-conscious or like my story isn't worth telling anymore. So. Yeah 😭
