hot take: ‘chivalry’ is fine as long as it’s adapted to 21st century values. if you are a male, you SHOULD be aware that your female friends face certain issues that you as a male dont. acting on that awareness in a way that keeps your female friends safe, isn’t a bad thing.

like… opening doors isn’t rly chivalrous when it’s just a thing you ought to do for everyone. but real 21st century chivalry might be, like, standing between your female friend and the guy that’s trying to get her drunk, or offering to walk her home when it’s late.

if the ‘chivalry’ inconveniences everyone involved and you’re just doing it for your over-inflated male ego — ie, “no you’re the girl here, you HAVE to let me hold this door for you and do all these things for you even when you can do it yourself and im just slowing you down” — then it’s just outdated misogyny.

Chivalry was literally designed to make nobles aware of their power and influence so they don’t unintentionally harm people when trying to do their job of leading and protecting people. Modern chivalry should carry on that sentiment of men and white people becoming aware of their own power of privilege and influence to help and protect the lives of their peers.

*Not to inflate their egos, but because it’s the good thing to do and makes the world a better place to be.

Chivalry, at its core, involves being helpful to people who don’t have your advantages. 

It involved generosity and protecting those weaker than oneself: including opening doors when doors were made of badly fit heavy wood and often got stuck,and women, especially undernourished exhausted-from-childcare women, had a harder time opening them. It involved not lying, and following through on your promises. (A guy who is consistently late with the accounting reports, which delays the whole team, is not dedicated to chivalry, no matter how polite he is on a date.)

As we all know, the milkshake brings the boys to the yard. Are you for the pewdiepie is nazi hate? You reposted that post about it and how "he shouldn't be a thing". If so why? It was a joke and wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I watch e;r myself before all of this and if you think he's actually a nazi then you're just blindly following whatever the media says and not actually fact checking. I hope you're not being ignorant about this

He’s made numerous anti-semitic jokes. He uses the N-word. He just gave promo to a Nazi conspiracy theorist. Why are you making excuses for a racist Nazi?

A few things: Someone pointed it out, but Pewdiepie isn’t stupid. This isn’t happening in a vacuum. He knows damn well saying the n-word is racist, he knows damn well paying people to hold a sign up that says “kill all Jews” is racist. He knew damn good and well when he deliberately did these things what he was doing and who he was pandering to when he did it. He can issue a weak-ass apology and shrug wildly and pretend he was “just joking”, but here’s the thing: If you “joke” about things like just tossing the n-word out there or “tee hee kill all Jews!” as a joke, you’re sending the message to people who sincerely believe these things that their behavior is acceptable. They can silently sit, and be validated, because someone like Pewdiepie thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to “just joke” about racism. It’s okay! He doesn’t mean to actually be racist, it’s just a joke! 

It’s basically a form of dog whistling: A way to let a specific group know you’re sending a message, while being able to plausibly deny you are sending that message to others who catch you in the act. “It’s just a joke! I didn’t mean to be racist!” Well, it was still racist.  By “joking” about the things Felix jokes about, he is sending his audience the message these things are acceptable, and there’s nothing wrong with joking about them. 

People need to realize this man is worth millions of dollars. He’s not some innocent kid with a Youtube channel, he’s a millionaire with a far-reaching platform that can talk to millions of kids and young people who are still trying to figure themselves out. People who would idolize their favorite funny Youtuber. Instead of keeping his gross racist jokes off his platform, he keeps “accidentally” having these moments again and again and again. It’s not an accident. He’s racist. Offering weak apologies for it and then repeatedly doing it again and again means he doesn’t actually care about being racist. He cares about trying to smooth over his reputation. 

Stop letting him get away with it. Start thinking critically for yourselves. Don’t handwave someone suggesting Jewish people should be murdered. Don’t handwave him calling someone the n-word during a “heated gaming moment”. Don’t handwave him promoing a Nazi channel. Don’t handwave him dismissing women talking about the pay gap. 

The dude is a piece of shit. He’s a racist scumbag who hides behind charity donations and the occasional “oops shrug” but he’s never really owned up to these things, and he never will, because he is honestly, unrelentingly racist. He’s just managed to find the right way to avoid being deplatformed for it so far. He needs to be unfollowed and forgotten.
