The story of your vampire lovers didn’t start out quite like a fairytale. In fact it almost felt like the start of a horror movie. A human couple who stumbled their way too close to the house at the end of the street. The large manor that sat at the edge of the woods. You and Jisung had both heard the stories of the house, and its seven occupants. Eventually you’ll learn the truth of the house and the origins hidden behind the tall metal gates. The story of the House of The Strays. The title says it all, coined by the original stray Chris, a vampire turned on accident after being left for dead. With no one and no place to go he settled just on the outskirts of the city keeping a low profile as he worked to provide for himself.
He’ll tell you how he runs into Felix, another stray, who had been kicked out of his coven for refusing to hunt the humans. Chris, having been immortal for half a century at that point, takes him in without question. Vowing to never leave Felix’s side. And then came along Changbin and Seungmin, having heard rumors of a safe house for their kind. And Chris, with his ever soft non-beating heart, welcomes them into his family. Minho comes next, hard shelled and slow to befriend, but the others don’t bat an eye. They all see the way he cares for them silently. They only comment on his actions on occasion. Only when they’re sure he won’t rip his fangs through their neck. Hyunjin and Jeongin come next, but they come within hours of each other and no one really remembers who was first is what they tell you. But the youngest vampire, Jeongin, will corner you and say he was first, and he’ll swear by it until the end of his days. After the six Chris thought that was enough. His coven, his family, albeit chaos incarnates, was perfect. Until Minho met you and Jisung.
In the future, it’ll be a story you all laugh at as you tell around the dinner table. But in the moment, as a dark looming shadow stands over you two you can’t help but be paralyzed in fear.
You clutched onto Jisung too scared too scream as the shadow inches closer. A man with bright red eyes and light-blond hair steps out into the moonlight watching you closely.
“You shouldn’t be here,” he says coldly.
You and Jisung sputter, unable to find words as you stare up at him.
The man’s eyes narrow at the two of you, glancing between you both.
“Leave, and if you value your life, never return,” he says calmly. You can only nod, still trembling. With a final glare, the man turns walking back into the forest disappearing into the night.
Needless to say both you and Jisung evidently didn’t value your lives, as you both returned a few nights later. A really stupid idea, truly. Each of you curious of the man you met and hoping to run into him again. Which you do, only to be warned to stay away. The man, who you’ll later learn is named Minho, eyeing you both with cold glares. That does nothing to deter you idiots and your crush on the mysterious being. It becomes a routine, like clock work you’ll both end up in the clearing and as usual Minho will emerge, sending you off with hearts in your eyes. It doesn’t take long for you to crack Minho’s resolve. You’ll find he has a soft spot for insufferably clingy people. AKA you and your boyfriend.
But of course this isn’t like the fairytales with a quick happy ending. No, Minho will remember the night of Jisung’s turning for eternity. One day he’ll tell you he still gets nightmares from it. The thought of losing one of his mates, although you were just two humans he’d met by chance at the time. He still felt like his world had started to crumble watching it unfold. But I’ll save the story of Jisung’s turning for another time. After that night, you and Jisung became the final members of Chan’s coven. Although Jisung would be the only of you two to turn at least for the time being.
Despite the dramatic night you’d experienced, you and Jisung still find yourselves seeking out Minho. Only this time he’s just as desperate to be near you. It’s late when you walk into the apartment exhausted from another work day. You’ve barely managed to set your bag down when you feel a presence beside you.
“You’re home late,” he says, more of a statement than a question.
“Project meeting ran long, I didn’t realize how late it had gotten,” you hum, dropping your bag in its normal spot. The lack of response doesn’t bother you as you continue to kick off your shoes and drop your keys into their own spots. Finally, you turn to face the man next to you. It’s not surprising when you find his attention zeroed in on you. Hyunjin watches you intensely, eyes tracking every move you make. His gaze softens as you smile at him.
“I don’t like when you’re late. It makes me worry,” he says calmly. His hands twitch at his sides, a habit you know means he needs to hold you.
You nod, opening your arms for him. He stares at you for a beat before he practically lunges for you, pulling you against him firmly. You run your hands along his back, allowing him a moment to relax in your arms. Once the tension leaves his shoulders you speak again.
“I know, I didn’t mean to stay so long, I just lost track of time,” you soothe him gently.
He nods, head moving to nose at your neck. You hear him inhale slightly before he stops. A choked sound leaves his lips as you feel him tense. His hands dig into your hips ever so slightly.
“Why the fuck do you smell like another man,” his voice drops.
He pulls away, enough to stare down at you. His eyes flicking to their obsidian color as he stares down at you in confusion. You don’t bat an eye at the sudden change, staring at your lover in confusion. There isn’t a chance for you to respond before you feel another presence in the room. You blink once before your other lover appears behind Hyunjin. He also stares at you, inhaling deeply. He grimaces at whatever he finds, his warm chocolate eyes flicking to black as well.
“He’s right. That’s another man’s scent,” Chan, says with a grim tone.
You stare at your lovers in confusion. To anyone else, the sight of two demons would petrify them, have them scream and run in fear. But the sight of your two lovers like this is nothing new.
Meeting Chan and Hyunjin was purely by accident… well not really.
They had been summoned to you, a silly college student, through a random dare. You can still recall the way Chan and Hyunjin manifested before you in the blink of an eye. They’d introduced themselves, both powerful enough to send you out of existence with a blink you’d gathered rather quickly, explaining that they weren’t here for your soul and only a little bit of fun. After the initial shock of the ordeal, one thing led to another leaving you absolutely wrecked by the Demons.
That should have been the end of it, a one night stand you’d have to take to your grave unless you wanted to be locked away in a padded room. But one night was never bound to be enough. They quite literally couldn’t get enough of you. Popping in at random times just to be with you. Eventually confessing that they couldn’t stay away no matter how hard they tried. And so began your love story of sorts, if you can call it that. Demons don’t really love. At least not the way humans do. Their version of love is similar to an obsession, demons demand absolute loyalty. A bond that requires you to surrender everything to them, your heart, your body, your very soul. Every single part of you. Hell, you’ve even been marked by the pair. A pair of hearts etched above your breast, a permanent reminder of their claim. A claim they placed on you to let any living creature know that you’re spoken for. A claim that has your lovers worshiping the ground you walk on. Both willing to do anything you ask and in return you belong to them for eternity.
But with that claim comes the possessiveness. At the end of the day they’re still demons. Obsessive, possessive, unwilling to share you with anyone else. Which brings you back to the present.
“Did someone else touch you?” chan asks, moving around you as he examines the rest of you.
“No?” you frown, turning to face him slightly.
“I thought you said you were at work?” Hyunjin questions, eyes narrowing while he looks you up and down.
“I was!” you say, turning to look at him as well. You’re now between your two lovers. A clear tactic to keep you from avoiding their questioning.
“Then why the fuck is someone else’s disgusting scent all over you?” Hyunjin snaps, his temper flaring easily.
“I don’t know? I was just with my coworkers we were just in the conference room, but nothing-“
You trail off recalling the one detail that happened during your meeting. A fleeting moment with your boss that you realized was snowballing into something you could no longer control.
Chan catches your hesitation, as your lips press into a thin line.
“What?”
“It’s just a small thing that happened,” you say quietly, hoping they’ll drop it.
They don’t.
“What small thing?” He asks, eyes narrowing at your awful attempts to downplay it. You don’t respond, turning away from his intense stare.
“Who?” Hyunjin asks, already preparing for the worst.
You avoid his gaze as well, suddenly finding the rug under your feet far more interesting. It wasn’t that you were afraid, no you could never be afraid of the two beings that hold your heart. As angry and threatening as they appeared, you knew they would never harm you. But you knew an argument would ensue the second you told them.
“Y/n.” Chan calls firmly. He waits for you to look up. Watching silently as your eyes trail up his torso until you meet his gaze.
“Who?”
“My manager. I said I was cold so he gave me his jacket to wear for a bit,” you sigh.
Chan’s jaw clenches, waiting for you to tell him what you’ve said isn’t true. You don’t have to look over to see Hyunjin’s reaction. You can practically feel the waves of anger and jealousy rolling off of him. Neither say a word at your explanation. The silence in the room filled only with their harsh breathing.
“You let another man claim you like that?,” Hyunjin spits out. The deep gravelly sound of his demon form breaking through towards the end. The relaxed mood you once had disappears immediately. Annoyance swelling inside you at the implication of his words. Normally you wouldn’t be so quick to sour with your lovers’ overprotective nature. But the combination of a long work day and unnecessary argument has you heated.
“He’s just someone from work. You’re making a big deal out of nothing,” you snap.
Hyunjin’s hand goes for your throat, gripping lightly, not enough to hurt you, but enough to make you freeze. He turns your head towards him. His dark eyes boring into yours, pinning you in your place.
“Where’s this attitude coming from, huh?” he practically snarls. You can feel the way he trembles from where his hand touches your skin.
“You think you can just let some other man put his clothes around you like you're his?,” his anger builds with each word he spits. The human appearance he’s shifted into beginning to fail as his demon fights to be let out. The telltale signs of his true form coming to the surface.
“Is that it, doll? Forget who you belong to?” he asks. The sharp ends of his claws begin to dig into your skin as they grow.
‘N-No Jinnie, it was nothing I-” He’s shushing you before you can finish, raising a finger to his lips. Your lips snap shut as you stare up at him. Now is not the time to argue and you know it. Hyunjin, smirks as he steps closer crowding you back into Chan's chest. You go willingly, matching every step until you feel the warmth of a solid body behind you.
