Every time someone in this fandom puts up the Free Cities or Valyria as some sex-positive queer paradise in comparison to Westeros I just have to laugh. Because like, do you guys know what a charnel pit is? Cause Valyrians did, they had a shit ton at Gogossos where they bred slave women with animals to create horrible beasts and concocted terrible plagues. The official slave tattoo for enslaved prostitutes in Volantis is a teardrop on their cheek because they just have to rub in how tragic their lives are.

I know the Faith of the Seven looks like Christianity, but that doesn't make the people with literal charnel pits better in comparison. That's your religious trauma talking. Westeros is one of the only places on the Narrow Sea besides Braavos where slavery is illegal of their own free will, and its because the Seven specifically forbid it. (It's illegal in Pentos, but only because of a peace treaty with Braavos and they just switched to indentured servitude.) I'd much rather be a woman in Westeros than damn near anywhere else. It was a Pentoshi cheese merchant who helped sell Dany to the Dothraki. Lys was a pleasure colony that Valyria specifically cultivated to be their personal brothel. There are more slaves in Volantis than free people.

And yet I STILL think that there are prospects to elevate and much more possibilities to accomplish

I mean, yeah, Dany had come through a LOT of shit here too BUT in the end it was all payed off in the fullest because Essos at least knows and sees the threat which pose a woman with three speedy growing dragons (aka SO big that you would really rather be her loyal servant and subject than the enemy and stand in her way) AND because Essosi are the people/nations which had always lived with magical power side by side and thus recognise someone who wields it and openly expresses it in one of a kind precedents (aka Dothraki IMMEDIATELY becoming her army and khalassar after she proved that she’s something akin to a literal deity/divine entity by remaining alive after the fire AND hatching three dragons after so long since there was at least one)

Which all, unfortunately, couldn’t be said about Westeros where even the most prominent and palpably supernatural women still being treated like a mere cattle no matter how much of a dragons they will have and of what size, more so, who on top all of that could be slandered as witches for just being…well…themselves (aka Valyrians) and that there’s literally NO any ways for a woman, even if she would be the most powerful Targaryen one, to elevate/to be free/to live full life or to be simply save and sound without any risk to be raped, forced into unwanted marriage or marital reproductive abuse looming over the head every single day

We saw all of this literally on EVERY single one of the Targaryen female’s example but the fully and completely it was shown on Rhaenyra’s example — aka a woman which despite all the attributes of legitimacy including her own father’s straight order to crown her as his heir and put on the throne was driven to madness, slandered and mocked and in the end gruesomely killed…

And all of this from the hands, tongues and hatred of those who swore an oath to her house during the conquest of Westeros…but in reality was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to stab and kill just because she didn’t want to become someone’s submissive and quiet fuck toy which would’ve shoot litter after litter until her damn womb and uterus wouldn’t fall out…

"Essos is better because they treat the one woman with enough power to force them to do so better" Which you know, isn't even really true. Or did you forget that they tried to fuck her over in Quarth, while buying the Unsullied, that the Dothraki did NOT just "become her army" and in fact at the end of the last book Dany is being tracked down by one of Drogo's former Bloodriders to be forcibly taken back to Vaes Dothrak to be made into a Dosh Khaleen? Or half the stuff that goes on in Mereen. Or the way people talk about her in Essos, which isn't any better. They also sold Varys to a weird old wizard to have his balls cut off and thrown into a fire. And if Essos is so great to magical women why was Melisandre enslaved there? As in literally treated like cattle way more than any woman in Westeros. This analysis seems entirely show based

It's possible, but it's much more likely we get the Joffron entry in What You Are to Me than the next chapter of A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. As for anyone waiting on Dismantle/Rebuild I am doing my best but I am struggling with that one. If anyone would like to be a sounding board, shoot me a DM!

I don't hate the Blacks. I love the Blacks, actually. But the overwhelming amount of Green Bashing, most of it untagged because people think they're actually being accurate when it's just unapologetic bashing REALLY makes me want to write some Black Bashing. LIke can we get some BALANCE here people?? I want 10 fics about Daemon giving Jace a black eye and Jace trying to hide it and say he fell and Aegon not fucking falling for it for a second while Aemond realizes Luke is more jumpy around Corlys than he is around Aemond and getting jealous until he realizes "oh shit this is like actual for real fear" and gets chompy at the Sea Snake on my desk by TUESDAY!!!

This video would be surprisingly informative for a lot of this fandom that doesn't really get how medieval feudal politics worked

A lot of people in this fandom have a very post-medieval view of Kingship, succession, and medieval politics that just isn't accurate to Westeros or to actual history. And I think this video going into the absolute MESS that was Carolingian succession disputes might go a long way in getting people to understand why things like "The King said so, so it must be so" is such a silly thing to say. This isn't Louis XIV, this is not an absolute monarchy.

someone remind me that I have like 3 ongoing fics and a oneshot series and I do not have time or creative energy to pick up a fic for the sole purpose of having Jace and Rhaenyra go head to head in a momson fight to the death. Remind me that Jace usurping his mother is not a good enough reason to add another thing to my plate, because nothing is a good enough reason to do that right now.

Someone remind me that while it would be sick as fuck for Aegon and Jace to kiss in front of the 'Queen of Bastards' graffiti, I do not have time for that. Tell me to my face that I have to set aside my burning need for Jace to declare himself a bastard out of spite and become Aegon's 'favorite' and eventually put the crown on Aegon's head himself in a symbolic gesture of fealty and romance.

Juuust in case I got any other Magic fans here (I don't, I am alone. BUT IF I'M NOT PLAY ARENA WITH ME) What decks I think people would play (not what I think their colors would be as cards, just them as players) Jace: Azorius control and he's an ASSHOLE about it!! Unicorns, cats, going wide. You can't block her if she has a million tiny creatures with lifelink and you only have 3 blockers Cregan is obviously Gruul werewolves. Why did you even ask? Helaena, hot take, INFECT!! She has a bug heavy infect deck because doesn't everyone just love poison damage? (no) Daeron Boros artifacts and equipments. Going wide, hitting hard, stacking up equipments on knights and angels and shit.

New Citrus Scale, just to be silly

The worst thing about that recent Jacegon Lucemond AI fic is that the premise was actually so awesome 😭😭😭 The boys realizing Rhaenyra isn't really as capable of protecting them as she thinks and keeps fucking them over with her short-sighted decisions? Daemon being a menacing presence in their lives they know will kill them? I would have lived for that. Yes even if it was badly written or badly translated. I'm that desperate for Jace and Luke defecting fics.

I read somewhere that grrm original thought for dance was Aegon ll being the heir and Rhaenyra his actual older sister usurping the throne from him. The more I think about this the more it seems very interesting. Like imagine if he made Aegon with all the quality a heir should've, ready to inherit the throne after the King's death. And Rhaenyra like empress Wu Zetian who actually built her Influence in the court scene throughout the years and took the throne by being politically cunning and ruthless and wiped out any male who had a claim before her. Who actually ruled the kingdom with an iron grip during her reign, but in her last days also gets usurped. Instead of making both of them stupid and impulsive. And stacking every odd against Rhaenyra and making her a cripple with her own claim (yes!! I read your anarchy post about how she has no legal or moral ground to stand on.)

Like we don't need the reinforcement of the fact with different characters thorough out the story how patriarchy makes it difficult for women to be rulers. We could've had a female who took it by force and made her rule be so it reinforces the original concept that monarchy is bad whether it's male or female. Instead of making whatever mess dance of the dragons is in the books.

Ooooooh shit that would have been sick as fuck. Rhaenyra as Wu Zetian? Like I know some people are going to hate me for this suggestion because it's not exactly nice to Rhaenyra, but can you imagine if she ended up gunning for her sons the way Wu Zetian wasn't afraid to take a bitch out of this world if she brought him into it? Imagine if instead of Alicent sacrificing Aegon and Aemond, Rhaenyra purposefully sent Luke and Jace off to die in the war knowing that clearing the bastards from the board gave her a better chance?? Like let women have hobbies and interests, damn. Let women kill their children, as a treat. Just make it make more sense than Alicent!!! This sort of got away from me because your suggestions just gripped me so much LMAO but yes, I agree that a Rhaenyra that was never really even offered the throne but took it anyway would have been a great way to inject some much needed logical sense into the Dance. Either Aegon can't be her brother and he knows damn well he's usurping, or Rhaenyra has to be clear-eyed about the fact that she's usurping Can't have a good Usurpation if everyone legitimately thinks they're the rightful heir! Someone's gotta decide the line of succession only matters if they get caught doing their murders or something.

Not "The Character did nothing wrong" or "The Character is irredeemably awful" but a secret third thing: The Character may display moments of deep love & compassion, may even have a strong sense of ethics, and may also be capable of brutal cruelty that is irreconcilable with those traits. The constant tension between the different sides of The Character's nature is exactly what makes them compelling, and attempting to reduce them down to simply "a terrible person" or "innocent & misunderstood" is missing the point of the questions a media with nuanced characters is asking you to consider
