“I guess you’re right, I should just go ahead and give Juvia a chance,” Gray told Erza, ignoring her baffled look at his words.

He heard a crash behind him and grinned as Natsu dropped his plate full of food on the guild floor before growling, “Like hell you are!”

Gray turned and locked his gaze with Natsu’s, fists raised in challenge, “Oh? And since when do you care what I do?”

“I don’t, “ Natsu answered weakly, surprised by his outburst and looking to make a hasty retreat, but Gray’s cold stare held him in place, demanding an answer to his question, and to Natsu’s chagrin he felt the blood travel up to his cheeks leaving him no choice but to reply in utter mortification, “Fine! Because I maybe like you, okay?”

Gray watched enthralled as roses seemingly bloomed on Natsu’s cheeks, his signature smirk on display as Natsu’s words pierced through his daze, “Finally! Took you long enough to admit it,” he goaded his rival, laughing as he ran away from a furious Natsu, who had yet to realize he’d been tricked into revealing his feelings or that Gray hadn’t said he didn’t share them.

Natsu,

I can’t forget that I watched you fall apart. Or that I didn’t do anything to ease your pain. I was too caught up in my own to really understand what had just happened in front of your eyes. I wasn’t there for you when you needed me the most, and I can’t easily forgive myself for that.

I would gladly take your pain away, pile it up on top of my own, and lock it away where you would never have to deal with it again. But things don’t really work that way, and my words will never be enough to make it better. Not that I’m any good at them anyway.

I know that you have to go, but Natsu, I want you to remember this — I love you. I always have, and I always will. So don’t worry about me while you’re gone. I will wait for you, for as many seasons as I have to, no matter how long it takes. And when you reach the end of your journey, I hope you come to realize that Igneel will continue to live on through you.

Gray looked up from his textbook as soon as he heard the sound of keys jingling outside the door. A smile played across his lips as he waited patiently for Natsu to open the door to their small apartment.

“Hey, welcome home,” Gray greeted, but his words went unheard as Natsu was on the phone laughing with someone.

“Okay, gotta go, Sting, I just got home, see you tomorrow,” another laugh and Natsu hung up already walking towards Gray who had gone back to his textbook to hide his frown.

Natsu put his keys down in his usual place and collapsed on the sofa, arms instantly reaching out for Gray. “How was your day Snowflake, did you get a lot of studying done?”

Gray allowed himself to be held briefly, but before Natsu could kiss him, he mentioned, “You were out late tonight, where were you?’

Reasons to Keep Writing

•everyone starts small. just because you’re not big now, doesn’t mean you’ll never be. and if you’re just starting out, keep in mind those bigger blogs have been writing for much longer than you. building a following takes time. 

•there will always be someone who enjoys your writing. every like, reblog, and comment is one person who enjoyed what you wrote and i can assure you they want more! and remember, not everyone remembers to leave evidence that they liked your writing or they might just be too nervous to interact with you. invisible fans exist, and you’ve got them.

•going along with that last one, your writing has the potential to help others! you could write about a minority, or maybe you could publish a little something comforting at the exact time someone else needs it. and most of the time, when you affect someone like this they’ll tell you, whether it be through tags, or a private message or whatever. that’s an amazing feeling.

•getting a compliment from someone becomes a sure-fire way to make your day better. nothing feels greater than seeing a comment from someone saying how much they love something you worked hard on. maybe write down these comments somewhere, so you can look at them when you’re feeling negative about your skills as a writer.  

•writer’s block is not the end of your writing career. it sure feels like it sometimes, but everyone, even the popular writers you look up to, suffer from writer’s block. everyone puts out work they’re not 100% satisfied with sometimes, and that’s okay! when you get out of this slump, your writing will be better than ever before and you’ll enjoy it again. keep writing through a block so you can get there sooner.

These are the things I think about when I feel bad about my writing, so I hope they can help someone else too.

Chapter 2

Gray had been looking forward to going home. He’d spent the whole day helping out with the construction of the new guild, listening with dismay to all the whispers of how he and Juvia had supposedly “shacked up” for six months. No matter how many times he’d tried to explain that’s not what happened, no one had listened, too intent on the juicy gossip to care about his feelings.

He’d lost track of Natsu sometime during the day, and that saddened him. Things between them had most definitely not been the same since returning from his mission infiltrating the Avatar cult. The disappointment he’d seen on Natsu’s face at seeing him in that place had almost made him forget that he wasn’t there of his own volition.
