“Don’t flatter yourself too much~ A swollen head just makes it a bigger target for me to slap.” As if she were stupid enough to touch him. There were some lines even she wouldn’t cross, and that was definitely one of them.
One quick trip later and it seemed as if Gara was finally ready to set out at least. Maybe it was just because she was used to seeing him as he was now, but Zal found the Kakeru getup far more strange than his suit and hoverboots. And the eyeliner, which she especially loved teasing him about in the past.
“Eh? You’re letting me take the lead? That actually surprises me. Oh! Are those warm and fuzzy feelings of friendship starting to rise to the surface again~? Can I go back to calling you that stupid, cutesy nickname without you ripping my other eye out and force-feeding it to me?”
Probably not, even if he did remember her.
“Well, like I said, the edges of the city seem like a good idea.” Zal began, walking backwards so she faced Gara as she spoke. “I’m not sure I want to try and go through that fog though. It’s so dense that not even the sunlight penetrates through it. Who knows what the hell is hiding in there?
"However, setting them up on the edges of the city might not be that bad an of an option, like I said earlier. If nothing else, I just want to avoid the morons getting overly competitive over this. Are you fine with that? Playing it safe for now?”
She paused for a moment, folding her arms and letting out a gentle sigh.
“I don’t know if it’s the same people running the show like last time, so I can’t really say if there’s going to be any danger involved or not. Maybe these beacons will summon a bunch of demons, who the fuck knows. Just… Be careful, alright?”
The barrel of the gun was pointed at her once more, but more in the sense of pointing his index finger at her. God, he needed a lollipop right now.
“You remember shit, I don’t. I know for a fact you’re used to getting through the events the kidnappers tend to throw at us, so I’m using this as a first time example. That’s all.” Speaking of someone flattering themselves...
Things he wouldn’t mention aloud: safety was first and foremost. With missing pieces of memory and uncertain of what his limits and capabilities were, he knew he had to stick to the outskirts of the city and play it safe. Find spots away from others.
“You’re right. Those piss-brained jackasses will all be too busy fighting over the inside of the city where they think most good points will be. If we do what you’re saying, we’ll cover even more ground and stay away from it.”
She was showing him worry and concern, and it was enough to make him pause for a brief second. A part of him wanted to say the same, another wanted to laugh at her in her face. It was difficult to find the right words in response, though unfortunately for her, she got the Doctor Gara language of reciprocating the feelings.
“You’re the idiot who decided to care about a psychopath. You be careful.”
