Hello! One, thank you for all your work on BSC and its upcoming sequel (!!!), I am w i l d l y excited. Two, inasmuch as you can answer this without spoilers: how did you pick the love interests for the game? So far, I've noticed that the flirt option pops up with Sandra, Peter, Leon, Ram, Teddy, and I want to say—Mel or James, my memory fails me here? There are also some others like Killian who will turn you down, so clearly not everyone who you can flirt with is open to a relationship (which I love for MANY reasons, because one sometimes people don't want to date and two it opens up the possibility of honeypotting someone to solve a case, which is just incredible). Peter is such a fan favorite he's an obvious choice, and you mentioned Leon having a date night, so we'll definitely see more of him, but I was wondering what the deciding factors were on picking the characters that ended up being romanceable, or even just which ones get the most focus (and of course, if I get to have a bit of a bias here, I was utterly and unexpectedly delighted on how important Sandra turned out to be in the sequel, and I would love to know anything about that that isn't too much to reveal). Again, thank you for all your hard work, and whenever the sequel gets here I will play it with absolute delight :D

The line-up of love interests will get a proper reveal in due time, but people have already guessed a few, including Leon and, of course, Peter. (How could he not be romanceable? There would be riots in the street!)
We chose these love interests based on two general criteria first:
we wanted an even spread between male and female love interests
we wanted a more or less even spread of age categories to reflect our audience (2 in their 20's, 2 in their 30's, and 2 older legacy characters)
On top of that, it was important to us that the potential romance would slot well into the character's stories. In other words:
the characters are available and interested in dating, and don't already have a romantic storyline with someone else
they can be present in the story after the midpoint of the game (when a romantic partner is locked in)
a relationship with the bartender meaningfully contributes to their character development, or there are aspects of their personality that could be uniquely explored within romantic interactions
Of course... None of this means that the love interests have "plot armor." That would be a little boring, wouldn't it? Characters you can flirt and start a relationship with can still be suspects or even victims, and can face criminal charges, depending on how well you investigate and the moral choices you make. How's that for the power of love?
