Meta OC Questions
Once upon a time, I posted a series of questions asking about thematic/symbolic elements in relation to ocs.
Well now I've decided to create a new set of oc questions, this time touching upon meta elements of them as well as how they interact with the world they're placed in.
I'm mostly aiming these questions at fandom ocs (which is more obvious in some later questions) but these could also apply to wholly original characters.
..........
What inspired you to create your oc?
Why does your oc look the way they do? What are your reasons for their appearance?
What is the origin of the character's name?
Why did you give them the name they have? What is the in-universe reason for their name?
What kind of abilities and power level does your oc have? Why did you give them their powers? What's the in-universe reason?
What are the weaknesses in their power? Why did you give them their weaknesses? What's the in-universe reason?
Does your oc have any notable skills or good personality traits? Why did you give them those traits? Why do they exist in-universe?
Does your oc have any notable flaws or activities they're not good at? Why did you give them those flaws? Why do they exist in-universe?
In a group dynamic, what kind of role does the oc usually fill? Are they a worry wart? A troublemaker? The straight man?
What is your favorite trait regarding your oc?
What is your least favorite trait regarding your oc?
Which canon characters (if any) do the oc have good relationships with? Why those characters?
Which canon characters (if any) do the oc have bad relationships with? Why those characters?
Did you give your oc a love interest? Is it another oc or a canon character? Why?
How does your oc interact with the canon narrative? What about it do they change?
What aspect(s) of the universe's lore are they connected to? Do they change/add lore to the universe?
List/describe up to five tropes that apply to your oc. They could be related to the oc's characterization or their narrative arc.
Imagine meeting your oc. What would you want to say to them or do with them?
How might your oc react to finding out you are the one responsible for their life?
Share a random piece of trivia about the creation of your oc. Examples: scrapped ideas or changes you didn't expect to make.
something i've noticed. people seem to think the most nature-y nature is forests. so forests are always prioritized for conservation, and planting trees is synonymous with ecological activism. my state was largely prairies and wetlands before colonization. those ecosystems are important too. trees aren't the end-all be-all of environmentalism. plant native grasses. protect your wetlands.
deserts also!!! it sucks so bad that people think of desert as 'wasteland' just because it's not suited for western european style ag development, they're beautiful and delicate and valuable ecosystems and, i think it's good to point out that humans have been living willingly in them for thousands of years
Big fan of like video games/tv shows that change up their title screens/opening and ending credits slightly over the course of the story based off plot events……it’s like oh FUCK a character who just died is MISSING from the TITLE SCREEN now!!!!!!!!!! Holy SHIT!!!!!!!!!;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The lads!! Was fun to draw these two animal hand boys ^^
”walkable cities is ableist” has to be a psy-op. you can’t be this bad at understanding what the term means.
I feel like this is similar to the argument i've seen "working class is an ableist term because not everyone can work" where people just see one word (walkable, working) and make incorrect assumptions based on that alone without further research. In reality "walkable" doesn't refer to "having to walk on two feet" but general mobility outside cars.
2020′s death note reboot where instead of being an anime it’s just L’s true crime podcast
the funniest part of death note was when light thought, "The police are spying on me through cameras in my room. I need them to think I'm a normal high school boy." and then he proceeded to read a porn magazine for 5 minutes without cranking his chain. all while laying on his bed like this
The second funniest part of death note was L, the world's greatest detective, watching Light do this and going "yeah that's perfectly normal and exactly what you would expect from a young man his age. Nothing even slightly odd here."
The fact so few people have mentioned the ensuing potato chip scene that followed wherein he was literally doing math homework with one hand, mass murdering with his other, all while eating potato chips in the most serial killer manner possible.
He gives the bag of chips a more lustful stare than the porn.
Which btw he had previously rigged with a portable TV to watch the news for people to murder, a piece of a page from the death note, and a tiny pencil. His entire plot hinged on the fact he's the only one in the house to like that specific flavor. If anyone grabbed the wrong bag or just poured his chips in a bowl for him before he got home, he would've been boned. He throws the incredibly expensive tiny TV in the trash immediately after too btw.
This scene is genuinely probably one of the most popular and heavily memed scenes in the entire series. For good reason. The cinematography. The way he bites into it like a dog ripping the head off a squirrel. The fact he, in the most serious and dramatic inner monologue, says "I'll take a potato chip.... and EAT IT!!!!" The sparkles. The slo-mo.
Just. Know your history, anime fans. This really shaped a generation and remains the one part of Death Note everyone remembers vividly even if they were never that into it.
Like the fact some of these memes are visibly more recent is horrifying. The impact of this entire episode on society is eternal.
