In the last couple of weeks, I was on Pinterest a lot (tumblr withdrawal). On there, I saw a lot of substack and tumblr posts. Maybe there were some Twitter posts in the mix, too, but I think it’s mainly the other two.
My point is this: I see that there is a specific language developing on substack that might originate from tumblr, but which is also quickly flooding tumblr, as a re-import. I suspect it’s a mix of motivational twitter/insta language, whimsy tumblr aesthetics and intellectual buzzwords. It’s all about curating a schedule that feels like home to you. Whimsy moments to fight against brain rot, seasonal quests and Sunday resets, defining your core values. Everyone is over consuming content, they’re now curating their personal curriculum.
I think it’s the fact that substack is a mix of LinkedIn/Twitter style self-performance mixed with tumblr/pinterest self care girlie talk. It’s the female gaze thought daughter girliepop version of male productivity influencer talk. That language gets reimported to tumblr and Pinterest.

hate on me all you want. animals run to me, kids smile at me, strangers tell me their stories, people feel safe around me and if life has taught me anything, it's that energy doesn't lie.
