part of what’s so poetic about elriel to me is that i feel like azriel feels like he NEEDS a mating bond with someone for him to really have a chance or to be chosen by someone. he’s loved mor all this time and she’s never wanted to be with him and it’s referenced that he kept waiting for the mating bond or hoping for it with her. i think he thinks that if they had one, she’d want him then. the same goes for elain. he feels that because she has a mating bond with someone in lucien, she couldn’t possibly choose him. elain then turning around and choosing him over her mate would be such a…BOOM moment. that she chooses him and how he makes her feel, that she’s saying f*ck what fate tried to choose for me, i choose you regardless. you can’t get much more seen or valued than by someone doing that. especially in their world where some value the bond so highly. i just think it’d be really beautiful to see. i know some people have theories about elriel being mates too but regardless i’d love to see this happen.
