Hey Stargate moots who wear glasses! can y'all please explain what the hell is or is not going on with Daniel and his glasses.
In the first season he fully bumps into a boulder because Jack made him take his glasses off. After that they seem to be Plot Glasses. He needs them when the plot or comedic beats need him to need them. Can he see or can't he?
I know it's possible to need glasses Only A Little Bit or In Certain Situations, but clearly (haha) his vision *is* poor enough to be crashing into boulders. But also he loses his glasses in Fire and Water but has no trouble whatsoever reading the cuneiform on Nem's walls. Then way ahead in season 7 he runs full-tilt-boogie through the meso-american jungle with nerry a tree root to slow him down.
Out-of-universe it would make sense that a character with glasses makes lighting the set difficult because reflections can show up in the lenses. This happens multiple times on the show, with big soft-box lights reflecting in Daniel's glasses for a split second before the editors cut the camera to someone else.
But is that it? Are they Plot Glasses? Is his vision just okay enough that sometimes he forgets to put them on? Did he use his big USAF paycheck to get lasik and then just..? wears non-corrective lenses..? out of, like, habit???
I need answers
Perhaps they’re more like a comfort item in later seasons than something necessary for his vision?
In the season 6 finale (full circle) ascended Daniel pushes his fingers into the bridge of his nose, almost as if he’s trying to push up glasses that aren’t there anymore which shows that he’s not completely used to not wearing glasses!
Maybe after descending, he just used them more as a reminder of who he was than as a means of correcting his vision. Like a lot of people have said, it’s totally possible his vision was fixed at some point!
