I posted a fic recently and one of the very first comments was someone acknowledging the friendship I have given Wayne Munson and Jim Hopper. And can I just say I am so glad someone agrees???
Like, give me Wayne making Jim laugh so hard he's often surprised by it because it's been a long time since someone was able to get a genuine laugh out of him. But Jim can never seem to make Wayne laugh and it drives him insane because what the FUCK????
They are for sure Vietnam Veteran Buddies even though they never talk about their time there. It isn't even like they're the first person that the other has met that was over seas, there's just something about it, when they share their horror stories with each other once. They realize the other has been to Hell and back (if only they knew what their future holds...)
I love them being the kind of friends that don't see each other often but when they do it's as if no time has passed at all. They for sure talk shit about people in the town over drinks - they are the drama
Wayne cries when the town loses Jim Hopper. He attends the funeral, keeps his head down, and lets his nephew dote on him for a few days without complaining because it hurts so much worse than Wayne realized it would, losing a friend.
Wayne crying twice as hard when he realizes that Jim is alive and he doesn't even want an explanation because he knows it's going to be shitty - he just wants to enjoy his return for at least a few minutes.
I am begging you, give me Wayne sitting in the bar with Jim and toasting "To the kids" for both his gremlin nephew and Jim's sweet Sara
