Alright this was prompted by @forbiddenlove1123 who wanted some jealous Pepper and Starker. I didn’t write Pepper exceptionally well and I hope the starker content is bearable. These two were fun to write so thanks for the prompt!!
Tony rocked back on his heels as he watched Peter pull on his boxers and dry off from his shower. He was nervous and it was ridiculous, but then this was Peter Parker and he really didn’t want to fuck this up. This was new, fragile, and Tony had a habit of storming through things like a bull and shattering things never meant to be shattered. Growing up an only child had made him largely selfish, though Peter was changing that by the day. He knew his young love was stressed about mid-terms coming up, but as Rhodey told him, to make this work he had to treat Peter as an equal. He had to take sometimes even if he was nervous to ask anything when he was the one dating up for sure.
“Stop being a creep,” Peter called to him with a smile over his shoulder to soften his words. “Why weren’t you in bed this morning?” The question caused a tinge of pink, but Tony was slightly proud of him for getting it out.
“I had a phone conference,” Tony told him, stepping into the bathroom fully instead of lingering by the door. “Japan waits for nobody, and least of all me. Pepper has no trouble with mornings so she likes to schedule things earlier and earlier.”
“We are so going to Tokyo,” Peter told him around his toothbrush and even garbled Tony could make out what he meant. He spit in the sink and ruffled his curls before perching a hip against the counter and looking closer at Tony. “Why do you seem nervous? Did the call go badly? Or are you leaving on a mission again without me?”
“I”m not nervous,” Tony sighed and knew Peter could see through the lie. “After our conference call Pepper mentioned the Maria Stark Foundation dinner that’s coming up and who I was planning as a plus one.”
Peter’s gaze jumped down to his feet for a moment before brown eyes hesitantly caught his. “Yeah? What did you say?”
“That I have one,” Tony assured him, closing their distance and placing a hand on Peter’s waist. “She just… Well, she asked me to be her date and now she doesn’t believe I have someone new.”
“I thought you guys were over,” Peter’s tone had dropped and this was exactly what Tony hadn’t wanted. Peter had no reason to feel insecure about being Tony’s new boyfriend, no matter who else was before him. Peter was amazing, kind, and beautiful. Tony was absolutely crazy about him, but they hadn’t made their relationship public yet as a mutual agreement. This was the first time Tony had suggested Peter come out in public as something other than an intern.
“We are,” Tony told him firmly. He cupped a hand under Peter’s chin to make their eyes meet. “Pepper is a thing of my past, but she thinks we are both single still so she asked. I have no interest in going with her, alright? I want you to come as my plus one.”
“So I guess I’ll have to tell May before Saturday,” Peter said, stumbling over words a bit and the pink had returned to his cheeks. “Assuming we are going suit shopping Friday as usual then? I can’t be seen in last season’s Armani on Tony Stark’s arm.”
“You could seriously show up naked,” Tony laughed and easily tucked Peter in his arms. “In fact…”
“Nope, dirty talk not allowed,” Peter kissed his cheek before ducking out and finding a shirt from his part of the closet. “I have to spend the day studying, and you’re lucky the gala is after mid-terms or I might have turned even the billionaire down.”
“Have Steve make you a protein shake before you go,” Tony told him with a kiss to his temple. “I’m going to the gym for a bit. And Pete?” He paused before entering his own closet to look at his young lover with hair tousled from his shirt. “It means a lot that you want to come with me.”
“One day you’ll get that I’m the lucky one,” Peter shook his head and strode over to hook a hand behind his neck and pull him in for a proper kiss with just a hint of tongue. “Movie night later?”
“You got it,” Tony let him disappear, but the nerves didn’t fully settle. This was a big test for whoever was with him, the first public outing. It was a lot to handle, the press and magazines hounding them. The ex-lovers all making comments to whatever tabloid would pay attention. Not to mention their age difference was bound to get even more attention with Peter only in college still and not even out in the world yet.
“Shit,” Tony heard from his walk-in closet as he finished tying his tie for the gala. He glanced over himself one last time before heading out to where Peter was in front of the bathroom mirror, struggling with his tie and fussing over his curls. The nerves had obviously settled in now that they were about to debut their relationship. It didn’t help that this had been a rough day for Peter anyways after the stress of testing was over and the adrenaline was gone only for it to spike again with the gala. Tony felt awful he was putting Peter through this and had even given Peter a clear out this morning which wasn’t taken.
“Babe, you look fine,” Tony soothed him. He turned Peter to face him and brushed the trembling hands away to tie the silk himself.
“Sorry,” Peter apologized, cheeks going red despite him not wanting to. “I just… I’m nervous. May took it alright, but now we have the whole world to convince-”
“We are not trying to convince them of anything,” Tony finished the windsor knot and let his hands linger to feel Peter’s whole body shaking as well as his hands. “I told you that you are under no obligation to do this.”
“I can’t let you go with Pepper,” Peter blurted out after worrying his lip. “I want to be with you and part of that is the fact that you’re the most famous man in the world. I’ll be fine, but the thought of… everything is a lot.”
“I get it,” Tony told him softly with a hand coming up to cradle Peter’s face. “It is a lot and it is scary as hell. It took me years to be somewhat okay with it and sometimes the press still gets to me. I’ll be right next to you the entire night I promise you.” He sighed softly and kissed Peter’s forehead, the younger man leaning into the touch gratefully. “You look stunning Peter, Armani is good to you.”
“Back at you,” Peter seemingly couldn’t resist the urge to come closer and hug Tony properly, head tucked into his neck securely. “I love you.”
“Love you more,” Tony said without hesitation, hands coming up to rub Peter’s back gently. “Let’s go wow them with how fabulous we look and all. It’s going to be fine.”
Peter nodded and with one last glance in the mirror he let Tonfy lead him out of their room and to the waiting limo outside.
The press was out in full bloom and Tony saw that Pepper’s limo had just pulled up before theirs had. She was barely getting out and gazing toward his limo, obviously hoping not to walk the carpet alone. He would always care about Pepper, but this was one thing he couldn’t help her with. He knew coming alone to this gala was rough, and as his ex just called all kinds of attention that she would never ask for. He knew she missed him in a different way than he missed her. He missed their friendship and banter, but she missed more than that. She missed their intimacy that Tony couldn’t give her anymore. The intimacy he only saved for Peter Parker now.
“Did we really have to take separate limos?” Pepper asked him as soon as he stepped out into the limelight and cameras started flashing. “I’m so glad we can walk in-”
She was cut off by Peter stepping out behind him and it was instinct that linked their fingers together, Peter’s palm slightly sweaty in his but his grip certain. Tony cleared his throat and ignored the aghast expression Pepper wore. “Sorry Pep, you’re going to have to rock the carpet alone this year. I have a plus one, like I told you.”
“You’re going to humiliate me to bring your intern along? Peter could have brought his own date by now. He’s hardly a kid anymore,” Pepper ranted with a roll of her eyes as both cars pulled away.
“I’m glad you recognize Peter is the marvellous young man on my arm,” Tony told her, unspeakably proud of Peter standing next to him unflinching in the way of Pepper glaring at them. “He may be an intern to SI, but he’s here tonight as my plus one. Peter is the one I’m dating Pepper.”
“He’s barely twenty!” Pepper exclaimed in shock, registering just why she was stuck walking this event alone.
“Let’s go,” Peter urged him quietly with a tug to his hand. Tony had to agree that this conversation could happen at some point inside, but here wasn’t the place or time for it. He adjusted his grip more securely on Peter’s hand and led the two of them through the media frenzy to the open doors of the gala. The chandelier twinkled above them as red carpet gave way to pristine granite floors. As soon as they were past the initial greeting party Tony ushered them to a room only he knew about from being there so often over the years. He shut the slim oak door behind them and grinned to see Peter dissolve in a fit of giggles.
“Their faces were priceless,” Peter said breathlessly with dimples showing in his grin. “That was a little bit fun.”
“It wasn’t bad,” Tony agreed, needing to get his hands on Peter immediately and pressing him against the closed door. “I do think this might be my shortest appearance at the gala in record years.”
“Stop, we can wait until later,” Peter told him, but giggled again as Tony’s lips found the soft skin of his neck. “Plus, I can’t pass up the chance to see Pepper jealous again.”
“She was, wasn’t she?” Tony murmured as he listened to his lover and gave a last parting gentle nip to his skin before pressing their lips together firmly.
“That would get you off,” Peter rolled his eyes with a hand playing with the small hairs at the nape of Tony’s neck. “Can you keep it in your pants long enough for dinner? I promised May we would bring her duck and she has to interrogate you.”
“I have to survive an interrogation and the press?” Tony groaned softly and pressed his head to Peter’s shoulder.
“You knew May would have to say a thing or two,” Peter told him with a kiss to his temple. “I’m just her precious boy after all.”
“Yeah, the precious boy who-” Tony’s words were cut off by a firm kiss from Peter who pulled back with his brown eyes wide and shining.
“I’ll let you have first pick what we do when we get home,” Peter promised him with one last peck. “I might even keep the tie on while you fuck me.”
“That inspires me to behave,” Tony retorted even as he got the hint to pull back and straighten out his suit again. “Ready to go make the world jealous?”
“Let’s do it,” Peter took his hand again and they slipped back out to the crowd, in full view of Pepper Potts who knew without even looking exactly what they were doing. The red flush to her neck made them both stand just a tad taller.
