growing up, the holidays were always the same as every other time of the year. malibu was warm, palm trees, ocean waves. once they moved to new york, the weather changed with the seasons but it never filled her with that childlike joy she missed out on in her youth.

ever since meeting yelena, letting the other woman close, that inner child started to blossom. as the air grew colder, ana didn't think things would be any different than previous years.

once glance outside and any thought of normalcy blew out the window. the small flakes floating threw the air catching her gaze more than they ever had before in life. ana could feel her jaw fall, not drastically but just enough to express the awe she felt at the beauty behind the glass.

"this is a lot more intense than i thought it would be." to be fair, she had never carved a pumpkin in her childhood, only having seen it on tv and the movies. however, the massacre of pumpkin innards on her kitchen island was not quite the autumn picturesque image she had had in mind when inviting yelena over. "i don't think you need to be so...rough with it. 's just a pumkin."

HEART

A heart in a cynical sense feels nothing, it simply carries through all the blood, all the oxygen, all the components the other parts that do feel need. An ugly organ, misshapen and strange when held in the palm of your hand. Yet, it is the center of your being. It is the core. Even when you try to act unaffected, it is your heart that gives you away, skipping a beat, fluttering in excitement, halting dead in terror. You have so much of it to give, you just haven’t learned to discern who is and isn’t worthy of it yet. Hold onto it. Do not whittle it down, carve names into the flesh that you cannot erase. Holding tighter to the drinks, she shook her head, "Not uncomfortable so much as just a lot of memories." Family history wasn't something she liked to drop on someone she just met but there was really no other way around it at this point. "My dad is. . . was Tony Stark. So, I'm very familiar with that tower."

1. Show her off - Ana spent her life hidden, no one knowing who she was. She's still unsure if it was for her own protection or her father's image. Either way, it's caused a massive feeling of insecurity to fester over the years. Always thinking that she is something to be ashamed of. Taking her out, showing that she's yours and you don't care what others think would mean the world to her.

2. Let her care for you - She naturally is someone who cares, is soft. When others are around her, she wants them to feel safe. Let her cook for you, fuss if you're hurt, learn things that help you relax. She wants to be someone's safe space. When they're stressed or anxious, they turn to her to become grounded.

3. Encourage her - Ana has always been timid to do or try things that have interested her, fearing failure. Give her a nudge, say it's okay if she doesn't do well, if things don't work out, that it's okay to try. That you'll still be there to pick her up if she falls.

1. Be present in her life - People have always come and gone so much in her life that she was never able to make connections. It always felt pointless because why get attached to someone who will leave? Make an effort to show you want to be a permanent fixture in her life, that you aren't going to just disappear one day. The longer you stay, the more her walls will come down.

2. Make her feel like more than her name - Being a Stark comes with a lot of pressure that Ana feels like she can never live up to. When people hear the name, they don't see her, they see the Stark legacy. Show that you see Ana, not her father, not her grandfather, but her for who she is with all her strengths and weaknesses.

3. Be Affectionate - Physical and Verbal affection is something she never had a lot of throughout her life. Tony tried as she was older, and Pepper attempted to fill the gaps, but it was never enough. Words of affirmation and physical touch, once you've broken down some of the outer walls, will open so many more doors to her heart.
