s76 has decided to send tracer to go undercover in talon
pharah just sort of blinked at her. ‘really? like, no offense, but lena? she’s the least subtle person i have ever met.’
‘we both know it’s true.’
‘okay, but i can pull this off. if…’ *puppy eyes*
pharah heaves a sigh. ‘what do you need me to do?’
apparently lena wants her to fly over a talon storehouse and drop her as if she’s already dead
it’s a fucking stupid idea and pharah does not hesitate to express this
it puts both of their lives in danger and also, more importantly, might damage the raptora suit
(pharah’s priorities are not entirely in order)
nobody tells mercy because if they did she would beat the shit out of both of them for putting themselves in danger
so pharah flies over and drops lena onto the pavement. she lands with a sickening crack, and pharah winces beneath the mask. talon suits immediately swarm out
one of them checks lena’s vitals and makes the universal sign for ‘she’s dead’
pharah’s about to go save her when lena twitches her finger ‘i’m okay’, and then she nods and flies away
mercy inevitably finds out
back to lena- talon’s ‘brought her back’. she pretends to be brainwashed (symmetra helped her with an antidote to their chemicals)
at first, she does spy. finds out all the secrets she can.
reaper’s underwear is bright red
surprisingly, people at talon aren’t as bad as they seem
the food’s good, and people can actually make half-decent tea.
she becomes friends with some of the agents
they only really make her do little things at first
it builds and builds and it’s really not so bad, is it?
she starts to believe a little in them
maybe they have got it right, and overwatch has got it wrong
maybe overwatch isn’t the organization that’s better
as more time passes, and she spends more and more time hanging out with talon agents, she becomes a real talon agent
they put her up against overwatch in battle
she comes face to face with pharah, lines up a shot, and fires
pharah springs backward. ‘lena?!’
‘why are you shooting at me? friendly fire!’
‘all part of the deal, love. i’m fightin’ talon’s side now.’
‘they’ve got it right,’ lena says, grinning as if she’s not trying to gun down one of her best friends. ‘and, as far as i’m concerned, you’re an overwatch agent. but, y’know, you could always join us.’
‘lena, what did they do to you?’
‘i’m not going to fight you.’
tracer shrugs. ‘okay.’ then she disappears.
a few weeks later, mercy sees tracer’s familiar blue light. she rushes over.
‘lena!’ she cries. ‘it’s been so long, liebling! how are-’
tracer turns, grins, raises her gun with a crack-
mercy crumples to the ground, wings broken.
‘well hey, whaddaya know,’ tracer says complacently. ‘gave me better aim, too.’
pharah knows instantly that something’s wrong when she calls for help and there’s no response.
she’s in the air looking for mercy, and her heart rises into her throat when her heat signature’s not there
‘angela!’ she shouts, ‘angela!’
‘she’s down there,’ tracer says, grinning, and pharah thanks her instinctively, swooping down. mercy’s resting at a strange angle- she knows that’ll hurt her back, doesn’t she, and pharah reaches out a hand to help her up-
and then she realizes. ‘no,’ she breathes, ‘no. no, this can’t-’
she drops to her knees, cradling mercy’s face. in her chest, one of tracer’s familiar bullets is lodged deep, blood pouring out of the wound
‘you did this!’ pharah screams suddenly, and then she’s blindly attacking, kill her, murder her, make her fucking pay, goddamnit
and then suddenly she falls, and her suit makes a whirring noise, and then suddenly she’s curled around mercy
it’s automatically coded to move to mercy, and now fareeha amari lies dead on the dusty ground next to the love of her life.
‘aw,’ tracer says, ‘it’s almost like romeo and juliet.’
and then she leaves, whistling a quiet love song.
