Oh, right. He could.

Looks like Jecra had him down to a T already.

“Yeah, this rock’s a little lonely with only me around. Good to meet ya!” He claps Jecra’s hand into a locked handshake and grins. Firm grip, too. “If it’s all the same to you, I could make it up to ya. Kawasaki’s grub isn’t high-class, but it’s the least I could do after nearly chopping you like a log.”

Jecra resists the urge to squeak when Jack grabs his hand.

“Oh, that’s-- You don’t have to do that, it’s no big deal really. Buuuut~...” He tilts his head back and forth, pretending like he needs a moment to consider the offer. He’s already made up his mind that he definitely wants to accept. “It’d be rude of me to turn you down, wouldn’t it? I mean, food sounds great, I’m starving.”

Jecra makes a motion with a cheery, “After you!” He doesn’t want to admit he still doesn’t know where everything in town is, so he figures he can just play it off like he’d rather follow than lead. The two of them may be right by Kawasaki’s, but he sure doesn’t know that.

Number One: this guy seemed more annoyed that he’d been threatened, rather than worried. Was this a daily occurrence in Cappy Town? It sure seemed like it, what with Dedede appointing 5 different Captains of the Guard.

Number Two: he called himself Jecra. The Universal Code version of his name. Dioss was already a complex language to learn, and Jecra was usually the only word that fit into people’s heads. It was the pseudonym he’d unintentionally taken on and was known by, what with the weird conversion into opposing characters. Maybe this was just some innocent costumed onlooker.

…who he just pulled a sword on. Meta Knight would never let him hear the end of this.

“Sorry, pal. Got a little carried away,” He put his sword back in it’s sheath, but kept his hand on the hilt, just in case. “Crazy things have been goin’ on around here, and suffice to say, we’re all a little on edge. The name’s Jack.”

Ah, yes. The accent’s on full display now. Wonder how Jecra’s going to respond to that.

As Jack sheathed his sword, Jecra let go of the breath he didn’t realize he was holding. Maybe he was a little nervous about the sword to his throat after all. He folded his ears back as he relaxed a bit, stepping back from the armed man just for safety’s sake.

“Don’t worry about it, I’m used to it. There’s this guy I know, who keeps threatening me and I’ve been stabbed a time or two and--” Jecra stops himself and shakes his head, waving his hand quickly. “Never mind, that’s not important.”

He flicks his ears curiously and looks the other man over. It’s so, so strange how similar Jack looks to him, but maybe it’s just a coincidence. The galaxy is huge, surely he isn’t the only one with that messy, dirty blond hair, that violet skin, that mask, that outfit... Actually, that’s beyond weird.

Well, it’s whatever, he supposes. Weird or not, he should at least try to be friendly. Smiling brightly, Jecra holds his hand out to Jack. “Nice to meet you, Jack! Not often I see another Elven so far from home!”

Squint.

Garlude had told him that there would be some more colorful faces in town. But he hadn’t expected this. If he didn’t know any better, he’d think this was some kind of costumed performer in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What’d Tiff call it, again? Cat-ploy? Caps lay?

But the way he carries himself, the way he talks, the way he acts… it’s like looking in a mirror, except not. He feels a bit like Yamikage, perched up high in a tree and examining the guy. When the other him walked into an adjacent alleyway between Bookem’s jail and Kawasaki’s restaurant, he leapt down before him with a dull clatter and a murderous glare in his eyes. Great, now he really felt like Yamikage.

Jack raises his sword to the copy’s throat. “Who the hell are you, and why do you look just like me?”

The sudden appearance of... Himself? startles Jecra as he stops with a jolt, but the brief panic fades when the other man brandishes a sword at him. He rolls his eyes and sighs loudly. It’s too early for this.

The Elven man thinks for a moment, unsure what course of action to take in this situation. He’s not really in the proper position to run or disarm this... Double. Maybe he can talk this guy down.

“Hey, hey, chill out, no need for that. My name is Jea-- Jecra, everyone calls me Jecra,” he says, lifting his hands slowly. “I’ve been told I look like a number of famous people.” He’s laughing, but its forced, his annoyance at being threatened again beginning to show through.

“Jokes aside, maybe I should ask you the same question! I mean, I’d say you look familiar but that’d be an understatement!”

“Yes.”

Yamikage responded back, sarcastically flat in his delivery. He’d fashioned a fishing pole a while ago now. So he was fishing now. Fish was the only thing he’d eaten, other than meat. His breath would often stink of it.

Next to Yamikage there is a basket of fish, made of reed. Then there’s also some.. Tins of popcorn.

“Because anything I do is now illegal, apparently.”

Yamikage didn’t sound humored. He sounded more annoyed, like he didn’t get the joke.

“What is it you were thinking of talking about.”

It’s a command, not a question that Yamikage is trying to draw out. He has no time to be polite to Jecra.

“Well, if you’re doing illegal things, let me get in on that. Gotta spice up my life somehow.”

Jecra sits himself down near the water and looks into it thoughtfully for a moment. “I didn’t plan on actually saying anything to you. Maybe you don’t like company, but I do, so I was thinking...” He furrows his brows, searching for the right words.

“I just... Don’t like being alone. And you happened to be nearby, soooo~...”

He’s got a stupid grin. A stupid, cheesy grin and a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“You’re just gonna have to keep me company. And I’m sure you could use some company, too.”

"I don't appreciate you staring at me." Yamikage wasn't even looking in Jecra's direction and he could tell it was happening. He'd probably glanced and saw through the corner of his eye, at some point.

The blond huffs.

“I wasn’t staring. I was weighing my options. Do I want to engage in a conversation with the man who stabbed me?” Jecra asks sarcastically as he approaches the ninja. He sways slightly, tilting his head to look down at Yamikage.

“What are you up to, anyway?Somethin’ illegal?” He laughs lightly, crossing his arms.

Nightmare didn’t hear a lot of what Jecra said. The censors didn’t like swears, so he didn’t get to hear any of the colorful things coming out of Jecra’s mouth. Regardless, the sentences minus the swears is still comprehensible, so Nightmare can respond properly.

Things like ‘fuck’ were replaced with ‘fudge’, ‘dammit’ with dangit’, etc, etc.

Regardless.

Nightmare’s still rolling over himself laughing because this guy got pranked so hard and so badly it’s amazing, and then he got so mad he’s out here yelling.

“Oooh yeah, mature! Mature, mature! I don’t even see myself as mature and you’re crying like a baby! Oh Stars, you’re hilarious! You are just super funny because you’re so dumb! You didn’t even try touching the nose or anything!” Nightmare’s statement is not a compliment in the slightest because he’s laughing at rather than with.

“Man, I love harassing random strangers. I can’t get these sorts of outbursts out of Meta Knight, ooh, but if I could, man, you wouldn’t see me bothering anyone else. You’re like, a cow for laughs, and I’m just here milking you. What’s next, what should I do next to you, dude? What’s gonna make you really screech angrily? Got any suggestions? Wanna throw them out?”

Nightmare’s humored the entire time.

“I’m not crying like a baby! I’m rightfully angry! And don’t call me that, it’s not my fault I’m trusting! But I guess I shouldn’t have trusted that you’d be forward enough to actually do something to me!”

Jecra crossed his arms and huffed. All the stories he’d heard growing up about what a scary and evil person Nightmare was were like jokes in comparison to how unbearably irritating he actually was.

Was he evil? Maybe. Was he frustrating as all get out? Now, that was a definite yes.

The Elven man glares at the fiend, raising a brow as scoffs, “Meta Knight? You harass him, too? Surprising he didn’t decide to wipe you out of existence, I know I sure want to after all you’ve done already.”

He clicks his teeth and says, with an exaggerated sigh, “Ah, but you seem too cowardly to actually hurt me, so what point is there in me suggesting something?”

Nightmare sees the ears come back, and he wheezes again. He didn’t actually take Jecra’s ears. He didn’t actually give him a nose. He didn’t actually do any of those things. Jecra’d given himself new ears at his own peril, because Nightmare’d undone the illusion with a minor movement and suddenly he’d given Jecra’s ears back to him and taken the nose away without even touching this dude.

Nightmare’s very amused, though, he is super amused. Hearing the frustration and exasperation from this guy makes it even better, really. Sometimes it’s better than fear, because then he knows what he’s doing is really bothering someone to the point of anger, which Nightmare loved to see.

“OOooh my feeeelings, my ego, oooh you wound me so, four eared man.”

Nightmare theatrically whined.

“GODDESSES FUCKING DAMMIT!”

Nightmare sure got him.

Frustrated beyond belief, Jecra claps his hands over his many ears a second time, sweeping his hands back as he yells out another phrase in his native tongue. Spells of some kind it would seem. Ear magic. As quickly as they appeared, the second set of ears disappear. Weird.

“Kiss my ass! At least I’m not a fuckin’ child! How old are you? I bet my son is more mature than you!” He’s bowed up angrily. He looks like a cornered animal, puffed up and aggressive.

“You know, I always heard about how awful and evil you were and I expected shit like murder or torture or whatever! Not this bullshit!”

Jecra is acting just as childish as Nightmare, though not in the same playful manner.

He’s throwing a fit.

“Why me?!”

Nightmare laughs wildly at the command and the reaction. He thinks the entire situation is hilarious. Because of course he does, he has a very lowbrow sense of humor that’s just based off making people look ugly or stupid.

“No refunds!” He sputtered, still laughing.

Nightmare just finds it too funny. He doesn’t even know this guy and he’s so amused it’s almost shameful. Regardless, he coughs and laughs more, wheezing until he stopped.

“Okay, okay,” he wheezes again, “look, I gotta, you gotta pay for that, so I’m just gonna..”

Nightmare just pushed two hands out and without even touching Jecra, pulled them back in once they were close enough, closing them into palms.

“Got your ears.”

Nightmare looks like he’s about to lose it.

Jecra lowers his hand and moves it up to feel the spots where his ears had been.

Nothing. Nothing there at all.

“Now that’s just cruel! I need those!” Jecra yells at the other, stomping a foot and putting his hands against his sides angrily. He isn’t enjoying this little game Nightmare is playing with him.

“Whatever, I guess! Keep them.”

Jecra claps his hands over the sides of his head and shakes his head again as he puts pressure on the spots his ears had been. He mutters something in his native tongue before slowly removing his hands and...

His ears were back? He growls as he runs his fingers across them lightly, ensuring they were all there.

“If you don’t mind, I kinda like my ears and wanna keep them. You can take this thing back, though!” He taps the end of his nose. Now he’s more exasperated than scared. This really isn’t fun for him. Sighing, Jecra pinches the bridge of his nose. “If you’re trying to punk me I think you can do better. Try again, creep.”

Nightmare knows how uncommon noses are around these parts. He hasn’t seen much of any except on his human friends. Nightmare enjoys the laugh from this guy, completely unaware it’s fake. Or maybe he knows it’s fake and he enjoys how forced it is.

“Nope, not a joke,” Nightmare joked, clearly amused, “here, I’ll even put it back on you.”

Sure enough, this huge wizard ‘put the nose back on’ and.

J.. Jecra now.. Had a nose. On his face. It was there now. Was it real? Was it fake? The only way to find out was to touch it. It didn’t feel like it was even put on his face, like an object or anything, it was just as natural as an ear. It belonged there.

“There you go. I had it. See, not joking, no pranks here.”

Nightmare’s got a grin.

Jecra slowly leans his head back, his eyes crossed as he looks down his... Nose. He does an odd movement, shaking his head in a way that almost seems like he’s trying to get away from the nose. Of course he can’t and he knows this. Probably.

“What did you do to me.” The way he asks doesn’t sound like a question at all. It’s more like a demand.

His nervous habit kicks in again and he runs a finger across, rather under, his new nose. Well, that feels weird. He isn’t used to running his finger under something like that whenever he nervously rubbed at his face.

Jecra slaps a hand over the nose and frowns deeply at Nightmare, his eyes locked onto the other’s awful grin.

“Fix. Me.”

"Gotcha nose." Nightmare's doing the 'got your nose thing' with his hand too. He's got it.

Jecra blinks at the fiend in confusion. He’s stiff with fear, yet... He wants to laugh? Sorta? Maybe? He isn’t actually sure if that feeling he has in his chest is amusement or just more fear. Maybe both? He can’t tell.

“You got my...” He furrows his brow, forcing a half smile and a fake laugh. He always figured that if he met Nightmare face to face, and wasn’t in the process dying, there’d be more of a glorious battle.

Not a game of ‘Got Your Nose’.

Nervously running a finger across his actual nose in the same fashion as a certain blond boy, Jecra shuffles back a step. “Is this some kinda joke? Or a weird scare tactic before you try to turn me again?”
