katsuki bakugo x f! reader
summary: for most of your life you’d been pretty tomboyish, you always wanted to hang out with the boys and kept your hair short- you wore long shorts and baggy t-shirts and played in the mud with bugs, and you wanted katsuki bakugo to think you were cool.
a/n: literally thought of this while i was on the bus home from work today! it’s kinda ass and i didn’t proofread but i hope you enjoy it :)
“katsuki, check this out!” you said, hands clutched together as you ran over to him, your toothy grin spread from cheek to cheek.
he turned around to face you, your knees and elbows covered in dried mud, as you opened your hands to reveal a big beetle. katsuki’s eyes wandered over your smile and bright eye, his face flushing slightly red at your excitedness.
“i guess that’s pretty cool, mine’s still bigger though, see?” he smirked, holding out his net to show you an even bigger beetle wriggling in the mesh.
“no fair, you always win!” you huffed, placing your beetle onto the ground as katsuki untangled his from the net, relasing it beside yours.
“i know. we’re going to go to the park to play soccer now, are you coming?”
“mhm!” you said, following katsuki and his group of friends.
“oi, are you ready to go yet or what?” katsuki asked
“yeah yeah i’m just packing up, chill for a minute.” you responded, slipping your notebooks into your bag as fast as you could.
every wednesday, you snd katsuki went to the gym together to prepare for UA High, helping eachother train and pushing yourselves harder every week.
as you left school, talking quietly about your classes, katsuki’s eyes looked over you- your hair, short, messy, hardly reaching past the bottom of your neck, your male uniform not quite fitting correctly on your shoulders, pants gathering slightly at your ankles where they were too long, bag thrown over your shoulder without much care.
“kats, you’re staring at me, it’s freaking me out.”
“yeah, you look weird.” he said, his cheeks tinting red as he snapped his head forwards.
“uhhuh.” you mumbled, continuing to sip your juice carton as you walked beside him, “did you even hear what i said?”
“yeah. but say it again anyway.” he scoffed.
“i said, i bet i could do more pullups than you.”
“tch, maybe in your dreams.”
after your time at the gym, you made your regular stop at a convenience store along the way home, buying an orange soda to drink as you walked back through the park.
katsuki usually walked you home on evenings like this, where the sun was beginning to set before you made it back. the pair of you sat down on a bench in a quiet corner of the park, quietly watching the world pass by.
“oh, right, did i tell you that i’m going to kyoto next week?”
“hah? you’ll miss the end of middle school.”
“yeah i know, but we need to go and take care of my grandmother for a while.”
“guess i’ll see you at UA then.”
“mhm, something like that. we’ll see.”
your first day at UA was going to be… uncomfortable, considering you were going to have to wear the girls’ uniform. your general nerves didn’t help the situation either.
your hair had grown out to below your shoulders now, the longest it has probably ever been, which you had slowly began adjusting to recently, but it was a big change.
you and katsuki had kept in touch since you’d been gone, texting semi-regularly, so it would at least be nice to see him again.
you walked in to class 1-A, greeted by an intense guy named Iida, as well as a few other friendly faces that introduced themselves. and of course, katsuki, who was sitting on top of -what you assumed was- his desk.
“hi kats, it’s good to see you again”
for a moment, he just glared at you. you watched the cogs turning in his head as his eyes softened slightly, realising it was you. and you were different. so different that he almost didn’t believe it.
“when did that happen?” he asked, pointing at your hair, “thought you didn’t like it long.”
“it’s… different. but i’m getting used to it.” you said, twirling a piece of your hair between your fingers as you looked at him, “does it look bad?”
katsuki’s chest felt like it was about to explode, his cheeks timting pink as he calculated his response, averting his eyes from your face to the rest of you.
“gee, thanks.” you said sarcastically, taking your seat in front of him as the class began to settle down.
later that night you checked your phone, only to see a text from katsuki;
as the days went by, katsuki caught himself staring at the back of you during class way too often. you were just you, what changed? surely it couldn’t just be the fact that you had long hair now, right? just because you were starting to become more feminine?
after making some girl friends at UA, you began to experiment with light makeup- just a like something to ‘make your eyes pop!’ as mina said, and you were liking it. you started to like your long hair and how you looked in a skirt; you began wearing your uniform with more confidence, and actually liked to feel pretty when you got ready in the mornings.
katsuki noticed. the way your eyelashes looked fuller, the little bit of wonky eyeliner you were wearing, how they made your eyes stand out so much more when you greeted him in the morning.
on this morning in particular, you had decided to try some other makeup. you walked into school, spotting him outside by a tree, phone in hand. you jogged over to him, wanting to walk to class together.
“hey…” he said quietly, eyes immediately locking onto your lips that looked so glossy and sweet…
“you’re driving my crazy y’know.” he said, looking away from you, “i didn’t expect any of this to happen”
“huh? what are you talking about katsuki?” you asked, looking up at him.
“um.. yeah, i guess so. is that a bad thing?”
“no! i just- ugh!” he groaned, “why the hell did you have to get so damn gorgeou-” he cut himself off before he could quit finish speaking.
“say that last part again?” you smirked.
katsuki’s expression dropped, his eyes softening at you as they always had done as one of his hands cupped your cheek, the other finding its way to your back. slowly, he leaned in, eyes tender as he looked down at your glossy lips once more before planting his own on them.
his warm hands brought you closer, just for a moment before he let go.
