Which needlework house would you choose?
#1 - DMC / Christmas charts / Jobelan
#2 - Overdyed floss / Lugana / Modern charts
#3 - Aida cloth / Snarky charts / Metallic floss
#4 - Silk floss / Linen / Primitive charts
#5 - DMC Étoile / Hand-dyed linen / Spooky charts
#6 - Pre-gridded fabric / Sulky threads / Full coverage charts
Just got into cross stitching but have been following y'all forever. Was wondering if you have any good places to get needle minders? I keep losing my needle 🤦🏼♀️
We sell a few needle minders on our etsy, but our stock is running pretty low. We haven’t been able to replenish due to, well, a lot of reasons.
That being said. I (Fry) have gotten several off of Etsy, and I find that they are rather hit or miss on whether they work well or not. Much like Goldilocks, with my three purchases, I got a mixed bag. One didn’t actually magnet to the pin itself. Only to the back magnet, making the decorative part nearly useless. One is too large and round, causing the needle to grab oddly. And one is JUST right, but I can’t seem to find that shop again.
Perhaps the void has some tried and true shops?
We sell some from different designers which all seem to work just fine for us. You can check out our collection here https://starlightstitch.com/collections/needleminders
There will be some new ones added to the site pretty soon, so keep an eye out for those.
Hello now that we are trying to stay inside can you recommend a good place to get materials online? I want to support small businesses as much as I can but also social distancing. Thank you!
I (Fry) usually use Everything Cross Stitch … Except for Aida. That I get on Amazon for real cheap OR if a sale floats around elsewhere I’ll buy a ton ($7 for a yard of aida? Yes, sign me up.)
There’s also 123crossstitch but I’ve not ever used them. Joanne’s only ever cancels my orders slowly, over the course of several days, so I’ve stopped trying to order from them.
I’m sure the void also has their favorites? Plus, we’re based in the US, so YMMV on international availability.
If you’re looking for small businesses to support, consider us. We have an online store https://starlightstitch.com Our brick and mortar location is closed temporarily to try and keep everyone healthy.
We also have a Flosstube channel and may be doing weekly virtual stitch-ups to continue our in store ones in a safer way. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqXZbvXAzG3ZcgT8jRtXX_g
Also be sure to check Needle Travel for local shops (US only sorry) and see if they have an online store/will take phone orders. They cover needlework, quilting, yarn, and weaving shops.

Hello again, stitchy friends! Due to the newest recommendations from the federal government, The Starlight Stitchery will be closing our brick and mortar location until further notice. We are still selling cross stitch and embroidery supplies online! We will be shipping orders out at least once a week, on Fridays, until we are able to reopen the physical shop. We want to encourage everyone to stay safe and healthy! And if you need something to stitch while you're stuck in your house, we can help you out with that. Be sure to follow us here on Facebook. We will announce virtual stitch-ins and other online get-togethers here, as well as any updates to our brick and mortar hours. Thank you very much for your patience and continued support! Shop with us at https://www.starlightstitch.com/
Finished my Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey cross stitch design! I wish I had gone for a little more contrast in certain areas but I still like it. The photo on the bottom left is the color pallet, and the pile of thread on the right is all the threads i had to go through to make the decisions. ugh. I think you can see why i settled for the colors i did.

i thought the best way to capture this would be some historically accurate memery
OP, I’m amazed and oh so proud
I saw this pattern and knew I had to make it for my D&D party… only, the black and grey seemed a bit bland for our group… so, because we all identify as Queer, I asked everyone how they identified and added my own spin on things…
For our Pansexual Air Genasi:
For our Bisexual Dragonborn:
For our Demisexual Firbolg:
And finally, for our DM, who identifies as “A Gay Unicorn”:
With added glow in the dark detail:
I will be finishing them off in a hoop, and gifting them all to my party at our next session!!! Thank you!!!

Do you have any tips for working with metallic thread? I was a fool who decided to use it for a biiig chunk of a project, which will undoubtedly look cool but may kill me
Neither of us trifles with the devil’s asshair, but I’m sure the void has tips.
We always recommend cutting shorter lengths than you usually stitch with and using a thread conditioner.

This is my new favorite blog.
But really though.
Oh valley of plenty! But seriously, tho, toss a coin to your Stitchers. We’ve got all sorts of spiffy new stuff in the shop.

Happy Diwali to all our friends who celebrate. May your lives be as colourful, shimmering and magical as the lights of Diwali! ✨
Since this was for a charity which support transgender children, I thought I would do the border in the trans flag, the non-binary flag and a rainbow gradient…which overcomplicated it massively and meant it took over a month to complete 😅 I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, thank you for the pattern!
Jacaranda - It’s purple panic in Australia which means that if you haven’t started studying by the time the purple Jacarandas bloom you’re going to fail your finals! Another urban myth goes that if a jacaranda flower falls on your head you will fail your exams.
Yikes! Well, I hope no one reading this fails their exams, and I think your embroidery is lovely.
