Why is it everyone that sets out to rip off the Souls series fails to include any of the goofiness? Grim as the world of Dark Souls is, it can also at times be completely ridiculous. It's got mimic chests that attack you with fucking Street Fighter hurricane kicks and giant bulging bobble eyed basilisks and whatever the hell Frampt and Kaathe are supposed to be. There's a reason these games are such a rich goldmine of memes.

Even in a dead world devoid of hope there is silliness and whimsy.

I was clearing out my backlog of pose references that's been clogging my laptop storage for over a year now, and hyperfixation took over.

Next thing I knew, I was looking at two pages of fully-rendered Eileens. Not sure how that happened, but they turned out sick as hell so I'm posting them anyway. I'm a huge fan of characters with animal motifs that actually act like the animal they're inspired by, so I tried to channel some of that intense feral corvid energy.

Some of these were drawn using actual reference photos of birds striking ridiculous poses that were nearly impossible to replicate with human anatomy, but oh well. I had fun. :)

Monster Hunter is great because most of the time, there's at least a pseudoscientific explanation for how this monkey can breathe fire. And then there's the Elder Dragons. Even the scientists in the Monster Hunter world are like "we have no idea what this is or how it functions." Imagine if real animals were like that.
