I'm gonna go a bit Battat here but hear me out. I know we get a proper explanation from Ralsei about them in chapter 3 and in summary there is a lightness coefficient let's name it φ and assign it a relative 0. When φ goes below said 0 "we start seeing things, hearing things and feeling things that aren't there". From first sight it seems logical right? But why would we experience things that aren't connected to light if that was the only case?
Let me explain what I mean. When you mess with the room's brightness with music playing there or radio turned into a certain channel, you dont see any sound wave being interrupted or messed with it. Theoretically if you were to make the φ<0 condition true, you should still hear the music WHILE you start seeing things. What I'm saying is, logically dark worlds should be mute and even trickier with the touching and feeling. Obviously Lancer should be something like a ghost unless you find the playing card that resembles him, they talk to you but you hear none of it, just the music you have there playing for the theory. In other words what I'm trying to get at is that Ralsei might be hiding the true nature of the dark worlds. Now I know you might be asking "Star, you're getting way too deep into this" or "you're missing the whole point" but hear me out.
In chapter 4 a lot of areas are dark, you have to rely on sounds (specifically evil gerson statue fight) and the faint waves your footsteps make. If we rely on Ralsei's explanation, the reason we can see nothing is not because it got even darker in the dark world, instead there was a source of light that was bringing φ dangerously close to 0. Why not 0 exactly? Because the dark world was still present you could still move around in the dark world's map instead of what the real one is. "Oh Star but the gerson fight happened past 12am there was no light source" EXACTLY!! That just adds to the fact that dark world is not just messing around with the light coefficient, darks worlds are much much more than that. Might I add that in chapter 5 dark world was opened during the daylight. I dont think I have to explain why Asgore's flower shop during that time couldn't physically have φ be near 0 much less have it be negative. LET ME ALSO ADD THAT THE PRESENCE OF SUN IN THE DARK WORLD THEORETICALLY SHOULD'VE BEEN POSSIBLE ONLY IF THE LIGHT COEFFICIENT WAS AT IT'S LOWEST!!!
I'd like to add darkners seemingly living a parallel life to lightners despite a dark world not being opened. For example? Spamtenna history, or the king's scar history. Let's take king's scar story because it's more reasonable to assume that the story happened when there was no dark world, yet the playing card was sentient, it felt pain despite being a factory produced piece of paper. If Ralsei's explanation was the absolute truth, king wouldn't have this backstory, king wouldn't remember the origin of the scar, in fact king's life would only begin with the first dark fountain, spamtenna wouldn't even have their whole divorce arc so conveniently. Ffs we 100% know that dark world was not opened in dreemurr house before chapter 3 yet Tenna had whole ass life as a living being.
Darkners becoming statues when in a dark world that isnt theirs is not really a consistent thing if you think deeper about it. If that was the case the factory produced items such as tvs, computers or just plushies etc would all be petrified, their original dark world being the factories they were produced in. "But Star, they gain their personalities when they are owned." Stores. You can open dark fountain in stores they'd still have personalities according to the game logic. They could be petrified because they didnt find their dark world but if that was the case what exactly defines a darkner's dark world they belong in?
So what am I getting at with these you might ask? Dark worlds are parallel universes is what I'm getting at. It's not just darkness it's a whole ass universe. Like you know the upside down from stranger things but vastly different. The life goes on for the items just like it goes on for actual living beings. But the thing is these two universes are merged. It wouldn't make sense for them to be divided by a clear nearly unreachable border. Darkners see how lightners live and they live their own life in the way they can. Again a playing card cant just move on it's own in the light world. Lightners mainly influence darkners' lives, but they still live on their own. Think about it, if it was just a matter of light, one would need more than a knife and determination to open a dark world.

So is anyone going to talk about how Sans was the one to fill toriel's fridge after their joke marathon? Kris came back home later than 1am, and chapter 5 starts at the dawn of the next day, around 6-7am from my own understanding (if it's not late fall of course but regardless) at the time the convenience store was closed too, and Toriel's way too wasted to make a list and go get groceries. BUT we know nothing could stop Sans from doing it, he literally owns the store, technically it's not so difficult for him to pull something like this. I dont think any other explanation works, other than Sans is just so goated really.
Comic or idk animation idea: Introducing the mike trio except it's kpop demon hunters fan interview scene. Mainly because the transition from jongler fans to pluey fans would be like 99.999% similar to the transition from mira fans to zoey fans.
