Rebecca Sugar did such a great job at writing an abuse victim.
Pink (and in turn Rose Quartz) was the result of abuse and reactive abuse, Reactive abuse occurs when a person being abused reacts defensively, emotionally, verbally, or physically---after being pushed to their limit, and these reactions are sometimes misrepresented by the abuser as the victim’s fault aka victim blaming. Pink was shown to have "A scream that could crack the walls" and in SUF we see this in Steven when he shouts at Pearl and Pink Pearl about the horrible things his Mom did, and Pink CLEARLY had these outbursts'. She was childish, reckless, and immature for someone who had her status and even if she wasn't a child she WAS mentally a child in a way before starting the rebellion. And we get a more in depth cause and effect of her outbursts when we see Pink Pearls injury as a result of her scream, which cracked her eye.
The Diamonds were somewhat in my eyes an allegory for parental abuse. Yellow didn't view Pink as an equal, instead, viewed Pink as a child, someone who was immature and childlike (you'll learn to know Pink Diamond was inherently childish in someways) and in Stevonnies dream we see Pink clutching her arm and limping which putting the clues together means Yellow hurt her psychically, which is abuse.
Blue diamond, instead of physical abuse--- EMOTIONALLY abused Pink by using her powers of projecting her emotions onto Pink to make feel just as upset IF NOT more to hurt her, as they locked Pink away in a tower by herself when she misbehaved or acted immaturely which mind you is TEXTBOOK CHILD ABUSE in the form of isolation, Steven directly confronts Blue by saying “… How many times did you lock her in here? How many times did you make her cry?", I can't agree with the things Pink did, but I will defend them in the way that it was clearly the response of isolation and trauma.
Now, I'm not saying what Pink did was necessarily morally good, but you can be complex without being morally good --- also, may I add we see Pink Diamonds character development backwards during the course of the shows run.
Yellow was Neglectful towards pink's needs, and was somewhat physically abusive.
Blue was Emotionally abusive and used isolation as a twisted form of "Time Out"
White was controlling and, in a way, ALSO Neglectful, all of the Diamonds were. She clearly didn't listen to Pink.
Pink had no way to let out her anger nor her bad feelings which we see when she punches a mirror out of rage or when she has a tantrum when being refused a Colony, she had no other way than outbursts because that's what she felt she HAD TO DO.
