01. what were they doing when they passed through the portal?
courtney had been doing her usual thing of fighting bad guys and saving cities when her cosmic staff alerted her to another danger. it led her to an already opened portal, and subsequently led her through it. before she knew it, she was trapped in (parallel) new york.
02. where are they living? are they living with anyone?
courtney is kicking it alone for now, living in a teeny apartment she pays for by working multiple part time jobs. it's not much, but it is hers! maybe she'll even get a pet to fill in stripesy's role as mascot.
03. why is your character affiliated with who they’re affiliated with?
courtney is tightly affiliated with the justice society of america due to her affiliations with pat dugan, previously starman's sidekick, and receiving the former starman's cosmic staff.
04. who are their major friends, allies, and foes?
the JSA are her closest allies, next in line being other young heroes she's worked with. courtney is friends with billy batson, kara zor-el, emiko queen, tim drake, and bart allen, as well as other young heroes. her major foes include enemies of the JSA, shiv, dragon king, solomon grundy, icicle II, and the royal flush gang.
05. whose hands do they believe the country should be in?
she's someone that thinks the younger generations should be in charge. they’re the ones who have to live in it, why leave it to the older generations who already thrashed it? hell she'd run the world if she could.
06. what’s their current mental state at? their physical state?
physically, courtney is as strong as ever. she keeps up with her training at a boxing gym near her apartment. mentally, she's kind of freaking out over being transported away from her home universe. being whisked away from her family and her team is overwhelming when she’s always had them for a support system. now she’s entirely on her own and having to learn how to be a solo act. she doesn’t prefer it, which has led her to take the opportunity to build up her own team here—as soon as she manages to find her footing in this parallel version of new york, anyway.
“ Let’s just…go ahead and forget that ever happened ” MJ picking herself up. She had not mean to trip over her own shoes but she had her head stuck on her phone as she was in process of replying to someone about getting an interview for a writing report she had due soon for the Daily Bugle. “ I swear I am a bit more coordinated that. I mean I once had a dream about being on Broadway, you know. ” she said with that dream having sailed many years ago.
“already forgotten,” courtney promises, offering a hand to help the other up. she’d also been on her way into the bugle, ready to start her unofficial internship. the smile has been stuck on her face since she’d gotten the job, excited to prove herself in yet another field. she wants to make a good impression, if only for the sake of making her life easier by making friends with potential coworkers. did it still count if she wasn’t technically employed by the bugle? “broadway, huh? that’s quite a glamorous dream,” she comments, “were you a theater kid?”
america chavez is a lot of things. headstrong. a survivor. kind of a bitch but if you call her that she’ll snap your wrist. caring, above all. what she isn’t, is stupid.
“don’t think i don’t know when i’m being followed.” she says loudly, not turning around.
“it’s a good thing i’m not trying to hide,” courtney says, quickening her pace to catch up. the statement is only partially true—while she had intended to make contact, she also wanted to a bit of surveillance first. guess she’ll have to keep practicing her sneaking.
she slows when she’s side-by-side with america, offering a smile. “sorry. i just wanted to say hi—us young heroes should get to know each other, huh?”
It had been more than a few months since he, Gabby and all the rest of the blipped came back to life. The last five years had been a rollercoaster of emotions, something Logan didn’t handle well in high doses. While he had learned a lot from that time, he struggled with the though of putting it into action. Not to mention having to deal with the loss of some of the most important people in his life once again. He decided to take some extra time to try to get his head a little more right before he got back into the lives of people he cared about. Finally the day came he decided to get back to life as it was. He wandered around the city, keeping a low profile until he heard someone speak to him. “Hey.” He says while turning to give the person his attention as they spoke.
most days, courtney enjoys her job working at the kickboxing gym. she’s on her feet for most of her shifts instead of sitting around a stuffy office, whether she’s teaching classes or helping the trainers, and as a bonus she gets to use the gym after-hours for free (very nice considering the empty gym is large enough for her to practice some of her gymnastics routines). she even likes talking with the gym patrons and getting to know people. the regulars are pretty cool for the most part, and courtney is happy to have someone to talk to while she works. unfortunately, her social skills don’t go unnoticed, and have now led her to becoming the “marketing rep” for the gym. that’s how she’s ended up standing outside the gym, handing out fliers advertising new classes.
“hi there!” she calls to strangers walking by, surprised when one turns to give her their attention. she beams up at him, offering one of her patent dazzling smiles. grabbing one of the fliers, she hands it to him. “ you look like a fighter—looking for a gym? we’re offering new classes soon! and yes, we do have earlybird discounts, if that helps.”
@reshieldedstart // “ DO YOU EVER JUST wonder how people can confidently say things with their whole chest and be wrong ? it could not be me . ”
“ugh, tell me about it,” courtney groans with a roll of her eyes. “my stepdad has to be the worst at that. and i can’t even correct him! like, at least admit when you’re wrong, right?”
courtney beams with confidence as she steps through the threshold of the bugle, head held high as she walks with purposeful strides. she’s a woman on a mission, and no one is going to get in her way today. she’s here to meet lois lane—most badass investigative reporter the multiverse has ever known. after a bit of dabbling in gossip journalism (also known as exposing social media influencers’ post histories), courtney has decided she wants to get in on more the action. she’s hungry for bigger and better stories—like what new love triangle is blooming within the x-men? or which of the avengers is hiding an affair? and what better way to learn the art of uncovering a story than to shadow the very best in the business?
with a quick scan of the bugle’s main office, courtney zeroes in on her target and puts on her most dazzling smile—the same she wears when she needs to convince pat she can handle a mission without his giant mech—before marching over to the woman’s desk.
“hi mrs. lane, it’s nice to meet you! i’m courtney whitmore, i know clark?” she leans in closer, offering a knowing look and hoping lois gets it. “anyway, i heard you’re in the market for an intern?”
the skies are overcast as courtney pushes her way through new york’s bustling streets—not ideal for outdoor filming, but luckily courtney had other plans for today’s vlog. after pushing her way down another street, she finds the place she’s looking for: a little specialty tea shop standing as a peaceful getaway from the rush and chaos of the rest of the city.
before stepping inside, courtney readies her new canon camera (an extravagant purchase, especially the size of her current paychecks), angling it at her own face as she presses record. “hey guys, welcome back to my channel! today, i felt like trying a new tea shop, and i heard this one is the best in new york. i haven’t found a tea shop better than my favorite spot in los angeles yet, so i’m excited to see if this shop deserves my star of approval! let’s check it out!” she flashes a bright smile at the camera before cutting the recording, then takes a moment to record a separate video of b-roll footage outside the store. satisfied, courtney finally steps into the shop.
she takes a moment to assess the store, instantly knowing she picked the perfect place to film. the décor was like an instagram influencer’s heaven, and the tea displays and dessert case are an aesthetic dream. camera in hand, courtney steps up to the counter and smiles at the cashier. “is it okay if i film in here? i promise i’ll buy a lot.”
brows lift in confusion, and he goes as far as looking around to make sure she’s not talking to someone else. “ noh-varr does not sound like brand of cereal. it’s cool, unique, a very popular name in hala. was the most popular baby name of 2002 too. ”
she scoffs, offering a disbelieving smile. she didn’t mean to strike a nerve, but it wasn’t like she could stop herself either. “uh-huh. it sounds like a space-themed knock-off of lucky charms. very cool.”
courtney wrinkles her nose in a failed attempt not to visibly cringe. “has anyone ever told you that your name sounds like the world’s worst off-brand cereal?"
