Silk Camisole (Polish/Hungarian style), early 17th century What did men in the 17th century wear when the days got colder? While many wore over-shirts made of wool or quilted silk, some men wore fashionable knitted silk Camisoles - just like this beautiful example which is lined with silk and adorned with over 50(!) buttons. The front is decorated with horizontal rows of trim, imitating the popular Hungarian and Polish fashion of the 16th and 17th century. Exhibited at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nürnberg, Germany
Doublet and breeches of Elector Christian II. of Saxony, 1607/1609 Blue silk suit of Elector Christian, worn in the years before his death in 1611. The breeches are lightly padded to provide stability and help them to keep their shape. The pockets at the front are fake, the actual pockets are worked into the side seams. The accessoires that once rounded off this suit (gloves, cloak, sash, stockings etc.) didn´t survive - most likely, they were reused after the Elector´s death. Currently exhibited at the SKD in Dresden, Germany
