Prompt for the shirbert week: ball
It should be me
(Shirbert week - day four)
To celebrate the end of the school year and to mark graduation, Miss Stacey had managed to convince the committee to hold a ball in the town hall. It had been decorated with streamers and flowers and the finest orchestra in Avonlea. Everything had gone into this to make it the best night for Avonlea’s youth.
Anne could barely contain her excitement as she and Diana entered. Matthew had even bought her a new dress for the occasion despite Marilla’s complaints of him spoiling Anne (but secretly she was proud of everything Anne had achieved).
Unfortunately, the ball was not what Anne was expecting. She had hoped for a grand moment where heads turned as she walked in, but so far no one had even looked around. Except for one person that Anne didn’t see, Gilbert.
Instead, Anne found herself stood on the outside watching everyone dance. Josie Pye had smugly grinned at Anne as she walked by arm in arm with Billy Andrews - as if Anne was supposed to be jealous she was with Billy Andrews ?
“Wouldn’t want to end up an old maid.” Josie had said the other day, turning her nose up at Anne. She’d refused to let Josie Pye get the better of her.
Diana had been swept away from her almost immediately, being asked to dance by Moody and then almost every boy in Anne’s class.
Ruby stood beside Anne, her gaze fixed on a certain boy across the room. “He hasn’t even looked over at me. Or asked me to dance.”
Anne followed her gaze to see Gilbert stood in the corner of the room, talking to one of the other boys. “I’m sure he just doesn’t feel like dancing.” She shrugged, trying not to think about the fact that she also hasn’t been asked by anyone to dance.
“Isn’t this marvelous?” Diana appeared before them, cheeks flushed from dancing.
“It is if you’re asked to dance.” Ruby sniffled, folding her arms.
Diana put her hand on Ruby’s arm reassuringly, “Don’t worry, it’s still early.”
Anne’s eyes grew wide with worry as she caught sight of Charlie Sloane walking towards them. She’d been purposely avoiding him throughout the school year, for some reason he had become fond of her and kept trying to speak to her or sit near her whenever he got the chance. He was a nice enough boy, but he was far from Anne’s romantic ideal.
“Hello, Anne.” He stood in front of her, smiling nervously.
“Hi…” she really hoped he wasn’t about to-
“Would you like to dance?”
“Uh…” she panicked looking over at Diana and Ruby who were smiling encouragingly.

Mr. Phillips: Now, I know how daunting a new school year can be, so if anyone is feeling anxious, or stressed, or you just want to chat- please, please, do not come crying to me.
Gilbert: the french have given us good things like french toast
Diana: french toast
Jerry: me
Anne: a guillotine
Anne, clenching her fists: fight me
Gilbert, standing behind her, shaking his head, holding a knife: [mouths] do not
imagine if gilbert asks anne to dance in a really courteous way like “miss shirley, will you do me the honor of dancing with me?” and he bows his head down and offers her his hand and she just rolls her eyes and laughs and takes his hand
Nate: *calls Jerry 'little frog'*

How the dynamics between Blythe-Lacroix family and Anne could play out this season.
I posted earlier about the likeness between the tempers of (Anne and Bash) & (Gilbert and Mary) in this post. So moving forward, my expectations for how the four would work out in a confined space, are:
Mary and Gil becoming confidants, teaming up to troll Bash and take each others’ sides all the time.
Gilbert being extra worried for Mary as she goes through her pregnancy (or god forbid an illness) It could play well with Gil never having had a sister figure and now he does (yay)
Make no mistake, Gilbert is no fool to discuss his love-life with Bash of all people, he wouldn’t live to see another day. So he turns to Mary, who provides him great insight into the girl psyche and gives excellent lady advice.
Bash, sensing he’s outnumbered in his own house, befriends Anne promptly. They’re kindred spirits after all, so alike in demeanor and attitudes. So when she visits, I can see them laying out their plan of action, while giggling like kids.Good stuff.
Bash has no clue about babies, having spent his life at sea. Anne teaches him small things he should do to impress Mary that he can handle the baby. Gil’s jealous obviously lmao.
Bonus: Mary and Bash, secretly working incognito to knock some sense into Shirbert by any means necessary. These include, leaving the baby alone with Shirbert and going out to “run urgent errands”. Really, I’m not even kidding, a Babysitting scene would clear my skin and also increase me life-span by 20 yrs hkjfsggall.
Miss Stacey : When you answer the phone, what do you say?
Billy Andrews : What up?
Moody Spurgeon : Who this be?
Gilbert Blythe : No, he's dead. This is his son.
