I know I'm preaching to the choir here and borrowing a bit of trouble within minutes of the plot beat furling out, but I gotta let The People's Court know that will defend back and forth Matt's decision that Julien abandons Teor to his fate. I'm a huge Teor stan, which I mention so you really understand here what I'm saying when I'm saying this is an incredible decision from Matt and I will fight tooth and claw for it. It makes perfect sense. When Brennan reminds Julien of what his mother asked, there was no way he was going down those stairs unless Thjazi his shadow somehow gained the strength to bodily toss him down them. It makes absolute shining crystal clear sense. There is no other decision to make without harming continuity and integrity of character at this time.
I know there's a joke in Cooldown that was posted before the episode about who the internet would be most mad at this episode, but when sincerely not-joking imagining that possibility, I'm very much of the believe that like one has gotta be a complete dumbass and thoroughly lacking in story sense to be angry at Matt for this.
Does it have consequences? Yes, catastrophic ones. Does it cohere with the character and story Matt is carrying right now? Absolutely. Is it the most compelling and interesting story Matt could be telling right now? I'd say so. I cannot comprehend how someone would hold it against him.
Say what you will about Julien's choice, but it was not "cold" like his choice not to warn Teor about the Mercanauds. It was an act of warmth for his living family, against his first instinct to throw himself at his dead family. I don't read it as ironic for Teor to think in his last moments that Julien is a better man than he realizes. Julien gave Teor the axe that was his best means to protect himself, and made zero fuss about his use of Callowyn's bracers despite knowing Callowyn had a will and those bracers rightfully belonged to someone else. Julien was also open to seeing Koral as a victim like Occtis until he realized Koral was vulnerable not because his family mistreats him, but because he got himself cursed in the process of cursing Alba and destroying the Golden Orchard.
All for some damn gnomes, which is actually such a great story beat showing the cost of heroics. In trying to help a kind old man who helped them, Teor died. He didn’t die for a stupid reason, he died for one of the most genuinely noble reasons one could. It’s just too bad he rolled a 13 and not a 15.
Happy Moon Landing Day!
To be so clear I don't expect this and have several far more reasonable pitches for a new Travis character and I'm not sure Brennan would even allow this. But consider: Hound of the King sent as personal envoy from Timmony. Get even FARTHER from regular human. Cause problems on purpose and refuse to do shit because you don't have opposable thumbs.

Okay but it'd be so funny if Thjazi was looking for a way to avoid the Tachonises but was kind of winging it once he realized he needed to die, and then Julien spat on his body and invoked an old orcish curse, and Thjazi saw his chance like, "You thought my days of being the funniest motherfucker in Aramán were over? Think again, motherfuckers."
Actually, can we talk about the combat structure in Obrimus Manor? Three distinct scenarios happening simultaneously, on the same initiative. I've long wanted a way to see in actual play the kind of cutting between fights that you'd get in a cinematic context, where the tension is emphasized by pulling away from one scene at the height of action to cut to another, and this genuinely achieved it, particularly as all three influenced and informed each other without being too interdependent or even without significant if any metagaming. What a cool way to run a set of encounters simultaneously in nearby but not the same locations. Keeping them all in the same initiative even while in disparate corners of the house really allowed for the dramatic irony to compound as the dungeon combat went so poorly, as Julien wavered, as the team in the aviary escaped. It's such a simple way to handle simultaneous combat, but it feels really affecting because you see it so rarely and the combats themselves were so dire.
Percy having the “is this going to be forever??” reaction to getting high for the first time was spot on character work for the cartoon, no notes.
