Hey everyone! Strange personal post rn.
WARNINGS: Sad, loss of a pet, spirits.
So the weirdest thing just happened now I'm bawling. For context, it's believed that my family live in a haunted area, nothing too out of the blue has happened to solidify my belief of spirits. Well.. before today anyway.
Around the early months of 2022, I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 20(+?) years, a bicolour cat my mother had gotten shortly before my birth. I felt alone as I was the one to say goodbye to my best boy and a part of me shattered that day.
Anyway, fast forward to now, another part of my family lives a few doors down, in another supposedly haunted house. They are away so this evening I went to visit their cats. Now one is the real life version of Garfield, and the other is also a bicolour cat who was rescued from abusers. Why am I telling you this? Well she has never allowed people to touch her, she is a miserable but now well cared for animal.
I found her curled up on a bed and she immediately hissed and backed up at the sight of me. This isn't unusual for her so I sat myself at the end of the bed. I started to talk about my late baby, about how much I missed him and hoped he was ok. To my complete surprise, she moved towards me and turned into a completely different cat, I'm not even exaggerating it was the friendliest interaction I've ever had with an animal besides my own. A pure wave of joy rushed through me and it wasn't until she had her head in my lap that I realised she had been repeating the actions of my darling boy.
This cat who only stuck around for food and a warm bed had circled me and headbutted my elbows, nuzzled my chin and nose and rested her paw in my hand. I used to hold my cats paw in my hand. Whenever he was near me, one of his paws would be tucked into my hand. All these sudden acts of affection (all done with eagerness and enthusiasm) had been behaviour from my friendly bestie before he passed.
As I broke down with her still in my lap, she just stared at me. And I knew for the first time since I said goodbye that he was ok. He was ok and was sitting with me. I'll be forever grateful for the affection that miserable cat showed me, for I'm certain she was helping my boy talk to me, even if it was just one last time. 🤍🕊
