win the shark over | {x}
Give him distance.
Samekichi’s a difficult shark; he needs his own waters and territories, and the more someone tries to force themselves towards him, the more he tends to push them away, especially if unprovoked or with little motive behind it. If he feels harassed, he’ll be openly vocal about it; there’s no need to fear “accidentally” upsetting him or Samekichi keeping more of his feelings to himself. Don’t let him grow too distant, but allow him to have the option to take his own time away from you. For example, instead of showing up uninvited, let him know ahead of time that you’d like to visit him and let him decide when. Instead of toting him along, let him have a say in rather or not he wants to go somewhere- not following this can make him snappy and definitely lose his drive towards you.
Compliment him.
He’s difficult, but he’s a dork. The second you give him an honest compliment, his face will light up- and certain expletives might be the response. If he’s not finding it endearing, you’ve lost a lot of chance with him; comments on certain things (him being short in a negative sense, for example, or belittling him) will immediately make him push you further away. He doesn’t want to be called cute; he wants to be treated as independent but loving.
Help with little things.
Don’t ask if he needs help; he’ll take it as an insult (”what the hell do you mean? I can manage just fine on my own”). If he’s struggling to lift a box, gently take up the other side; if he’s tired, bring him a blanket and lead him somewhere safe. Don’t take huge leaps- for example, tending to wounds without asking beforehand- but assure him that yes, he can get help, and no, it doesn’t make him weak and useless.
For every "♡" I get I'll give a tip on how to win my muse's heart.

Five..?
The demon took another glance around the small house, entirely unable to stop the incredulousness that spread over his features, however rude he felt like it was. Five people, in this tiny place? How did they manage? How did they breathe? How did anyone ever have any semblance of personal space?
Well– tonight would sure be interesting.
“You were perfectly fine, believe me,” Teo laughed, shaking his head with a sheepish smile. “You needn’t worry about that. I must admit I’m used to somewhat worse, especially from strangers… demonkind has a few unpleasant prejudices.” He waved his hand, batting the idea away as quickly as it had come. “I won’t bore you with any details. But you’ve nothing to worry about.”
His eyes were still bright with excitement as he followed the shark back out the door. What a strange place this was! He was very enthusiastic when it came to seeing more of it. With any luck his little bit of tourism could turn into a far longer escape than he’d originally planned, if only because he might actually know where he was going. And he was all too willing to let Samekichi guide him around for the day. One always got the best tours from locals, after all– and sure, his impromptu guide was a bit gruff, but… somewhat endearingly so.
“I still must repay you somehow, you know. I’m sure one of us will come up with something… can’t just mooch all your time from you, now can I? Not without some kind of payment. I really don’t want to be any trouble.” The last time he took a free place to sleep with nothing in return, it ended badly for everyone. He doubted that it would come to that kind of ending with this familiar, but he certainly didn’t want to take any risks if he could help it.
He changed the subject as his brightly polished shoes crossed the threshold.
“So– tell me more about these islands of yours! Am I thinking of the right sort of island, or do you mean something else? I really haven’t any substantial experience on the matter.” Teo chuckled at himself– he wasn’t entirely sure why he’d decided to run off here, of all places. Maybe because it was such an extreme difference to Hell. “It might sound odd to you, but for the last few hundred years the largest body of water I’d seen was a river. Seas are something of a novelty.”
He was still looking at everything around as he followed Samekichi dutifully– but he looked at Samekichi too, with some interest. A familiar, hm? And he didn’t mind it? How did that relationship go?
“I’d say it’s just about time to get my feet wet again.” The tall demon laughed softly at his own joke. “So to speak.”
The longer Samekichi thought of it, the less his highly... pristine appearance lead him to thinking any higher of him. Perhaps it was due to never meeting anyone outside of the seas himself. He knew their little home was fairly small, the more he thought of it, but he couldn’t find home anywhere else where he’d be half as happy. He didn’t feel any bit obligated to feel intimidated by the other’s neat and elaborate character, or even his height. Although a tiny, tiny piece of him remained wary and wouldn’t let the other wander off more than a few feet from him at any time, he couldn’t find any sort of reason to fear Teo.
“You look surprised. But we’re all too busy to stay in the house, I should add there. We’re only in here to eat, sometimes, sleep, and other small things. You won’t catch more than one person in here at a time, otherwise, if even that. I just stayed behind today.” Samekichi’s thoughts were a little too scrambled to go with anyone that day; he’d spent the majority pondering over his experiences. Teo’s arrival was a blessing, in the least- he wouldn’t have to consider all the small details of his past. “All of us have the job of protecting this sea, and y’can’t do that just from one house. So, forgive me if I come off... paranoid. People like you don’t come around. Know you’ve had worse in the past, but you’ll find the sea welcoming as long as you have pure intentions.”
And if not, Samekichi hadn’t had the grand feeling of fighting anything off in a while- and surely, it’d bring up horrid memories, but he couldn’t help but wonder what demon might taste like. Did they even bleed? Was it really flesh to bite through? It’d be interesting, in the worst case, and Samekichi felt confident enough with himself in both the fact that he’d judged this demon as polite enough and subduing him if he went against it.
Then again, he’d rather just have the friendly company.
“Well, whatever. I’m not surprised at all. You’re from Hell, for fuck’s sake- I doubt there’s as much water down there as there is here, especially from how you described it before,” Samekichi said, shoulders falling and taking a deep breath. His feet dragged as he moved, hands loosely in his jacket pockets as he led the other out into the town. “Though, as word of recommendation- try not to stand out anymore than you already do. Don’t know if y’being a demon is going to get you the best reputation in town, no matter how nice we all are.
“As for the islands... we’ve got some peppered around the sea. Just in these certain spots. Got one that grows starfruit- it’s a fan favorite- another just for windmills, another for grieving for the dead, one full of hydrangeas... there isn’t too many... details to all of ‘em here. They’re just- here. Nice to visit, but I’d rather stay in the water, thank you.”
Awkwardly, Samekichi glanced over at the demon. He hadn’t considered how he was going to transport the demon out towards any of the islands- he used to simply take Wadanohara himself on his back, and he knew there’d be enough room for the demon too, but...
“...I hope there’s a ship out there for us.” Chances are, with the other familiars and Wadanohara gone, they had taken the ship- and Samekichi’s face warmed and he rubbed his arms awkwardly as they approached the sea’s gate, past the crab soldiers on guard. “...And they don’t.”
“Can demons walk on water?” Samekichi had no clue- he doubted it- but perhaps? “If not, I know a good way to get us ‘round, but you’ll have to deal with it being unconventional. You ever ridden on the back of a shark?”
