I just finished sense8 and I found this page because I love Wolfgang so so much and I’m so glad u and others are annoyed at the ending of kalagangs storyline?? It’s so annoying?? Why did the writers try to end it pleasing everyone?? Rajan was so bloody boring and annoying, it was so so so clear that kala didn’t love him that it was just the societal expectations for her that made her stay with him, I’m so angry because I love this show so much and this is how it ended without true love dyyahsuwh
I feel your frustration. I’ve been dealing with mine since I watched the special. I feel really bad that you joined the fandom while it’s in its current state.
In my opinion, annoying is a mild way to describe the special tbh and while there are things that were included just to please fans, the Kalagang storyline was not one of them. That was just Lana making a statement regardless of whether or not it made sense.
● The finale became all about representation to the point where it no longer felt inclusive despite it having plenty of rep and was hardly lacking.
● There was sexual orientation erasure for Kala, Lito, and Hernando. Kala was always portrayed as demisexual, a person who is incapable of sleeping with someone they don’t have a strong, deep emotional connection to, hence why sex with Rajan always seemed like a chore. Then you have Hernando and Lito, both gay men, sleeping with a woman, Dani.
● Unnecessary scenes that were pure fan service, the screentime of which could have been used to fatten the plot. The finale could’ve done without the Lacuna scene, the song bit, as well as the wedding (which was all about Lana giving her own representation all the time it needed while leaving others behind) and the orgy which lost all its metaphorical sense when non-Sensates took part and became just a well-shot sex scene.
● Also, let’s not forget how out of character many Sensates were to the point that I started feeling Lana had given other writers, who never watched seasons 1 and 2, broad ideas about what to write while she took little part in the process herself.
● Of course, the Kalagang plot twist that makes no sense if you compare it to the previous 2 seasons makes the list of “What the hell” moments in the special. Kala never loved Rajan so calling it a love triangle is wrong. Her struggle was never about choosing one man over the other, but rather between her duty towards her family and society, and herself in the form of Wolfgang. She represented brown women who wanted to see their representation break out of a marriage she never wanted, but they were all invalidated. Add to that how Paris was originally all about Kalagang, but Lana decided to push these two beyond their character arcs and give Paris to Nomanita instead.
● Speaking of Nomanita, which is a couple I love, I believe Nomi deserved so much better than to be acceped as Nomi only after Janet ate a pot brownie. She deserved a more heartfelt moment than that comical one.
● There are also continuity issues, but I’ll let those pass.
You will find most are defending Lana to the death as though she’s not human and prone to make mistakes just like the rest of us. Don’t engage unless you have thick skin.
I’m here if you need someone to rant with, Anon. I have your back and thank you for the ask. Sorry about my long rant, but so far the Sense8 finale has been my biggest disappointment this year.
