bff!stray kids comfort you after a breakup
notes: female reader. tw for hurt/comfort. this is really just for my own comfort since i'm going through a breakup :( i'm sorry if it's repetitive at all, my brain is just mush right now.
chan: chan's been your best friend since highschool, standing by your side through every new step in your life, as well as every hardship. that includes today. you just broke it off with your boyfriend of two years. for good reasons, of course, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still feel like your heart was ripped right out of your chest. and the only place you know to go to is chan's apartment. so you walk there, your hands empty and tears in your eyes.
as soon as chan opens the door and sees your tear-stained cheeks, he quickly lets you in, sits you down on his couch, and pauses his tv show, ready to listen for as long as you need him to. he sits close, his knee pressing safely against yours. with his head in his hand, leaning against the couch cushion, he listens intently as you tell him the whole story through a wavering voice, nodding and humming in understanding.
he doesn't interrupt once, not even permeating the silence when you finish talking and just sit in your thoughts. after a few quiet minutes, he pulls you in for a hug against his strong chest, telling you that he's so sorry for what you're going through. then he offers," do you want me to get some takeout? i can get your favorite."
you pull back from the hug to look at him and consider for a moment before answering," yeah... yeah, that'd be nice."
chan nods and diligently pulls his phone out. when the food arrives 20 minutes later, he goes to retrieve it, then comes back to the couch to get comfortable with you again. the silence that sits between you two as you eat is comforting in its own way. you may have lost your boyfriend, but at least you know chan will always be here. "thank you, channie."
"of course. it's the least i could do."
minho: truth be told, minho never really liked your boyfriend, though he never went into detail when you asked why. "because. he just seems untrustworthy," he'd say with a shrug before shifting to another topic. and every time, you told him that he's got it all wrong.
now here you are, sniffling and attempting to quickly dry your eyes. minho is watching intently. he's quiet and his eyes are sharp. but you're grateful that he isn't judging you at all, just listening. it was a very last minute thing, breaking it off with your boyfriend. you ran all the way over to minho's dorm, breathless and sobbing. he didn't ask what happened when he opened the door. he just guided you inside and sat you down at the dining table, ready to listen. admittedly, you were a little embarrassed. but he never said "i told you so", something he's known to do any time he ends up being right.
there's no familiar smirk on his face. just a blank, hard expression. he'd never admit to it, but he's incredibly protective of you. has been ever since you both met through a mutual friend a few years ago. so hearing about the argument that ended up causing you so much pain, it makes his chest tighten with anger. he doesn't say anything about it, though. once you've finished talking, finding no more words to say, you sigh and lay your head in your hands. minho stares down at his own hands, thinking.
finally, he says," i'm sorry, y/n. i know i was always harsh about him in the past.. but i never wanted to be right."
you look back up at him and slowly nod, sniffling again. he continues," you must be exhausted. i can drive you home. you get your rest, and tomorrow we can hang out all day, okay? get your mind off of everything."
that sounds like a good idea.
"you do owe me gas money, though."
changbin: the moment he opened the door and saw tears brimming your eyes, your dramatic best friend gasped like he just witnessed a car crash, and yanked you inside to ask you what happened. and as soon as you said the words "we broke up", you were yanked again, into his arms for a tight hug. he smelled of body wash and a little bit of leftover kimchi rice. he smelled of home.
you've just finished telling him everything with a sigh. your eyes are puffy and hot, a headache starting to form behind them. crumpled up tissues surround your lap, one sitting in your hand as you squeeze it like a lifeline. changbin shakes his head and looks away, sighing as well. "what an asshole," he mumbles.
you chuckle. not because it's particularly funny, but because it's true.
he looks back at you, and you look at him. everything is still for a moment. soon he opens his arms to you, beckoning you for another hug. you oblige right away, scooting over and slotting perfectly into his arms. your hug lasts a while, comfortable and warm.
"do you want me to beat his ass?"
you burst into a fit of soft giggles. that caught you off-guard. changbin chuckles too, pulling back a little to look down at you," what? i'm being serious. i'll happily beat him up for you."
you giggle again. "as much as i appreciate that binnie, i'd rather you didn't get arrested for assault."
leave it to changbin to be able to make you smile in a moment where you didn't think you ever would again.
hyunjin: hyunjin drove over as soon as he ended the call with you. even through the phone's low speaker quality, he could hear the tremble in your fragile voice as you asked him to come over. and when you open the door to him, your lip trembling and your nose red, hyunjin's heart breaks. he just hates seeing you this way.
he walks in, gets settled on the couch with you, and listens closely as you vent about the day's events. your boyfriend missing your calls, you reaching your limit, the hard discussion you both had when he finally called back just to tell you he's heading to the gym instead of spending time with you. it's all so awful, you can't help but break off regularly to sob and hide your face. hyunjin watches with worried brows, unsure if he should say anything or if he should give you your space to grieve.
eventually he sighs and settles for placing a large, gentle hand on your lap, remaining quiet but letting you know he's there for you. and after several minutes of silence, he carefully poses a question," y/n? would you like me to stay for the rest of the evening?"
you nod quickly, wiping your eyes incessantly as the tears don't seem to stop. you yearn for the comfort of your nearest and dearest friend.
so you both relax on the couch, getting ready for a long evening. hyunjin pulls out his phone to show you the most recent pieces he's painted, talking so that you don't have to. you can just listen and allow yourself to feel what you need to.
"what do you think? i can gift this one to you if you like it."
jisung: you and jisung have been best friends since middle school, and when you eventually began dating your boyfriend, you would all hang out together fairly regularly. jisung would get along with him pretty well, going so far as to hang out with him one-on-one occasionally. it made you happy seeing two of the boys you loved bond together like that.
so the day you showed up at his dorm, crying and tugging at the sleeves of the cardigan that was given to you by your ex just a few weeks prior, he was in shock. he never would've expected this to happen. his best friend in the whole world breaking up with his new friend, upturning everything. and now that everything is said and done, your throat sore from crying and talking for a couple hours, you look up to see tears running down jisung's chubby cheeks.
surprised, you say softly" oh no, sungie... oh, i'm so sorry. i know you were getting close with him-"
he cuts you off, pulling his shirt sleeve up to wipe his eyes," no, it's not that. i couldn't give less of a shit about that asshole if i tried. it's just... i know how much you love him. and i hate seeing you hurt like this."
he looks up at you with wet eyes, and you smile sadly in return. you scoot in closer, leaning against his broad shoulder as he begins playing with the tips of your hair. everything is silent for a moment.
"should i invite the kids over?"
that's how felix, seungmin, and jeongin come to hear the news and drop everything to head over.
"jeongin said they're bringing ice cream. mint choco is still your favorite, right?"
felix: felix has always been gentle, since the first day you met him. that's what drew you to him so quickly. his sincere eyes, his mellow (albeit deep) voice, his sweet, genuine nature. that's exactly what you needed after breaking up with your boyfriend; over the phone, no less. he couldn't even bother to face you in person for such an important conversation. heart broken, you drop by felix's place. you feel a little guilty coming by unannounced, but you felt no where else was better to go than here.
felix answers the door with a bright smile, but it drops the second he realizes you're crying. "y/n? y/n, what's wrong?" he pulls you inside and into his arms, his voice full of worry. still, it comforts you to hear it. through broken sentences you manage to tell him about what happened.
"oh you poor thing.." he says, his sad eyes pouring deeply into yours. it's shocking, honestly. you two seemed so happy together. he had no idea things were this bad under the surface.
"come on," he continues as he leads you to the couch," i'll put the tv on for us. how does adventure time sound? i made some cookies too. they've been cooling for about 10 minutes now. would you like some?" felix's cookies sound heavenly right about now.
"yes please," you say through stuttered breaths. you slowly curl up on the couch, wiping your nose. he nods and puts on the desired show, before heading to the kitchen to bring back a big plate of chocolate chip cookies. he then sits next to you, draping his arm securely around your shoulder as you both watch the tv.
"everything's going to be okay. maybe not today or tomorrow, but it will. you'll see."
seungmin: you need to get out of the house. after breaking up with your boyfriend, staying in this place feels so overwhelming. it's like you're being suffocated by all the painful emotions filling the room. so you call your best friend, asking him to please come pick you up. and he does just that. seungmin's always been sarcastic and blunt. the type to bully you because that's just how he shows he loves you. but when he heard your shaky voice, all of that went out the window.
when you slip into the passenger seat and begin telling him what happened through tears, he listens. his face is soft and sympathetic, his fingers gently fidget with a thread hanging out of his shirt. by the time you finish venting, you're breathless and so, so tired.
seungmin isn't the physically affectionate type, and he's always felt awkward when trying to comfort others. yet he can't help but reach out and squeeze your hand reassuringly. he doesn't say anything, but he doesn't need to. just having him here is enough.
once you've calmed down, your cries turning to soft sniffles, seungmin finally speaks. "do you want to go for a drive and listen to some music?" he knows you well.
you nod and respond simply," yeah..."
so you two go driving around town, with no set destination in mind and seungmin's playlist on shuffle.
jeongin: oh he's angry. really angry. how dare that asshole hurt you the way he did? if anything, you were out of his league and doing him a favor by dating him. he should've been grateful.
jeongin begins ranting angrily once you've finished explaining what happened. and honestly, you can't help but smile a little. it's sweet how your best friend is so protective over you. normally he'd tease the hell out of you if you even suggested such a thing. but now, when he sees you're in pain, he doesn't even try to hide it. he just talks about how he should've beat that guy's ass the moment he saw his douchey smile, and how you deserve so much better than him.
eventually you reach over to squeeze his strong forearm, saying," innie, it's okay. he's gone now. we never have to think about him again. at least i don't want to."
jeongin's face softens, and he places his hand on top of yours. "i know it hurts, y/k.. but trust me, you're so much better off now. you'll find someone better for yourself one day, when you're ready. right now though, you just need to focus on yourself."
he turns to face you fully and continues," in fact, how about we have a self-care night? face masks, takeout, cartoons, we can even paint each others' nails. what do you think?"
"that sounds amazing right now. thank you, innie."
"let me try my new clay mask on you. hopefully you're not allergic.. i guess we're about to find out."
