Christmas Cheer - Family Style

Last December, Seattle Tacoma Box Company supported Vine Maple Place for our Christmas Giving. Vine Maple Place utilizes a unique and innovative approach to meet the needs of homeless families. Recognizing that there is a path that leads to homelessness, we strive to meet families wherever they are in their crisis, toxic stress and trauma. As a team, parents, volunteers and staff work collaboratively to implement a custom action plan that emphasizes each family members' strengths, assets and challenges. STB employees donated a total of 30 gift cards for basic needs assistance, along with 6 warm coats, 1 pair of winter boots, and 14 towels and over $1,000 in direct financial donations!   

The company matched each gift card donation with a $25 donation and matched payroll deductions dollar for dollar!   More good news, a third party donor to Vine Maple Place also matched all donations made during December so all of our contributions were tripled in impact!

Throwback Thursday to July 1964 in Seattle Box's home in the Industrial District of Seattle, which is now considered SODO.

Can you recognize the business next door to us that has been lighting up lives in Seattle since 1910? Love to hear if you do!

Both these company founders were revolutionary pioneers of Seattle in the early 1900's and proudly still in operation for over 100 years.

Our annual company tournament was this last weekend and it was one for the books!! We are blessed to have days filled with sunshine, delicious food, golfing and building lifelong relationships with our wonderful customers and vendors.

We also had a record setting year for donations raised to support local organizations! Part of our mission to continue to support the areas we have been a part of for the past 130 years.

Thank you to our incredible volunteer staff for all your hard work to prepare for these events and for everyone who came in from out of town or other areas of the state, your relationships are part of what makes this company so fun to be a part of!

Happy International Box Day!

For 130 years of company has been providing boxes in all shapes, sizes and application. We were founded in providing wooden crates to local farmers and fisherman, but since 1889 the wood division has evolved to also include storage vaults, specialty wine and other commodities.

Corporately we have evolved to include a corrugated box plant and a polypropylene corrugated carton plant. All these divisions are founded with providing excellent service and quality products to all customers. 

As a founding family member once said, "nothing but the best is good enough for our customers". We are proud to be an independent box plant operating under the same family management for over a century and are excited for what innovation will come in the next.

South Sound students Gabrielle Jones, Justin Miller and Keely Prawitz each received the Nist Family Scholarship that celebrates high-school seniors for their commitment to community involvement, their demonstration of leadership and tenacious drive towards future aspirations. These students have shown passion in their community and school involvement, self-growth in leadership opportunities and persistence when faced with adversity. We are proud to reward these students for their commitment and excellence as rising leaders within their generation.  

“We saw as a family it was time to grow into something larger that will go on for many generations” were inspiring words spoken by one of the company’s owners, Mike Nist, regarding the establishment of this scholarship fund. In 2019, Seattle-Tacoma Box Company celebrated their 130-year anniversary under the same family management, which has spanned six generations. Our founding patriarch Jacob Nist deeply valued liberality and a spirit of benevolence when it came to any deserving cause. As a family, the Nist’s continue to carry that legacy into future generations.

The mission of the Nist Family Scholarship Fund is to support, promote and encourage the educational pursuits and goals of individuals directly associated with Seattle-Tacoma Box Company and associated companies, SeaCa Packaging and Commencement Bay Corrugated, with scholarship funds to help support the building of future generations.

Spring is definitely here as we took a visit to one of our legacy customers, EG Richter Family Farm! These founding families have been doing business together for over three generations and continue the strong relationship to this day.

We may be bias, but don't they have one of the best views in the entire country? Especially with those boxes and fresh rhubarb!

It started in her garage. Now, a Puyallup woman helps clothe almost 1,500 foster kids a year

In 2011, Erika Thompson started the Wishing Well, providing free new and lightly used clothing and toys for Pierce County foster kids. The operation has a large storefront on Pacific Avenue in Parkland.

This past Christmas we partnered with a wonderful charity called the The Wishing Well Foundation (WA) where a local Pierce County woman saw an opportunity to provide for foster children in need and launched this wonderful organization. Thank you Erika for your passion, innovation, and commitment to our community. We are proud to help sponsor your efforts!

Christmas Giving Recap

We would like to extend a belated thank you to everyone for your generous support of the 2018 STB Christmas Giving program!  Last December, we partnered with The Wishing Well Foundation, a community-based support agency that is focused on the well-being of foster youth in Pierce County. Their mission is to provide the clothing, supplies and experiences unavailable to most foster kids and to retain quality foster homes in Pierce County by addressing financial barriers to accepting foster placements.  

STB employees generously donated 65 gifts, 24 stocking stuffers, and $350 in payroll deduction donations for children in foster care.  The Company provided $1,348 in matching funds/ gifts so that each child could receive two beautifully wrapped presents!   A special thank you to our holiday helpers who shopped for and wrapped the gifts!

Thank you so much for your incredible generosity and for making a difference in the lives of local children.

The Nist Family Fund was able to donate their first grant this year to the Wishing Well Foundation out of Puyallup, Washington. They are a wonderful organization that help support Foster family and children in the greater Pierce County area who are truly making a difference within their community.

Celebrating the Past & Looking Forward to the Future: 2019

As we look forward to the New Year we are extremely grateful for the opportunities that 2018 have brought us & the challenges that have made us better, but we are eager to see what 2019 has in store for us. A few things we do know and are thrilled to share:

- Seattle-Tacoma Box Company turns 130 years old in 2019 and still under the same family management since inception in 1889. A very special accomplishment and dear to our hearts!

- Our corrugated manufacturing plant installed a new corrugator that is projected to increase our production to over 1.4 billion square feet per year! This new addition will make Commencement Bay Corrugated one of the best plants of its kind west of the Mississippi. 

- We started a Scholarship fund to help invest in the future generation of children and grandchildren of our employees. We are ecstatic for this opportunity to give back to the community. For those eligible they can find the application on our Community Outreach page.
