edward nigma had, once again, gotten himself captured. he always imagined batman with a PUZZLED, doltish look plastered on his face & forgot how smart he truly was. ed always imagined himself over batman’s dead body, finally attending his coronation as the king of gotham, but never assumed he’d only get captured by batman again. while he had a lot of flaws, his narcissism CERTAINLY blinded the puzzle prince the most. even with a bloody nose, 12 new bruises (not that anyone was counting), and three broken ribs, he laughed while in the superhero’s hold. after a brief fit of coughing he followed with,
❝ i see, my boisterous buddy, you lack the intellect to even form an appropriate answer?? well, god certainly did that once- he made ME- but after seeing how BRILLIANT i was, he decided it was best that he didn’t gift the same powers to you!! ❞
with that, he finally managed to get away from batman’s hold by slipping out of his jacket he had been secretly unbuttoning & falling through the trapdoor he was dangling over. soon only the ECHOING words he had shouted while falling were any sign the riddler had previously been there.

stanley replaced his momentary frustration with a usual smile, though he was still annoyed at himself for ever previously trusting a little girl to get hold of such an important object. of course he understood young love, but he was willing to crush ANYTHING in order to get that book. it was vital to their plans & he hoped it would even help to bring mabel some happiness down the road. family was the most valuable possession he had, but sometimes sacrifices- especially when it came to the heart- were in order.
