MARISSA:
Her friend ( or ex-friend at this point ) walking away from her without the slightest bit of acknowledgement towards her words visually broke Marissa. Everything was screaming at her to follow, lips parting to call out towards the other girl but was cut off by the sound of someone else â gaze shifting in that very direction. âAnd what would you suggest?â The brunette questioned sarcastically, a hand raising to wipe away the few tears that managed to spill from behind her lids. âI didnât realize I was putting on a show for everyone else.â
A noticeable wince flitted across Rhysâ features as the small woman allowed the floodgates to open. For someone as shameless as Rhys, it wasnât often that he felt... bad for another person besides himself, but this girl looked so fragile that heâd be the devil to kick her while she was down. âA roll in the hay?â he offered lightheartedly and proper tactlessly, a smirk tugging upward as he gathered himself to his feet and spread his arms wide in surrender. He had bad news written all over him, from the quirked brow to the combat boots. âIâm just a nosy bastard, but come on, Love. Youâre too pretty to let ugly mugs like that make you cry... Fancy a drink?â
DION:
Fiance. He knew as much from the moment his eyes caught sight of the ring on her finger, but Dion just want to openly come out and say it â well, he couldnât say it. âCanât really do much learning if all his time is being spent outside,â the male commented, chin shifting towards the door her partner had walked out of for what felt like ages ago. Her comment about life at home didnât fail to bring out a chuckle from the lips of Dion, his head nodding in agreement. After being here throughout his entire life, things always seemed to be a never ending storm of chaos; not that he minded it all too much. âNo matter how bad it might end up, which I doubt, heâd be an idiot to leave you behind,â the male said truthfully, his gaze never shifting away from those blue ones. Dion believed the words that he spoke. He was an idiot for allowing her to leave, for not fighting for the relationship that he loved. Even until this very day, allowing Jules to walk out of his life was the one thing he regretted most. He shouldâve fought for her harder.Â
âMe? No, not yet. Not since ââ Not since you. Dion instantly stopped himself mid sentence, his throat clearly quickly before correctingâ âI mean, Iâve tried dating, donât get me wrong, but .. nothing ever really seems to stick.â
The embarrassment that replace the warmth couldnât be helped and certainly could not be hidden from Dionâs prying eyes. Sometimes it felt like Jules was the third wheel to Liamâs relationship with his phone and his goddamn job. It was rare that they ever made it through a night without him having to step out and take a call. âHeâs the president of his fatherâs firm,â she all but blurted out in some version of defense for the man she was going to marry. Marriage; the idea continued to twist at her queasy stomach as she forced her azure hues up to meet his. He was so honest, so Dion, that she could feel herself being drawn to him just like she always was. Just like I was an idiot for leaving you behind. âMhhm... no one can keep a bed warm like little olâ me,â she muttered with a hint of sarcasm towards the empty glass before pushing it forward as a silent request for a refill. Truth was, that was where Jules guessed her worth was in relationships - keeping a bed warm and being the conduit for release and relief for a manâs stressful day.Â
âYeah... I get that.â And just as soon as the heat passed from her cheeks, it returned yet again. There was silent understanding that flitted past her eyes as she held his gaze. For five years, Jules compared everyone to Dion; hell, she still did. You never get over your first love, played over and over in her head just as the bell above the entrance signaled Liamâs return to the conversation. âBabe, Iâm so sorry - I have to catch a red eye back to the City; have some fires I need to put out. Come on, Iâll drop you off at your parentsâ place.â And instead of balking at Liam, Jules just gave Dion a knowing look before turning to face her fiance with forced reassurance. âOf course, you go. Iâll just grab an Uber.â And with a swift kiss atop her head and an empty âIâll make it up to you!â, Liam was out the door.Â
âCan you make it a double this time?â she nodded towards her glass.
MARISSA:
open to all !
Sheâs standing before them, tears glistening from the rims of her eyes and shock highlighting her features. Three years. It had been three long years since the brunette left her hometown behind without the slightest word to anyone. One minute she had been there then the next she was gone.  A ghost. There was no goodbyes, no hints about where she was heading to. And now? Marissa was face to face with someone with her past without the slightest idea of how she could begin to explain herself. âI âŠâ she begins, but canât seem to form the words that she so desperately wants to speak. âYou must hate me.â
And that hate was clear on the womanâs face, which puckered up like she just sucked on a lemon before she turned on a toe and acted as if the small brunette didnât exist. Rhys couldnât help the clicks of his tongue against his teeth in acknowledgement of the cringefest that unfolded only moments prior. âBloody pathetic showing,â he uttered to the perfect stranger, his gaze at half-mast as it traveled her way. âNot tryna be funny, but the whole sniffly, kicked puppy dog look isnât doinâ anything for ya, Love.âÂ
DION:
âYeah, itâs my signature look,â he responded back almost nonchalantly as he took a step away to prepare her drink. Standing before her once again was gnawing at his nerves, but he tried so hard to fight it back â wanting to appear almost âŠchill. As if the sight of her didnât have the sound of his own beating in his ears. Dion tossed her the smallest of forced grins when he returned back with her drink, sliding it towards her slowly. Probably a little too slow, but it couldnât be helped. The only thing Dion seemed to be able to do was just stare at her, taking everything about her in. Even with all the time that had gone by, she still looked the same as ever and he didnât know how to feel about it.Â
âMy whole life. I, uh .. I never left. Couldnât with everything that was going on.â But as to what, that wasnât something he wanted to get into. The problems at home, his mother, were hardly the conversation that he wanted to bring up upon their reunion â or ever, to be honest. â⊠Iâm assuming thatâs your boyfriend, right?â The word, despite how much he wanted to hold it, came off almost as bitter as he had felt. âHeâs a lucky guy.â
Dionâs gaze brought warmth along the path it traced, and Jules couldnât help but divert her own as she tucked her blonde locks behind one red-tinged ear. After all these years, he still had a knack for making her feel stripped bare without even saying anything. An audible hum left her throat in acknowledgement of his words as she swiftly brought the glass to her lips for a long swig of the amber liquid. In the years since high school, Jules wasnât much of a drinker, but sobriety didnât really feel like much of an option in her current company. Her tongue drifted over her lower lip before her teeth found it, forcing herself to set the glass back on the bar and not drain the thing in one fell swoop.Â
She wanted to ask what happened, what was the everything that kept him from leaving like they had always talked about? But his swift topic change to Liam easily snuffed the opportunity out. A lucky guy? Someone should tell him that, she thought to herself, none of her words meeting her lips. âFiancĂ© actually, which is... why Iâm back. Said he wanted to see where I was from, meet who I was from since I never talk about them... so you know. Weâll see if heâs still my fiancĂ© at the end of the week after that shitshow,â she yammered on nervously, hand fluttering in the air before she paused with wide eyes and quickly slammed what was left in her glass. âIâm sorry, this is weird, Iâm talking too much,â Jules sputtered, head turning over one shoulder in hopes that Liam would swoop in and at least dampen this reunion, but no dice - the asshole was nowhere in eyesight. âSo, what about you? Make an honest woman out of anyone yet?âÂ
DION:
Once the order was given, Dion wasted no time in dropping his hands from the counter and getting the drink together. His eyes seeming to go everywhere but to her eyes. Julia. That rock on her finger had gone unnoticed before was now the one thing he couldnât seem to drag his eyes away from whenever they did wander in her direction. Hearing his name, the male couldnât help but to give the smallest of smirks before giving the blonde his undivided attention.Â
âJules,â Dion responded back, sliding the glass of liquor towards the empty bar stool â waiting on the maleâs arrival. âFive years and you still look like a day hasnât gone by.â A compliment it couldâve been, but there was a bitterness in the sound of his voice. One that he hadnât even expected to be there, but couldnât seem to help himself. Five years. The time kept replaying in his mind and the more he thought about it, the moreâ how could he describe it? It wasnât anger. Far from it, but there was the slightest bit of resentment for the way things had left off. There had been no explanation and then Julia just fell off the earth. Practically becoming a ghost. âWhat are you having?â
When he spoke her name it was as if all the air in the room had been sucked out; never did she think sheâd hear that voice - which had grown even deeper with age but still so Dion - speak her name again, at least not without some anger fueling it. âI can say the same for you; still havenât cut that hair.â She allowed a smirk to flit across her features as she stifled the almost automatic urge to run her fingers through it, give him grief about how she couldnât see her favorite hazel eyes behind all of it. But this wasnât 2014, and she wasnât the same Jules that he loved, despite how she may or may not appear sitting before him. She was older, more cynical, and quite honestly... tired. âBourbon neat. Thanks,â she offered, moving her hands out of eyesight and nervously picking at the side of her thumbnail.Â
âYou been around town long?â Jules inquired in an attempt to satisfy her curiosity. She never expected that he would still be hanging around their hometown, the realization that she was completely void of any information regarding 5 years of his life hitting her hard - a sick, guilty feeling gripping her stomach like a fist. âI wasnât... expecting to see you. I would have, you know, figured out a much less intrusive way to pop back into your life instead of waltzing into your bar with...â she waved back toward the door, in the direction of her fiance. âWell, you know.âÂ
DION:
Five years. Five long years. Thatâs how long it had been itâd been since Dion had last seen or even heard from her and yet, here she was. Just as beautiful as ever and he just canât seem to pry his eyes away â or stop that grin from slowly stretching upon his features. Well, until the moment he came strolling in behind her. From the way the maleâs arms seemed to wrap around the blondeâs shoulders and how she seemed to just fall into his hold, there was no denying it. It had to be a boyfriend. Of course it was. Who was Dion to assume anything otherwise? Just as he said, she was beautiful and could practically have whoever she seemed to want. The sound of a chuckle slipped from his lips as he approached to the two, both palms dropping on top of the barâs counter. âCan I get you anything?â Dion questioned as those hues simply remained rested on her. Did she remember him? Should he have greeted her first? / / @emmrps
There was virtually nothing about being back in her hometown that made Jules feel at ease. After all, it had been five years since she turned her back on it, turned her back on most of the people in it. If it wasnât for the upcoming nuptials, she was almost positive she would have never made her return. The wedding; the closer it got, the heavier it weighed on her. And speaking of weight, the massive rock that wrapped snugly around her ring finger suddenly felt as heavy as a lead brick when her olive hues landed on him. Her eyes, wide in surprise as her voice was caught somewhere in her throat, her hands pulling swiftly upward to uncomfortably loosen Liamâs latch around her shoulders. âJameson on the rocks,â he ordered over her shoulder, before the tone of his phone started ringing as incessantly as it always did. âI have to take this; Iâll be quick, promise,â he whispered before making his way out of the bar.Â
Swallowing hard, Jules allowed her gaze to meet Dionâs, a sheepish smile appearing over her lips. âDion,â she uttered finally, her stomach swirling with a mixture of good and terrible feelings that she couldnât wait to drown with liquor. âItâs been a long time.âÂ

The sweat dripping from his forehead wouldâve been deemed gross if it had been anyone else, but somehow, for some reason, Grey had never looked more appealing then he did right now â sweat and all. The brunette caught herself staring as he downed the contents of his water bottle but as soon as the greeting mixed with a compliment was uttered from his lips she felt her stomach tighten and something resembling birds trying to fly their way out. They couldnât possibly be the familiar butterflies she felt around Zac, this was Greyson after all. âPlease, just take it. I feel really bad and Iâd feel even worse if you didnât accept it. I think youâll really like it.â
The grin that always seemed to plant itself on Greyâs lips in Izzyâs presence just really couldnât be helped - she was too gorgeous and he had accepted the fact that he was doomed. âWell, luckily for you, I only turn gifts and apologies down once,â he laughed, pulling the box onto his lap and popping it open to reveal the brand spankinâ new version of his favorite shoes he had since retired after the Upchuck Incident of 2019. âOh hell yeah. Now I can wear these for the next six years. Thanks, babe, ya shouldnât have,â Grey smirked, leaning way over to plant a quick peck on the apple of her cheek, before slapping the tops of his legs. âYou hungry? I gotta get you outta here before the other roosters start crowing.â

Although his vision was slightly blurred he could see exactly how pissed off Taylor was the second she grabbed him by the shirt and pushed him aside. âBaby,â the boy breathed out, trying to keep himself from chuckling loudly. âYou look so beautiful when youâre angry,â his words slurred as he brought the bottle closer and took a long sip before holding it out for her. âHave a drink with me, letâs talk, please. I canât take you ignoring me like this anymore.â He reached out for her hand in an attempt to hold it in his, hoping that she didnât pull away â even though the anger was practically spewing from her pores at this point. âI just want you to forgive me for being a fucking idiot, baby.â
The term of endearment that slurred out of Isaacâs lips caused a queasy feeling to grip at Taylorâs stomach. For so long, she wanted to be that - his baby. For a long time, she thought she was that. God, was she wrong. âStop,â she asserted, pulling her hand out of his grasp. âDonât touch me. You make me sick,â Taylor breathed, her deep hues seeking solace behind her heavy lids as she held in every tear that wanted to fall from them; her hands tucked securely behind each elbow as her arms crossed over her chest as a shield to block herself from having the ability to reach out and melt in his arms. âPour it out,â she nodded to the bottle in his hands before crossing the yard to the shed that sat untouched for years, pulling a string to illuminate its dusty innards. âIf you want to talk, then talk.â
sweetestdcvotionâ:
Downing half of his fatherâs favorite tequila didnât seem to make anything much better, it was still Friday night and Isaac still felt like shit. His phone had been blowing up all day in indication that there were plenty of parties going on tonight, not that he cared, he wasnât going. Holding the half-empty bottle in one hand he reached down and grabbed a few small rocks, launching them towards the familiar window in hopes that it would make enough noise â and that Taylor was home. When the first few didnât seem to earn a reaction he gathered some more, this time he swung them harder. âTaylor!â he screamed out, not exactly caring who heard but he needed her to come out. âTaylor just come out please, Iâm sorry Iâm a fucking asshole. Please!â
The texts, the phone calls, the urging through her friends to please call him back - none of it was good enough. The thought of hearing his voice, hearing him call her babe and all the empty promises and words and bullshit that seemed to spew out of his mouth so easily; it all just made her sick to her stomach. It was like a sick joke when she heard the first and second pebbles hit her bedroom window, his loud voice jolting her straight out of bed and downstairs in fear that it would wake her inebriated father from his boozy slumber. âWhat the fuck are you doing?!â she whispered, wild-eyed as she grabbed his shirt and pushed him toward the side of the house. âAre you trying to lose teeth today? Because Iâm not.â If Isaac wasnât as shitfaced as he clearly looked and smelled, he would know just how much trouble Taylor would be in if her dad did wake up. And it would be a lot more than just a chiding or a slap on the wrist. âWhat - did you just crawl out of a whiskey barrel? You look like shit, Isaac.â
sweetestdcvotionâ:
âHey,â Isabelle awkwardly waved as she spotted Grey occupying one of the park benches. With Rileyâs help, she knew exactly where to find him at this time. âSo glad I caught you,â she spoke softly, swiftly occupying the empty space beside him. Izzy couldnât fully meet his gaze, God she was so embarrassed, their last interaction had consisted of not only being sick all over his shoes but the burden of also having to take her home. It was completely out of character for Isabelle Jacobs to behave in such a way. âI wanted to apologize about the other day,â she sighed, placing a box in front of him. It was neatly wrapped and a big red bow adorned the top. âItâs just a small gift to say thank you â and sorry,â she assured, hoping the shoes she had picked out were to his liking.Â
The party at Zacâs was quite the whirlwind indeed, from a split second difference between almost being kissed by Isabelle Jacobs and being upchucked on by Isabelle Jacobs... to Taylor and Isaac and Zac and Veeâs total fucking meltdowns. Needless to say, the group dynamic was a bit strange - perhaps nonexistent would be the better term - since it seemed like everyone except Grey and Riley had tension with someone else. So when Izzy appeared on the bench beside him as he poured sweat from the last hour of skateboarding, sure he was surprised... but he was also admittedly quite pleased. âHey, beautiful,â he greeted, unscrewing his water bottle before downing nearly half, his eyes squinting in the sunshine as sweat prickled at the corners. âWhat?â He was just as perplexed by her words as he was by the box that now sat in front of him. âIzzy, weâre good. No need for an apology or a gift, okay?âÂ
@sweetestdcvotion
From the moment she found out she was with child, it was as if life came to a swift halt for the girl who was born with a golden spoon in her mouth, big plans to carry out, and an entire world that seemed hers for the taking. Anxieties manifested into blank stares and faraway thoughts, all hidden behind the usual sweet smile that she had been trained to hold steady - it was the Yates way. Things didnât bother Dani Yates, at least not as far as anyone else was privy to. Taught from a young age to keep things buried deep inside, never allowed to show emotion or throw a tantrum, she had been conditioned to suffer in silence, to never let herself be vulnerable with anyone who could bring shame upon her family. And even now as another being poked and kicked her from the inside, as she lay in bed with a man who tried despite not wanting this just as much as she, Dani still felt utterly alone.
With palms smoothing over her stomach, she kept her gaze planted on the opposite wall. âI spoke to an adoption agency last week,â she deadpanned, a tear pricking the corner of one eye. âI canât do this alone, Isaac.âÂ
