Steven Universe: Eh, I don't really feel like saying "girlfriend" or "wife". Maybe they're together. They have a special connection...
(gets violently shoved aside)
The Loud House/Craig of the Creek/The Owl House: Pfft, amateur. "My GIRLFRIEND Sam and I..." "I'm texting my GIRLFRIEND, mind your business." "Luz's new GF showed her..."
Can we not do this thing? Do you realize that Rebecca had to fight for what we got with Rupphire and literally risked her job? and Pearl and Rose. Like, there is no need to knock other shows down because of Lumity.
These kids today, I tell you what. In my day you had to bury your girlfriends under subtext and then end the series when the truth was revealed.
Risked her job, hell, it's an open secret now that the Rupphire wedding (which, may I remind folks, was the first queer wedding in a kids' cartoon, which is a BIG DEAL) is why everything about the rest of the series felt rushed. They had to scramble to tell the rest of the story because they took a gamble and the network retaliated by shortening their production time.
Rebecca Sugar and the crewniverse risked the entire show getting flat-out cancelled in order to show that wedding, only for people to say it "wasn't progressive enough" and was "giving in to stereotypes" to put Ruby in a wedding dress. Never mind that Ruby kept getting dubbed over as a guy in localization, Sapphire was unmistakably feminine in every version, and putting Ruby in the dress was a flagrant way to say, "fuck you, you can't pretend this is a straight couple; this is a queer couple and a queer wedding."
Dana Terrace has said that The Owl House only exists with its intended queerness because of what Rebecca Sugar and her team accomplished with Steven Universe. Hell, there are multiple members of the Steven Universe team who went on to work on the other shows mentioned in the OP--Steven Sugar, for example, who is Rebecca Sugar's brother and inspiration for SU in the first place (as well a background artist on the show), is currently an artist on The Owl House. There are people who got their start on Steven Universe who now only have the opportunity to tell more queer stories because of Steven Universe's success.
I'm not even 30 years old yet and I'm still old enough to remember when being gay was fully illegal in the United States. Not gay marriage, but literally just BEING GAY. It wasn't that long ago, and the fact that today in 2021 I can turn on the TV and watch gay cartoons intended for children? I never thought I'd see it. Fucking ever.
So let's stop pitting queer creators and media against each other, shall we?
idk guys it seems pretty subtle
The fucking absurdity of going "ooo steven universe never said they were wivessss" when they HAD A FUCKING ONSCREEN WEDDING MY GOD
Like you're literally gal pal-ing them. That's literally what you're doing lmaoooo

hey want to see something gorgeous but viscerally discomfiting?
okey doke!
The Mauritius “underwater waterfall” is not a true waterfall but a naturally occurring optical! In the sense that that’s not water falling, it’s sand and silt shifting! Shifting down a 4000-meter-deep abyssal drop. It is in fact exactly as deep as it looks, sorry :)
Other fun facts about Mauritius include:
that’s where Dodo birds were from!
the entire island has an abnormally strong gravitational pull!
(on account of it sits on top of a lost supercontinent or whatever that redistributes the Earth’s gravity or something idk. lost continents are so full of themselves)
Korra and Asami only held hands because Nickelodeon wouldn’t let them do more. Nick infamously cancelled Korra and put out the rest of season 4 as a webseries only.
Marceline and Princess Bubblegum only kiss in the very final episode because Cartoon Network wouldn’t let them do more. There are a ton of interviews with Pendelton and with the voice actresses where they talk about the CN censorship.
Steven Universe got as far as it did because Rebecca Sugar fought tooth and nail, and risked the show getting cancelled (which it did in many countries, if not heavily censored), because Cartoon Network wouldn’t let her. Ruby was often dubbed over with a male voice, and Pearl/Rose interactions were completely cut.
She-Ra managed to do it largely because it was specifically on Netflix only, and even then, Noelle has said they had to build 4 seasons of storyline very subtly around it so they had enough ammo to convince the execs that Catradora was the only logical conclusion to this show they had already aired. She didn’t just go in on Day 1 and make it gay; she had to plan many years in advance for how to set up her argument. Her argument, y’all.
And now we have The Owl House. Which is an absolutely wonderful show. And it’s so amazing that we actually get to see queer characters get the kind of representation that so many straight characters get. And it’s amazing we get to see the romance build up, instead of just a quick peck in the series finale!
Let’s not forget that in the US, it was illegal for gay people to get married until 2015. Korra aired in 2012. In Texas, it was a punishable felony to even be gay until the mid-90s. No, literally. Just being gay was an arrestable offense here in Texas until 1993. We have come a really long way in 20 years!
But don’t fucking dare disrespect any of these other shows by saying they didn’t try, or that their representation didn’t matter. The Owl House is standing on the shoulders of giants. Lumity is only where it is because Korrasami and Bubbline helped get them there.
I’m seeing a lot of posts/takes that start out “I simply can’t feel sorry for ScarJo…” and I’m just. like. who’s asking you to feel sorry for her? who’s asking for sympathy? nobody’s asking you to open your hearts, let alone your wallets. you don’t have to feel anything positive for her at all. legal right doesn’t require sympathy.
the question at hand is not “is scarjo a poor pitiable victim,” the question is “does Disney, as a corporate entity, have an obligation to fulfill its contracts, carry out its obligations, and keep its promises” and, yes? the answer is absolutely yes? your feelings on scarjo as a person should have absolutely zero bearing on the answer to this question
if anything it’s Disney who’s asking for pity, for sympathy, to be let off from having to do things it doesn’t want to do because its life is just so haaaaaard right now with the pandemic, and you know what? I simply can’t feel sorry for disney.
I’ve been struggling for how to put this into words, but: I think demand for the rights of rich workers to be protected is the only thing that actually ‘trickles down’.
As others have noted: if Disney can get away with violating ScarJo’s contract, it becomes that much easier for them to violate the contracts of everyone less powerful than her.
If we allow the narrative around Simone Biles to be that she is spoiled, selfish, and entitled to pull out of the Olympics to look after her mental health, the chances of any other professional or non-professional athletes being able to do similar self-care decreases dramatically.
And make no mistake: those in power are very much aware of this dynamic, which is why these narratives are being spread in the first place.
Post canon Toph who doesn’t want to go back to her shitty parents so she just decides to stay in the Fire Nation and bum off Zuko’s hospitality.
Zuko’s like no, yeah, I totally get it, and just makes her one of his advisors. At first it’s just so she has a good excuse to stay but after the first meeting Toph storms out shouting about how EVERYONE was lying why would you even need to lie about what kind of tea you want??
Zuko: I mean they’re politicians.....but also who, and when, and in what way
They make a subtle Morse code system so Toph can warn him when someone is lying to him without tipping anyone off that she can sense lies.
Zuko gets a reputation for somehow being both extremely socially inept and yet somehow disgustingly perceptive?? You can’t get ANYTHING by him???
#my lord what EXACTLY is ms Beifongs role in these meetings #a nervous nobleman asks after the third time she interrupts them with stupid commentary #zuko with perfect deadpan: she’s my scribe
You CAN’T leave that in the tags
y’all the avatar guy won a gold medal for windsurfing
THAT is perfect
I had this weird ass dream last night. I was in my teens and my mom hit this woman with her car. The lady ended up dying and I put her in the trunk of the car. We dismembered her and I was tasked with disposing her body parts.
Well, I was pissed for some reason and decided to just toss some of her body parts off the cliff, into the ocean. Into the part where it was normally shark infested. This other woman just so happened to walk by and witnessed me tossing the hand into the ocean. We made eye contact and I bolted straight towards her. Tackling her down, I dragged her over to the edge of the cliff and threw her down. She screamed all the way down until she hit the water. I sat near the edge, peering down at the water. Her head emerged out of the water. She screamed and I watch as she went under again, watching as the blue of the water slowly becomes red. She emerged once more, screamed and was dragged back down by, what I assume, was a shark.
Minutes pass by and I watched as the red in the water slowly disappear. More time passes and I hear footsteps behind me. I slowly get up and walked away from the edge, coming face to face with a man who is about a foot taller than me. He says something, but I’m not paying enough attention and looked at him confused. He sighs, “Did you see my wife? She normally likes to walk this route on her way home.” He describes the woman that I had thrown to over the cliff. I shake my slowly and said smiling, “I just got here a few minutes ago, but I didn’t see anyone here.” He thanks me and keeps walking in the same direction he was originally going.
My smile slips off my face and I’m suddenly facing myself. I look at what I thought was my face, only it wasn’t. His eyes were cold, his face emotionless. Then it hit me, “He.” My mind begins to race, ‘who is this guy,’ ‘what does he want from me.’ I try to say something but nothing comes out. The unknown man smirked and said, “I will see you later. Love you.”
I woke up in a cold sweat, my heart beating against my chest. Once, I caught my breath I tried my best to remember my dream. I remembered most of the details, but I just can’t remember the mans face.
Wanted to share this sunset I witnessed the other day.
stopppp everyone absolutely needs to see this
So my dad was the assistant music editor on Tarzan, and idk if it was Bring Your Kid to Work Day or something but one day he did just that so there I was, this incredibly small 1st grader, in an absolutely cavernous recording studio with a full orchestra and a giant screen playing the scene they were taping the score for, and my little brain couldn't handle the big music and the big movie happening all at once so I started crying and it was the first time music ever brought me to tears and it was too much to take in so we stepped out of the studio and ran directly into Phil Collins, who looked to me very much like my dad, and in my delicate emotional state I became immediately convinced that my dad had been copied and nobody had told me so I started crying harder, and Phil Collins said something that was probably meant to be calming but it was with a British accent so I thought there was a copy of my dad in every country and I absolutely lost it at the notion that other kids would get to have my dad, and my dad ended up having to carry me back to the car.
So.
Sorry for crying very loudly at you Phil Collins, your work on Tarzan was so moving it triggered my first emotional breakdown.
the only thing that could top that clip is that story
Show me the polling that says people want these Republican attacks on liberty.

A photoset of several tweets. The conversation begins with a tweet from matt @Lubchanksy that reads: the US is obviously hurtling into a serious "gender critical" movement and frankly i have no idea how we're supposed to combat it given that almost nobody who isn't trans seems to give a shit or notice Death and the Emperor @OrionDBlack responds: Aight imma spit real quick and hope that my FBI agent doesn't turn my phone off. /j Let's talk real quick. I kinda miss the slogan "all power to all the people". Because "all the people" means EVERYONE. It's inclusive. It implies that the work of deconstructing our isms is how we empower ourselves and are able to then collect under mutual interest. All power to all the people yall. During that time, and the time that followed, the government dedicated themselves to wedging as much bullshit between our groups as possible. Crack. AIDS. Model minorities. Super predators. It just goes on and on. It's just straight facts that our government is experienced in disrupting and assaulting leftist movements. All of it is on public record. Our own country is included in the collective that have been broken down and "readjusted" for the benefit of white supremacy and capitalism. The good thing is that we know we're getting closer, cuz they're scared. The bad thing is that we lose lives and are pushed a few steps back. Trans people are more of a target now than we were before, and it was already bad. Disabled people. PoC. The intersections therein. Every time class consciousness gets a little bit closer to being realized, shit like this comes out in full force. We see BLM being branded as ultra violent. We see gender critical movements get a massive flux of support. We see how disabled people are basically being euthanized. There was a moment in Black History around the Civil Rights movement where there was a currently-unimaginable amount of coalition building. It is truly amazing to me that a letter from the Panthers talking about queer rights was signed by Mexican, Chinese, Black etc activists. Anyway. Just do what you can. Just surviving in a revolutionary act. If you can do more, do so. We'll figure this shit out somehow.
Dont @ me but if ur a white content creator u should probably examine your brown characters (especially the darker skinned ones) and see if u aren’t following a certain trend of making them all aggressive, violent, surly or otherwise outwardly angry
white content creators: this was not an opportunity for you to prove how totally woke you are just reblog and go
full offense but if you saw this post or similar ones and immediately thought “let me prove I’m not racist”
then you have severely misunderstood the point and no one cares about your oc of color
Props for having them, POC characters can be fantastic. But! But the point is this is not about you. Say you understand, spread the knowledge, and be content in not putting yourself or your creations in the spotlight. Be glad that you’re trying to good by a community without taking attention or voice away from where it needs to be.
