i don’t care what y’all say. you can say spock didn’t have chemistry with other people he’s been with because y’all only want him with one person, but you cannot say spock didn’t have chemistry with la’an. on top of them having chemistry since s1, which i spoke about in another post, THAT scene was so well done from the directing/filming, spock and la’an wearing black clothes as they did their routine dance practice added to the sensual nature of the scene, except their usual dance was different this time, the acting and chemistry by ethan and christina. you could literally feel the sexual tension rising as that scene went on. it was not misplaced or forced or added in unnecessarily at the end of this mostly unserious episode. it was not one of those cases that y’all say spock is being forced into a romance. it just wasn’t.
Preach!
Feeling chemistry is always subjective to some degree, but claiming they had no chemistry at all is ridiculous and obviously based strongly on shipper bias and hypocrisy.
The scene was pure chemistry, full of sensuality, intimacy and erotism, from the setting and their outfits (still wonder if it was Spock who requested "appropriate attire" for dancing Tango or if La'an just went all in on her own by chosing THAT dress), the romantic music, the sensual dance moves and touches, the breathlessness in La'an's voice and the depths in Spock's, the eye contact and then that super tender kiss!
Like I could write whole essays just about the chemistry in that scene!
But it's the same with Spock touching hands. They complain about Spock being too touchy but cheered "oh my god, so much chemistry! They Vulcan kissed and are already in love!" about the 5 seconds handshake between Spock and Kirk. So I'm not surprised they deny the chemistry between La'an and Spock.
As for Spock and La'an feeling forced... isn't every interaction basically forced, because they're written by writers and written with narrative and character development intent? The interactions between other characters are just as forced. Spock and Kirk interacting is definitely forced (and blunt fanservice) because there's no reason for them to even know each other at this point in time, so forced!!!!
But like I said before, I don't feel it's forced given the glimpses we got before hinting at their attraction and the huge amount of parallels between them which felt like they build up to this, they just didn't dangle them in front of our faces like shiny car keys like other pairings.
I'm also baffled at the comments about La'an's shifting personality and people call her out of character, which is especially funny coming from people who cheered for her to fall for a Kirk she knew less than a day (which I thought was out of character, at least if you interpret it as true love and not a fleeting crush or experiment in romance).
La'an said it herself, she basically lived in the constant wait and fear for the Gorn coming back, but now that they're gone because La'an defeated them, with this huge weight having fallen of her shoulders, she's allowed to losen up and live those experiences she's denied herself before. I actually find it amazing and right that she's having these new experiences with Spock, not just because they build so much trust working together, mind melding and with Spock having stolen the Enterprise for her that it makes sense for her to be comfortable like this with him, but also because he's doing exactly the same. They're both learning to explore their own humanity and they're doing it with the one person who can absolutely relate to where they're coming from. It's beautiful and makes so much sense. But people are mad La'an is smiling and expressing her feelings now in a positive way and I'm like OMG! SHE'S BEEN THREW ENOUGH! LET HER BE HAPPY! LET MY GIRL LIVE A LITTLE!
Also peopole saying Spock is sleeping his way through the entire crew because he's involved with... checks notes.... 2 crew members (from over 200!). Seriously???
The only complaint I've seen that I kind of agree with is the pacing, that it feels a bit rushed. Not really complaining myself, but I didn’t expect them to kiss this early and expected a bit more of a slow-burn after the hints in the 2nd episode (though they can still take their time now), but I'm not really surprised because objectively the writers just don’t have the best track record writing romance on the show. They put the development of Pike and Batel from just a casual fling to her being his big love off-screen and I personally didn't feel any mutual attraction between Spock and Chapel before their first kiss, so I can see where people are coming from here.
But I'm also suspecting they're "rushing" on purpose for what's to come later in the season. We know there'll be a shift in the 2nd half of the season, much likely darker and more dramatic, and what happened to Spock during the mind meld with Batel will definitely come back to play a role, and I feel like that his relationship with La'an will become important while he struggles with whatever's going on with him.
I thought his wedding speech to Christine, talking about needing someone as an emotional anchor through emotional turmoil, felt very much like a foreshadowing reflection of what Spock needs himself and I think they're building his connection and feelings for La'an to become the calm eye and anchor in the storm of his emotions.
Sorry for rambling, just having a lot of thoughts and feelings.
Don’t apologize for the rambling! I appreciated all these thoughts and I entirely agree. I even initially thought the complaint about it being rushed was actually a fair grievance because I was surprised that it happened so soon, and it’s not soon because they’ve had chemistry since the beginning, but I suppose soon after they both sort of realized their own feelings to this extent. I thought there would be some more slow burn or even denial or hesitancy on both their parts, but I am merely conceding that point as valid and absolutely not complaining because I’ve been waiting for this to happen for a few seasons when I noticed that very unique, deep connection they had. And yes, I always saw people claiming that La’an is acting out of character for a romance or that Spock is sleeping with everyone and having too much romance. I suppose if you count T’Pring, this is his 3rd relationship, but Spock is young and attractive. He’s in his prime and figuring out romance and engaging with his emotions and humanity, so it’s understandable for him to be engaging in romantic relationships. As an actual Spock fan that doesn’t only ship him with one specific person, I’m enjoying seeing him in different relationships and this side of him, but the chemistry he has with La’an is the best of all, in my opinion. It just works so well.

Tell you the truth, the natural chemistry these two have had all along made me wonder whether the actors themselves were a couple since season 2.
That’s so messy. I like you!
How dare they look at each other like that! Look at all those little hearts flying around them 😊

star trek: strange new worlds — a space adventure hour
if i’m being honest, i noticed some chemistry and tension between spock and la’an way back in s1e4 when they went on that mini mission to stop the gorn and spock did a mind meld on la’an. there was something there even then and they continued to have great chemistry in subsequent encounters, so things ending up this way was not shocking for me. i would’ve thought it’d be dragged out a bit longer but seeing as i saw something back in s1, it’s been long enough for me.
this is just echoing what other spock/la’an shippers have said and goes to show that spock/la’an’s relationship was not rushed nor did it come out of nowhere because they had chemistry and tension since s1 so if anything, it has slowly developed properly over time. and also kind of cute that their first moment with the gorn and mind meld was in episode 4 of season 1 and they finally get together in episode 4 of season 3.
hater for hire. if you need someone to hate on anything i'm your guy. i'll hate on anything for next to no reason and i just do it for the love of the game. which i hate

I love how everyone is like "spocklaan romance is so forced" when the two of them have had more chemistry with each other even in their short interactions throughout the seasons than they've both had with anyone else (this might be down to Christina and Ethan having such incredible chemistry). But for real, if you guys think that spocklaan came out of nowhere, I suggest taking a look at @tinderbox210 profile because they have a whole list of their interactions. And I promise you, they interacted more than you think.
Also, are we forgetting that Spock litteraly stole a ship for her???
Lest we forget how La'am, who hates letting people close, let Spock (TRUSTED Spock) to basically root around in her deepest trauma in order to save their crew...and while doing this (in S1) she figured out about Michael Burnham, allowing she and Spock to know they each had something in common. An elder sibling who sacrificed themselves for La'an & for Spock.
Also, he deals with being pulled two directions because of his unique background (Vulcan/Human parentage) while she deals with her own genetic inheritance (descendant of Khan). She chose Starfleet after seeing what a person she looked up to was able to do in Starfleet and has found a home on the Enterprise, ditto for Spock. Both have learned to keep up a calm, collected facade to hide the depth of their feelings, and they share a similar sense of humour. Also worth considering: she had her whole time travel adventure she can't talk about, Spock has all the stuff with DISCO/Michael that he can't talk about, so they know the burden of secrets kept to protect your world.

I was looking for clues in all the wrong places. But now I understand the puzzle it built for me.
Can we also talk about how Spock and La'an openly discussed feeling a moment between them before she went into the holodeck program. How they felt about it and La'an actually being vulnerable and putting herself on the line like that, them admitting to wanting one another out loud?!
It wasn't rushed, no miscommunication of their desires (yet), just so good!
