I go to university in London and I’ve been to Covent Garden Market before. I 100% believe that the defence lawyers did all that they could to get the juries dismissed. Reddit is terrible rn and I would strongly suggest against reading posts about the verdict, but this comment sums up my thoughts pretty well:

“Hillary Dunning is the MVP of this trial.

Not only did she end up at the covent garden market for lunch three days into the trial, with dozens of other options within walking distance, but with 40 vendors in the market she just happened to end up in line directly behind a juror and talking about the trial when there were 9 female jurors on jury #1.

She then allegedly intimidated a juror i. Jury number 2 enough to send a note to the judge, getting the whole jury dismissed , again, and a judge only trial.

I hope Hilary buys some lotto tickets and her client tips her well.”

I don’t believe for a second that Dunning coincidentally ended up at the same food stall as the juror. Covent Garden Market is large and there’s SO many diverse options for restaurants. Not only did she manage to get in line behind the juror, but she also decided to speak to the juror about the trial.

I believe the lawyers knew that both juries would lean towards a guilty verdict and that a judge only trial would be their best chances at a non-guilty verdict. I believe Dunning took a calculated risk, knowing that both instances could easily be written off as the jurors being “too sensitive” or misinterpreting things. It clearly paid off.

I’m incredibly disappointed with the outcome and can’t help but wonder what it would’ve been like had it been a jury trial instead.
